I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality Chapter 951: An Exhausting Battle
Previously on I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality...
In the blink of an eye, another ten years had passed.
In truth, the endless chaotic void had no concept of time, but Jie Ming had worked out the “time” from his own biological clock.
His battle with the Three Great Sovereigns had actually gone on for ten years.
Boom!
Jie Ming’s Dharma Form threw a punch that smashed squarely into the Dark Realm Monarch’s huge compound eye.
The immense force made the surrounding space collapse in an instant. The Dark Realm Monarch’s body was blasted millions of kilometers away, shattering an elemental storm that had only just gathered along the way.
Before Jie Ming could press after it, a thick blood-red tentacle was already lashing in from the side.
Jie Ming could not even be bothered to dodge. He simply raised a hand, caught it, and yanked it backward.
The Blood Tentacle Tyrant’s whole enormous body was dragged forward off balance, and Jie Ming used the momentum to swing his arm and hurl it viciously into the endless void.
The enormous body hung still in the distance for a moment, and then the Blood Tentacle Tyrant came flying back.
It gave Jie Ming a look, silently raised its tentacles, and charged again.
After fighting this long, it barely even had the strength left to curse.
Neither did Jie Ming.
Ten years ago, with four eighth-level creatures fighting here, both sides would have been straining every ounce of strength to find the other’s openings, and every single attack would have involved complex shifts of power and layer upon layer of tactical maneuvering.
But now…
Boom!
A punch from Jie Ming.
Boom!
A tentacle from the Blood Tentacle Tyrant.
Boom!
A mental blast from the Soul-Devouring Holy Sovereign.
Boom!
Jie Ming raised his foot and stamped down.
As for tactics… what tactics?
By this point, neither side could be bothered to use their brains at all. It was nothing more than a brawl of wild, flailing haymakers.
After all, they had been fighting for far too long.
So long that they knew each other’s way of fighting as well as it was possible to know anything.
Who was good at what, who habitually attacked how, who found it easier to strike from which angle, even each one’s subconscious reactions, had all been thoroughly figured out by the other side.
The original fervor had long since vanished, replaced by irritation.
As time went on, the irritation gave way to furious cursing at one another.
After that… even the cursing stopped. The two sides fought mechanically, with something of the half-hearted air of an old married couple going through the motions of a chore.
The Blood Tentacle Tyrant swung its tentacles. Jie Ming stood where he was and took the blow head-on, and the chest of his Dharma Form shuddered from the impact.
Jie Ming glanced down, casually caught hold of the tentacle, and the Dharma Form opened its mouth and bit down on it.
Crunch!
Huge fangs sank straight into its body, and a large chunk of the incredibly tough carapace was bitten clean off.
The Blood Tentacle Tyrant let out a cry of pain, tore the tentacle loose and fell back.
On the other side, the Dark Realm Monarch, which had only just repaired its compound eye, let out a mental roar and threw itself straight at Jie Ming.
Jie Ming likewise threw himself at it head-on.
Boom!!!
The two behemoths slammed together in the void, tearing and biting at each other all the while, like wild beasts.
Over ten years, this battle had gradually lost the splendor that a clash between eighth-level powerhouses was supposed to have.
Most of the time it was just you punch me, I bite you.
The only thing that had not changed was that the battle itself was still brutal.
Because every collision between eighth-level lifeforms was enough to destroy an ordinary plane.
So over these ten years, the patch of chaotic void where they fought had become a complete dead zone for life.
Not a single ordinary Holy Spirit dared come near.
Off to one side, the Soul-Devouring Holy Sovereign watched this scene and felt a dull ache in its own mental core, along with an inexplicable sense of danger.
Ten years.
It could no longer remember how many times it had actually hit Jie Ming, nor how many times Jie Ming had torn through its soul’s defenses.
In the beginning, every attack had been enough to inflict serious injury on the other, leaving Jie Ming dependent on the Ash Return to Origin Hand to keep recovering.
But by now, the situation had reversed.
Without anyone noticing, Jie Ming had stopped getting hurt much at all. It was the Three Great Sovereigns instead who had to rely on rotating, constantly letting one of them withdraw from the battlefield for a while to recover.
Through one life-and-death clash after another, Jie Ming’s body had kept adapting to the Three Great Sovereigns’ methods of attack. Even though most of those adaptive evolutions were undone again by the Ash Return to Origin Hand, his body still kept a little of each adaptive change even as it was restored.
But that did not mean Jie Ming wasn’t tired.
Power could be recovered, wounds could heal, and even spent mental energy could be restored.
Only the fatigue of the mind was not so easily cleared away.
Ten years of fighting had given Jie Ming a weariness he had not felt in a long time.
He had just punched the Soul-Devouring Holy Sovereign away when a familiar mental wave suddenly reached him, and Jie Ming paused slightly.
It was a message from Augusta!
In the void, Augusta’s figure appeared, holding aloft an enormous halo.
