Augusta informed Jie Ming of the successful conquest of the Holy Spirit race's plane cluster. While Augusta left to attend to family matters, Jie Ming was tasked with the tedious work of consolidating the newly acquired territories and resources. He began sorting through the spoils, focusing on the Holy Spirit's unique biological parasitism and mental resonance technologies. After several months, Jie Ming received a call from his Senior Sister Viola, who informed him that Wizard Starfall would be arriving soon to conduct a test.

That day, Jie Ming was in the Infernal Sulfur Plane, sorting through the various materials he had brought back from the Holy Spirit race’s world cluster.

After such a long stretch of rest, he had largely recovered the energy he had spent in ten years of slaughter against the Three Great Holy Spirit Sovereigns.

By now, the vast body of knowledge and the many special resources the Holy Spirit race had left behind had all been sorted by category and put into storage; all that remained was to find the time to study them slowly.

Just then, a Black Giant priest hurried into the laboratory.

“Master, word has come from the spatial passage. Lady Viola’s friend has arrived.”

Jie Ming looked up and casually closed the material in his hands.

“Starfall is here?”

Jie Ming did not think too much of the news.

He and Starfall could not be called especially close, but at least they knew each other, and they had worked together before.

Back then, Starfall had been able to obtain her Level-One Cultivation Protocol ahead of schedule, and the “spiritual qi” he provided had played no small part in that.

So as far as Jie Ming was concerned, this was nothing more than an ordinary meeting.

With that thought, Jie Ming got up and headed straight for the spatial passage.

But the moment he saw Starfall, the relaxed look on his face froze.

Outside the spatial passage, Starfall was standing there.

And beside her stood a man in a gray-white wizard’s robe.

He was probably an eighth-level wizard.

The reason Jie Ming could only say “probably” was that he could not sense the man’s aura at all.

The wizard stood three paces to Starfall’s side, wearing a drab, dusty old robe. His face was ordinary, and so was his build.

Had he been mixed into a crowd, Jie Ming would not even have given him a second look.

But when the man looked his way, Jie Ming went stiff for an instant.

The feeling was completely different from facing Savien, Bastian and Morna at the academic exchange conference back then.

What Savien and the other two had given him was a sense of unfathomable depth: he could easily feel the gap in strength between them.

What the man before him gave off was absolute stillness.

It was the blankness left behind when every fluctuation of law had been drawn in to its absolute limit, like a black hole existing in reality that simply was not exerting its gravity for the moment.

Jie Ming’s spiritual sense told him with perfect clarity that if this man made a move against him, he would never survive it!

Not even the two Substitute Death Dolls he still had on hand would make any difference!

“Jie Ming.” Starfall stepped forward and gave a slight nod by way of greeting. “Long time no see.”

“Long time no see.” Jie Ming drew his gaze back and exchanged a few pleasantries with Starfall.

After the two had chatted for a bit, Starfall stepped aside to bring forward the gray-robed wizard behind her.

“This wizard goes by the name ‘Fate’.” Starfall’s tone was flat. “The Star Ring Federation sent him specifically to protect me.”

“!!!”

Jie Ming’s pupils contracted.

Fate.

In the whole of wizard civilization, there seemed to be only one wizard who could be crowned with a title like that…

“That’s right.” Starfall nodded. “The wizard known as Fate is the very wizard who created a Fictional Law: the Fate Law.”

In that moment, Jie Ming finally understood the true weight of Starfall’s Level-One Cultivation Protocol.

The Fate Law itself had been created by the man standing before him.

He was nothing less than a legend among legends!

And a true wizard legend like this was now personally following Starfall around, purely to protect her whenever she traveled.

From what Jie Ming understood of the Fate Law, this Wizard Fate could get Starfall safely away even if he were facing a ninth-level being!

Jie Ming’s understanding of the Level-One Cultivation Protocol was overturned once again in that moment.

