I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality Chapter 949: Encirclement, and Turning the Tables
Previously on I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality...
A few months later.
The Holy Spirit plane cluster, a medium-sized plane.
Beneath a grey-black sky, Jie Ming’s Third Layer Dharma Form stood tall in the middle of the wasteland, its enormous body bathed in platinum flames, while the ground beneath its feet had long since been pounded to pieces by unceasing battle.
Countless Holy Spirits surged in from every direction, their dense legions all but filling the entire wasteland.
And at the very front of that mighty host, three especially formidable figures hovered in midair: the Dark Realm Monarch, the Soul-Devouring Holy Sovereign and the Blood Tentacle Tyrant.
Above the legions, meanwhile, more than ten thousand Holy Spirit Kings had gathered around the perimeter.
This terrifying host was like a tightening net, with Jie Ming caught inside it.
“Run! Why aren’t you running anymore?!”
The Blood Tentacle Tyrant let out a mental roar, its vast mental waves sending ripple after ripple even across the sky.
Its blood-red tentacles unfurled completely, like a blood-coloured cloud blotting out the sky.
Its compound eyes locked tightly onto Jie Ming, and its voice carried suppressed fury and relish: “Aren’t you so good at running? Didn’t you dare to barge into our plane cluster all alone? Today I’d like to see where else you can run to!”
The Dark Realm Monarch likewise gave a low laugh. “Invader from another world, your luck ends here. To catch you, we mobilised the strength of our entire race. In nearly a year, do you even know how many worlds you’ve destroyed, and how many of our kin you’ve killed? Today you will pay for all of it!”
The Soul-Devouring Holy Sovereign did not roar outright like the other two; it merely stared coldly at Jie Ming. “The plane you are trapped on has been completely sealed off by us. No support, no retreat, and your legions are down to this single remnant force before us. How long do you suppose you can hold out, sir?”
Having heard them out, Jie Ming merely tugged at the corner of his mouth.
“So that’s it. I was wondering why the forces hunting and blocking me had shifted so dramatically these past few days.”
His voice was not loud, but, carried by mental energy, it spread clearly across the whole battlefield.
Jie Ming swept a glance over the near-boundless Holy Spirit army around him, then looked at the Three Great Sovereigns.
“I never expected you to be so bold as to pull the entire main force away from the spatial passage just to trap me.” In a situation like this, if anything, Jie Ming’s smile grew more and more obvious.
Seeing his attitude, the smugness in the Blood Tentacle Tyrant’s eyes faltered slightly.
Jie Ming went on: “A fine plan. Unfortunately, you seem to have forgotten something.”
“Since you’ve moved your troops to ambush me, that means your defences on the other side are rather thin right now…”
Jie Ming raised one hand, platinum flames churning in his palm.
“So how can you be sure we won’t turn this plan of yours back on you?”
In an instant, the surrounding Holy Spirit Kings grew visibly restless.
The Blood Tentacle Tyrant narrowed its compound eyes, clearly understanding what Jie Ming meant.
“You… impossible!”
Jie Ming did not answer, only watched them quietly.
And at almost the very same moment, on Jack’s plane, before the spatial passage.
Augusta, standing at the centre of a huge array, suddenly looked up.
A faint smile appeared at the corners of her mouth:
“At last, the moment has come.”
As her words fell, she slowly spread her arms, and terrifying mental energy surged like a tide toward the spatial rift that the Holy Spirit race was forcibly holding down.
In fact, during that clash of mental energy a few months earlier, Jie Ming and Augusta had already left themselves a card to play.
Back then, when they had sent the mental energy crashing back along with the curses, it had looked like nothing more than a way to disgust the Holy Spirits. The real purpose was to use the chaos of the palace in uproar, with so many streams of mental energy colliding with each other, to quietly leave behind a few extremely faint wisps of mental energy.
Those wisps were extremely weak, and together with the wizards’ techniques of mental-energy control, that was enough to slip past the Holy Spirit Kings’ perception.
Of course, the price was that Jie Ming and the others could not get very precise intelligence; they could only vaguely sense changes on the other side.
Still, even an intelligence advantage of just this kind was enough.
And so, from the moment the Holy Spirits decided to abandon their original frontal position at the spatial passage and throw everything into encircling and annihilating Jie Ming, the other half of the war had already quietly begun.
It was only now that the Three Great Sovereigns understood this.
The Blood Tentacle Tyrant soon realised the problem too.
At first it was startled, but then it sneered. “So what if you know?”
It raised a blood-red tentacle, its tone regaining some of its smugness:
“You think that just to surround and kill you, we pulled everyone away from the spatial passage?”