Jie Ming’s spirits lifted at once.
Augusta had not been idle during these ten years either.
After Jie Ming had used the mass self-destruction of the mushroom-men to destroy great swathes of planes, and then used Breathing Soil Creation to wipe out thousands of planes and a great many Holy Spirit Kings in one go, a huge number of worlds in the Holy Spirit race’s plane cluster had suddenly lost their original rulers.
With no Holy Spirit King stationed there to control the Plane Origin, and no sufficient high-level combat power to maintain order, the resisting forces of those planes had naturally plummeted.
Augusta had led the legions Jie Ming left behind in a steady advance, practically just pushing forward along a defensive line that already had gaps in it.
In a mere ten years, she had already devoured more than half of the Holy Spirit civilization’s once-vast plane cluster.
The Three Great Sovereigns sensed that something was wrong as well.
They turned their compound eyes, and immediately saw a figure bearing a halo more than ten thousand kilometers across rapidly approaching from the distant void.
When the Blood Tentacle Tyrant saw clearly who it was, it turned around almost by reflex:
“Retreat!”
After ten years of fighting, it knew all too well how much trouble Jie Ming was.
And now another wizard…
It didn’t want to fight anymore. It really, truly didn’t want to fight anymore!
The Dark Realm Monarch and the Soul-Devouring Holy Sovereign, however, did the exact opposite.
They saw the situation in front of them more clearly, and now that another enemy had appeared, far from shrinking back, they instantly fell into a frenzy.
“Kill!”
“Kill this human first, or none of us will get away!”
But their reaction came one step too late after all.
Jie Ming’s figure twisted faintly, and with the Great Void Step he appeared instantly in front of the Blood Tentacle Tyrant.
The Blood Tentacle Tyrant rammed into him, and Jie Ming could not even be bothered to dodge.
Boom!
He took it head-on.
Not a scratch.
The platinum flames swayed gently, and only the faintest ripple appeared on the surface of the Dharma Form.
“You…” The Blood Tentacle Tyrant’s voice held obvious fear.
In terms of damage output, Jie Ming was still not strong enough to kill the Three Great Sovereigns with ease.
But if all he had to do was defend and hold them down…
With no need at all to think about his own defense, Jie Ming could manage that task easily.
In the distance, space suddenly lit up with a dazzling silver light. Augusta had arrived.
She even raised both hands at once, and her power erupted with a roar.
Hum…
A vast field of electromagnetic force instantly covered the battlefield, and the Three Great Sovereigns all sensed the danger at the same moment.
“Scatter!” the Dark Realm Monarch roared.
But Jie Ming had already charged in a step ahead of them.
The colossal Dharma Form spread its arms wide, seized the many tentacles of the Blood Tentacle Tyrant and the Dark Realm Monarch, and held both of them back at once.
Then the Dharma Form, dragging the two tentacle monsters along with it, went to give the last one, the Soul-Devouring Holy Sovereign, a “hug”.
“Get off!”
The three Sovereigns struggled frantically, but their attacks only splashed uselessly against Jie Ming in sprays of light and flame.
“Augusta.”
“I know.”
The white halo behind Augusta erupted. It was hundreds of millions of tons of high-temperature plasma that she had kept charging and accelerating before she came, until it finally reached sub-light speed.
Boom!!!
Blinding white light swallowed the entire battlefield.
When the light faded, the Three Great Sovereigns’ bodies had become nothing but wreckage, leaving only their shattered Dharma Forms behind.
With that, all three of the Great Sovereigns had fallen.
Jie Ming stood there and was silent for a long time.
This battle, which had lasted a full ten years, was finally over.
He did not even feel any excitement in that first moment, only an overwhelming weariness.
“It’s finally over.” Jie Ming let out a long breath.
Augusta came to his side, and Jie Ming pulled himself together.
“How are things in the Holy Spirit plane cluster?” Jie Ming asked.
“The main resistance has been crushed,” Augusta said. “But there are too many planes. In a lot of places we could only get them under control for now, and they will need to be cleaned up bit by bit afterward. Fully digesting the whole plane cluster will probably still take a good deal of time.”
Jie Ming nodded. “Thanks. I owe a lot to your help this time. You have a share in this plane cluster.”
“You don’t need to give me much.” Augusta glanced at him. “Just make me a copy of the knowledge you obtained, and that’ll do.”
Jie Ming was slightly taken aback, then nodded.
In fact, he knew perfectly well that from the very beginning, the wizards who took part in this battle had tacitly regarded the Holy Spirit race as his “spoils of war”.
Otherwise, why would those wizards have set about researching the Holy Spirit body fragments the moment they got them, and so quickly cracked the underlying elemental structure of the Holy Spirit race?
Jie Ming said nothing more. He put away his Dharma Form and flew with Augusta toward the Holy Spirit race’s plane cluster.
The clean-up and the wrapping up still to come would take a good deal of time yet.