Before, he had only known that a recipient of the Level-One Cultivation Protocol could draw on nearly limitless resources.

Only now did he truly realize how much the Star Ring Federation valued the geniuses who could move the whole of wizard civilization forward!

“Wizard Jie Ming.”

It was Wizard Fate who spoke first in the face of Jie Ming’s astonishment. His voice was gentle and unhurried, nothing at all like the presence Jie Ming had imagined a legendary wizard should have:

“Starfall often mentions you. Your Spiritual Qi Law gave the living plane project a great deal of inspiration, and in a roundabout way it has helped Starfall quite a lot. A truly exceptional talent.”

“You flatter me.” Jie Ming bowed respectfully.

Wizard Fate seemed to see what Jie Ming was thinking, and smiled instead. “No need to be so tense. Starfall has told me a great deal about you. You’re one of the few in recent years willing to put real effort into researching the Fictional Laws, and you’ve already achieved quite good results. Given your age and how fast you’re growing, your future is well worth looking forward to.”

Inwardly, Jie Ming broke into a quiet sweat of embarrassment.

His Spiritual Qi Law had not been developed independently. It was built on techniques he had stripped out of the Great Dao Book Pavilion, which he had then localized to the wizard system until they finally took shape as the Spiritual Qi Law.

But to the outside world, he had always claimed that the Spiritual Qi Law was his own extension built on the foundation of the Fictional Laws.

That claim had spread widely through wizard civilization, and quite a few people even regarded it as one of the most important derivative achievements of the Fictional Law system in recent years.

That was probably why Wizard Fate thought well of him.

Of course, Jie Ming was certainly not going to say any of this out loud. All he could do was chuckle and accept the praise.

“Let’s go see Viola first.” Starfall clearly had no intention of continuing the pleasantries.

She had come here this time with a clear purpose in mind.

Naturally, Jie Ming had no objection.

The three of them soon passed through the spatial passage and arrived at Jack’s plane.

The spatial ripples had barely subsided when a figure was already coming to meet them.

“Starfall!” Viola had clearly been waiting for quite a while.

Seeing Starfall appear, she smiled noticeably more brightly than usual, and stepped straight up to hug her friend.

“You’re finally here.”

“I was held up a little on the way.”

Only after the two had let go did Viola notice Wizard Fate behind Starfall.

Her expression visibly stiffened for an instant, and then she looked to Jie Ming with a questioning glance.

Jie Ming gave her a slight nod, meaning “it’s exactly who you think it is.”

Viola took a deep breath, put away her usual loose, carefree manner, and bowed respectfully to Wizard Fate.

Wizard Fate waved a hand to show there was no need for such formality.

After they had all exchanged greetings, Viola eagerly pulled Starfall toward the passage exit. “Come on, come on, I’ll show you. Jie Ming, you come too. You’re definitely going to find this interesting.”

She raised her hand, and spatial laws rapidly converged ahead of her.

The void was torn open like a curtain ripped apart by an invisible force, splitting into a pitch-black spatial passage.

The other end of the passage did not lead to any fixed world, but to a stretch of endless, chaotic void.

With a single glance, Jie Ming found what seemed to be a plane cluster of considerable size over there.

The three of them immediately stepped through.

Countless worlds hung like giant lighthouses floating in a dark ocean, linked to one another by thick black structures shaped like jointed limbs.

And the very instant they arrived at its outer edge, the sounds of fierce fighting reached them.

In the void ahead, enormous plants were thrashing about wildly.

And what they were locked in slaughter with was a dense swarm of insect creatures.

The battle between the two sides had already been going on for a very long time.

Explosions went off one after another along the outskirts of the worlds. Space was shattered and then swiftly repaired, and great quantities of insect corpses and plant remains drifted through the void, forming a horrifying battlefield.

Jie Ming swept his gaze across the battlefield.

These insects…

“The insect-man civilization?”

Viola glanced back at him. “That’s right.”
