I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality Chapter 955: Terrifying Fighting Strength
Previously on I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality...
As the elemental torrent dispersed, the shield Number One had raised dissipated along with it.
Jie Ming could clearly sense that there was nothing special about the shield Number One had raised. It was just a fairly basic energy shield.
In terms of elemental technique, forget comparing it with geniuses like him and Viola; practically any sixth-level wizard who spent much time on the battlefield was better than it.
Number One’s skill at manipulating the elements was probably only a little better than that of the sixth-level wizards in desk jobs.
But that was only to be expected. In all likelihood it had had very few chances to fight, and without practice, its technique was bound to be somewhat lacking.
Yet this technique, which looked almost crude in Jie Ming’s eyes, still produced an outrageous effect when paired with a plane wizard’s terrifying sheer size.
That shield just now alone had far greater defensive power than the Return to Ruins Armor Jie Ming had so painstakingly honed.
If one took the “yield” of the last-resort measures the Tower of Annihilation and the Chaos Secret Cult had used in the wizard war as an eighth-level wizard’s normal output, then that “ordinary” shield just now could have taken several such attacks head-on.
While Jie Ming was still thinking it over, the insect-man swarm on the other side had begun gathering its strength as well.
Dense masses of eighth-level insect-men surged out of the plane cluster. Yet although there were a great many eighth-level insect-men, their numbers were still manageable. Far more terrifying were the eighth-level creatures of other races pouring out in an endless stream.
Judging from the vacant look in these creatures’ eyes, they were obviously parasite beasts too, creatures that had been parasitized.
“Looks like the insect-men use their parasitized creatures differently from the Holy Spirit race.” Jie Ming shook his head to himself.
On the insect-man civilization’s side, eighth-level insect-men were far fewer than eighth-level Holy Spirits; there were probably only a few thousand of them in total.
But the number of these parasite beasts was extraordinarily inflated. At a rough glance, there might be close to a hundred thousand.
According to the information Jie Ming had gathered, the Holy Spirit race eventually broke down the creatures it parasitized and consumed them as resources.
But the insect-men… evidently did not consume the creatures they parasitized. Instead they kept them on as fighting strength.
This meant that, although the insect-man civilization controlled no small number of planes, the resources it could extract from them really were far fewer than the Holy Spirit race’s, so that its own race’s high-level strength really did fall well short of the Holy Spirit race’s.
Of course, given that it also had a super-parasite controlling a plane cluster as its top-end strength, the insect-man civilization’s strategy seemed understandable enough.
Just then, Jie Ming felt his scalp explode. A burst of terrifying power, the like of which he had never felt before, erupted with a roar!
Boom!!!
A beam of pure white light shot straight out of the magic circle released in front of Number One.
With a flash of that white light, every living thing within the target area was annihilated in the same instant.
With a single blow, the insect-man civilization’s entire eighth-level legion in this stretch of the void had been wiped clean!
The corner of Jie Ming’s mouth twitched. “That’s… an energy ray…”
He turned on reflex to look at Viola beside him, just as she turned to look at him. Their eyes met, and each saw undisguised shock in the other’s gaze.
The attack was certainly easy to identify. It was the most basic energy ray there was, the wizard equivalent of a basic attack.
And yet it had this much power…
In the distance, meanwhile, the enormous centipede made of more than eight thousand five hundred planes had fully awakened.
Faced with Number One’s attack, it had clearly been enraged.
Countless planes quaked at once, and dense masses of black jointed limbs began stretching out at high speed. The whole void twisted violently under its movements!
Faced with the parasite’s provocation, Number One’s aura kept rising too.
Under Jie Ming’s dumbfounded gaze, light of every color flashed across Number One’s “body” one after another.
It was not that he could not tell what Number One was doing. Quite the opposite: Jie Ming recognized it.
Body Enhancement, Perception Enhancement, Mental Activation, Elemental Adaptation, Elemental Resistance, False Life, Phantom Shield… it was basically all amplification spells of that sort.
For an ordinary wizard this was perfectly normal, but when the target of the amplification was a large plane, the sight was spectacular indeed.
As though sensing danger, the distant parasite writhed its body and charged straight at them.
Number One did not give an inch either. Having cast its last two amplification spells on itself, it charged forward as well.
Boom!!!
The aftershocks spilling from the two sides’ exchange of blows stirred up an elemental storm in the endless chaotic void. Several unparasitized planes that were too close were annihilated by the suddenly descending storm.
Wizard Fate did not appear to make any move, yet as the elemental storm neared Jie Ming and the others, it suddenly suffered a localized collapse inside, so that a gap like the eye of a storm opened up right where they stood.
Looking at the terrifying power outside, Jie Ming actually relaxed.
Not that he had any choice. With the destructive force of the aftershocks out there, even a graze would leave him gravely wounded.
So Jie Ming did not try to act tough. He would just cling obediently to the big shot Fate’s coattails.
On the other side, the battle between the two sides swiftly reached fever pitch.
In the void, a large plane was moving frantically.
The instant the two sides collided, hundreds of planes quaked at once.
Vast black jointed-limb structures whipped out of the world cluster, sweeping across the void like countless sky-propping pillars, every lash grinding the space along its path to fragments.
Number One, the plane wizard, met them head-on. The entire large plane burst into dazzling radiance, its thick world barrier shuddering again and again, and then beam after beam of white light gushed out from the depths of the world, blasting those gigantic black limbs back over and over.
Watching, Jie Ming could not stop marveling. Not a single blow from either side was one he could have withstood.
This… was a “plane wizard” in the truest sense.
Before long, however, Jie Ming noticed a problem as well.
Number One’s power was indeed astonishingly strong, but every time it attacked, an extremely obvious amount of power spilled over.
When it blasted out a torrent of energy, the enemy was badly hurt, to be sure, but the surrounding planes that had never been part of the fight were caught up in it too.
Some worlds a little closer to the battlefield could not withstand the aftershocks; their world barriers cracked outright, and great elemental tides leaked in through them.
And every so often, a plane would be blown to scraps by the aftershocks.
Starfall had obviously noticed this as well.
“Attack strength is as expected, and sustained output is far higher than that of wizards of the same level.” Starfall observed Number One’s movements while recording the data. “Law invocation efficiency is good, and it draws on the external elements quickly. But the problem is just as obvious…”
She paused, watching helplessly as Number One blasted out yet another white beam that spanned the void.
The beam punched straight through a great swathe of insect-man planes, smashing their outer regions to pieces along with them.
Starfall could not help shaking her head with a frown. “His control over his own power is too poor.”
Jie Ming nodded beside her.
He had seen the problem too.
Number One’s fighting strength was beyond doubt, but its way of fighting was far too crude, and in finesse it fell well short of wizards of the same level.
Still, that was understandable. It was a large plane itself, after all, so every attack it released carried terrifying sheer size.
For it, compressing its power precisely onto a single target was actually the hard part.
