After defeating the parasite beasts, Jie Ming ensures the plane's stability with Carl's help. He then uses his alchemy skills to remodel Carl and Jack's bodies, allowing them to cultivate wizardry. Jie Ming arranges for these humans to be resettled on a new plane managed by Noren Academy, providing them with a safe and prosperous future. Afterward, Jie Ming sets his sights on a new goal: conquering the Holy Spirit plane, with Augusta deciding to join him.

The Holy Spirit civilisation was an extraordinarily prosperous one.

Tens of thousands of Holy Spirit Kings each held sway over planes of their own, and every one of them was the overlord of its domain.

The planes they ruled were arrayed layer upon layer in the void like the cells of a hive, packed densely together yet in perfect order.

The planes were linked to one another by dense networks of energy conduits, and transport networks of every form bound the entire Holy Spirit world into one.

Every Holy Spirit King had its own palace, army and subjects, and within its own territory it enjoyed supreme authority.

And above these Holy Spirit Kings were beings more powerful still.

They were honoured as the Three Great Sovereigns: the Blood Tentacle Tyrant, the Dark Realm Monarch and the Soul-Devouring Holy Sovereign.

Each of them commanded several thousand Holy Spirit Kings, and they were the true holders of power in the entire Holy Spirit civilisation.

“Ah!”

The King of Spreading Fear woke from a nightmare with a start.

His palace was built deep in the core of a dark purple planet, surrounded by thick walls of biological carapace.

The instant he woke, his tentacles curled up sharply; he shot up off his couch, his compound eyes frantically sweeping his surroundings.

Seeing nothing there, with only his own aura echoing through the palace, he finally let out a breath.

He lowered his gaze to his tentacles.

The tentacles severed back then had all grown back. The new carapace was a slightly lighter colour than the old, and they were still somewhat sluggish in function, but at least they looked whole.

Yet he still could not forget that terrifying scene.

That humanoid creature in the black wizard robe clearly looked exactly like the humans of the Passage World (Jack’s plane), and the life level he had sensed was clearly so weak…

So why, why could it crush his fellows with a single punch?

Why did those terrifying legions of monsters obey its commands?

Why could a single beam of light it released without a thought pierce more than a dozen eighth-level Holy Spirit Kings at once?

And then there was that look in its eyes.

That look, as though it were eyeing spoils of war, had become his nightmare, jolting him awake from bad dreams countless times.

The King of Spreading Fear was panting violently, his compound eyes flickering with an uneasy light in the dark.

Suddenly a communication alert jolted him out of the memory, and his tentacles gave an involuntary twitch.

He glanced at the message that had arrived. It was a notice from the Blood Tentacle Tyrant, summoning him to another world to attend a council.

He was silent for a moment, then slowly slid down from his couch and swam toward the teleportation array outside the palace.

The plane where the council was held was a gigantic biological palace floating in the void. Its dome was so high that its edges were almost out of sight, and enormous tentacle-shaped pillars stretched from the floor all the way to the top.

More than a thousand Holy Spirit Kings had already gathered inside the palace. They were coiled on their own biological pedestals, their tentacles crossing and tangling with one another, giving off a low mental resonance.

When the King of Spreading Fear entered the palace, the gazes of many Holy Spirit Kings turned on him at once, and every one of those gazes was full of mockery and derision.

Long used to looks like these, he lowered his head and quickly slid over to his own place.

Seated in the place of honor was a huge mass of tentacles.

It was twice the size of an ordinary Holy Spirit King, with tentacles as thick as mountain ranges. The carapace on its surface was a deep crimson, and the vein patterns across it pulsed faster and more forcefully than those of any other Holy Spirit.

The Blood Tentacle Tyrant, one of the Three Great Sovereigns of the Holy Spirits.

The King of Spreading Fear stopped before it, lowered his body slightly as a sign of respect, then withdrew to his own place.

As soon as the council began, one of the Holy Spirit Kings rapped its pedestal with a tentacle and drew attention to the King of Spreading Fear. “According to the news our scouts have sent back, the angel civilisation and the parasite civilisation have already reached a cooperation agreement. I fear they finished occupying the Passage World long ago! One step behind, and every step behind. Someone needs to answer for wrecking our strategy!”