“Quite the opposite. We left more than enough troops there. Their level may fall short, but their numbers are enough to hold down that spatial rift. Even if you know our plan, there’s no way you can break through from there!”
The smile at the corner of Jie Ming’s mouth did not change:
“Is that so? Then haven’t you noticed something very strange?”
The Blood Tentacle Tyrant froze. “What?”
Jie Ming did not look at it, but lowered his head and glanced at the legion beside him.
It was a dense mass of dragonblood mushroom-men.
They stood silently around Jie Ming, ready at any moment for the great battle to come.
Beyond that… there was nothing.
The Soul-Devouring Holy Sovereign stared at the legion by Jie Ming’s side for a few moments, and the mental energy spilling off it slowly sank.
“Your army… what’s going on?!”
The Dark Realm Monarch caught on at once too. “This isn’t what the intelligence said.”
The Soul-Devouring Holy Sovereign said in a deep voice, “Our intelligence was very clear. Your three main legions are fungal half-elemental creatures, dragon-like creatures, and that swarm of black elemental humanoids. But now…”
Its gaze swept around them.
Around Jie Ming there were only mushroom-men. Apart from them, neither Dragonmen nor Black Giants were anywhere to be seen.
The Soul-Devouring Holy Sovereign’s heart sank sharply. “Where have you sent them?”
Jie Ming smiled.
He did not answer, because the answer was already quite obvious.
On the other side, as Augusta exerted her strength, the spatial passage merely shook violently once before being firmly pressed down again by the vast mental energy on the far side.
Feeling the resistance coming from the other side, Augusta’s expression did not change.
“As expected.”
If it were only Augusta on her own, it would indeed be hard to pry open a seal of this scale in a short time.
But from the very beginning, she had never been alone.
“All priests, hear my command,” Augusta ordered calmly.
The next moment, all around the array, countless Black Giant priests opened their eyes at once.
“Mobilise your mental energy!”
Boom!
The massive mental waves made the whole of space seem to tremble.
It was no accident that, all these years, the Black Giants had remained the most central servant race under Jie Ming’s command.
The dragonblood mushroom-men’s combat ability was certainly formidable, even far surpassing many lifeforms of the same level, but the flaw in their souls had always remained.
The Dragonmen were not weak either, but their ability to reproduce was dreadful. The plant-people and Tentacle Trees were the exact opposite: they multiplied quickly, but struggled to produce combat strength of a high enough level.
Only the Black Giants had almost no obvious weakness.
They had decent intelligence and powerful bodies, and they did not reproduce slowly either.
Especially the Black Giant priests.
These special individuals were born with power of around the sixth level, and they had an extremely high degree of control over mental energy.
Although it was difficult for Black Giant priests to advance any further, for the present stage, at least, they were enough.
Built up over these years, the number of Black Giant priests under Jie Ming’s command had even broken a hundred million!
Now, just a portion summoned on a whim was enough to form a vast, boundless ocean of mental energy.
“Keep going!” Augusta ordered again.
All the Black Giant priests exerted their strength at once.
Boom…
Tremors visible to the naked eye soon appeared in the spatial passage.
The Holy Spirit army on the far side seemed to sense the danger too, and more mental energy converged frantically.
“Hold it down!”
“Hurry!”
“The passage mustn’t open!”
The Holy Spirit generals sent out shocked and furious mental waves.
But the gap in overall strength between the two sides was simply too great.
Crack!
The first crack appeared in the seal on the spatial passage, announcing the end of this contest of strength.
The crack spread rapidly.
Boom!!!
Under the impact of the mental energy unleashed together by the vast host of Black Giant priests, the entire spatial passage burst open, and a terrifying spatial storm swept out in every direction.
Augusta took a single step and charged straight into the spatial passage.
“Stop her!”
The several hundred Holy Spirits nearest to her moved to meet her at once.
Augusta merely raised her eyes. Electromagnetic force acted directly on their bodies and destroyed these Holy Spirits’ nervous systems outright.
Lifeforms below Augusta’s level were not even qualified to serve as an obstacle.
With a single thought, the Holy Spirits charging at the front all lost control of their bodies at once and fell from the sky.
Great swathes of the Holy Spirit army had lost the ability to move before they even came near Augusta.
“How can this…”
A Holy Spirit general sent out a terrified mental wave.
It did not even understand what kind of attack its subordinates had suffered.
But it had no time to think further. Augusta had already passed through their midst, charging straight for the several dozen Holy Spirit Kings standing at the very rear of the army!