As it spoke, that Holy Spirit King’s compound eyes turned on the King of Spreading Fear without the slightest attempt at concealment.

Another Holy Spirit King took up the thread. “The King of Spreading Fear suffered a defeat in the Passage World back then. Not only did he lose several of our colleagues, but after fleeing back he fell into fear himself. Look at the state of you now. How are you still worthy of your title?”

Yet another Holy Spirit King chimed in with a cold laugh. “I hear you even had several of your tentacles broken off? And your opponent was just a creature from a lower civilisation, not even king-level? You’ve truly disgraced our Holy Spirit race.”

The King of Spreading Fear kept his compound eyes lowered, with no intention whatsoever of defending himself.

His tentacles were curled up slightly beneath the pedestal, as though he were trying to hide himself.

Only he had truly lived through that battle, only he had seen the horror of that grey-robed human with his own eyes, only he had felt that bone-deep fear.

These Holy Spirit Kings mocking him had understanding bounded by the Holy Spirit race’s habitual arrogance, and experience that stopped at crushing victories over other civilisations.

More importantly, it was not necessarily true that these creatures really disbelieved him.

No fool ever became a Holy Spirit King. They simply wanted to use this to get something out of him, nothing more.

The King of Spreading Fear had knocked about among the Holy Spirit race for so many years that he understood all too well how his own kind thought.

Trample a fellow who has fallen out of favor, raise your own standing, and carve up his damaged territory and resources along the way.

These were the Holy Spirit race’s usual rules of the game.

“Enough.”

The Blood Tentacle Tyrant’s voice came from the place of honour, and its mental waves pressed all the clamour flat.

The palace instantly fell silent, and every Holy Spirit King drew in its tentacles at the same moment.

“I have already been in contact with the Dark Realm Monarch and the Soul-Devouring Holy Sovereign,” the Blood Tentacle Tyrant said slowly. “They will come bringing their armies. This time we will finish the enemy off in one stroke with our strongest force. With all three Great Sovereigns assembled, even if the enemy really does have a sovereign-level powerhouse, it can never beat us. But before that, we must first find a way to open that passage.”

Its compound eyes turned toward the King of Spreading Fear. “You are the only Holy Spirit King who has been to the Passage World, so your cooperation is essential.”

When the King of Spreading Fear heard this, the restless, uneasy sense of danger in his heart surged sharply.

It was as if a demonic claw had reached out of the darkness and was stretching through layer upon layer of void toward his core.

That twisted, hideous monster was laughing greedily in the dark, and the echoing laughter set his tentacles trembling beyond his control.

His compound eyes flew wide open, reflecting some indescribable terror.

“They’re coming!” He let out a tearing mental scream. “They’ve found me!”

Before his words had even faded, a spatial rift abruptly split open at his core.

The rift spread outward from the very centre of his chest cavity, and dark golden light poured out of it.

Immediately afterwards, a voice full of suppressed laughter, as if rising from an abyss, carried over from the other end of the rift:

“Heh heh heh heh, found it, found it! Quick, open the passage!”

Another voice followed close behind it, unhurried. “Don’t rush. This thing isn’t easy to open. Being able to analyse the spatial parameters like this at all is only thanks to the ‘coordinates’ on the other side. I’m tracking the space-time fluctuations. Wait a moment.”

The other Holy Spirit Kings, who had been about to jeer at the King of Spreading Fear’s sudden fit of madness, broke into an uproar once they saw this.

“What?”

“How is this possible?!”

“Has this guy turned traitor?!”

And the Blood Tentacle Tyrant, seeing this, flew into an instant rage.

Its tentacles flung open, and a violent mental wave swept through the entire palace like a tsunami.

“Bastard!!!” The Blood Tentacle Tyrant’s roar set the dome of the whole palace shaking.

It understood now: the enemy was actually using the King of Spreading Fear as a coordinate to invade the Holy Spirit world in reverse!
