The King of Spreading Fear, haunted by nightmares of a powerful human who devastated his companions, is summoned to a council by the Blood Tentacle Tyrant. During the meeting, other Holy Spirit Kings mock the King of Spreading Fear for his past defeat. The Blood Tentacle Tyrant announces a plan to attack the Passage World with all three Great Sovereigns, but before that, they need to open a passage. Suddenly, a spatial rift opens in the King of Spreading Fear, revealing invaders who are using him as a coordinate to invade the Holy Spirit world.

As the Blood Tentacle Tyrant’s roar died away, an eerie, deathly silence fell over the palace.

The King of Spreading Fear still hung there in midair.

His body was falling apart bit by bit. His massive carapace had split open from the chest, and the spatial rift at his core was still slowly widening.

Dark golden light kept welling up from deep within the rift, lighting up the inside of his body until it was completely translucent.

His tentacles hung limply, and the light in his compound eyes was gradually dimming too.

Clearly, he was about to die.

Yet the strange thing was that, on the verge of death, he no longer wailed or struggled. He simply watched his surroundings quietly, with a calm that was almost like release.

If the Holy Spirit race had anything like human facial expressions, then at this moment the look on the King of Spreading Fear’s face would surely have been a smile.

Because at last he no longer had to be afraid.

But the problem was that while he no longer had to be afraid, the other Holy Spirit Kings were starting to be!

Just then…

Boom!!!

A terrifying mental wave exploded through the palace.

“Bastard!!” The Blood Tentacle Tyrant erupted completely.

Its mental energy swept through the entire palace like a tsunami. The few Holy Spirit Kings closest to it were caught off guard and flung away, slamming hard into the enormous pedestals behind them.

Yet those Holy Spirit Kings did not even dare cry out in pain. They could only scramble back up in a sorry state and retreat to their own places.

“Bastard!”

The Blood Tentacle Tyrant roared again.

The second mental shockwave was even more terrifying than the first.

The very space around the palace shuddered. Countless floating blood-red crystals were shaken to powder, and the debris rained down like a downpour.

The entire palace was trembling.

“How did it come to this! You piece of trash!”

The Blood Tentacle Tyrant stared fixedly at the dying King of Spreading Fear.

“I sent you to lead the legions! I sent you to explore that world! What did you do?!”

The King of Spreading Fear did not answer. He did not even raise his compound eyes, and simply waited quietly for death to arrive.

That calm demeanour only made the Blood Tentacle Tyrant angrier still:

“Trash! You’re utter, complete trash!!”

Seeing their sovereign erupt, the surrounding Holy Spirit Kings joined in with curses of their own.

“Damned trash!”

“What exactly are those invaders!”

“That idiot, the King of Spreading Fear!”

“He didn’t even know the enemy had planted something on him!”

“How dare those lowly lifeforms…”

One mental wave after another burst out through the palace.

The curses grew more numerous and more chaotic.

Some cursed Jie Ming, some cursed the King of Spreading Fear, and some even began blaming one another.

The whole palace had turned into one gigantic field of mental noise.

Yet not one of the Holy Spirit Kings really cared what it was actually cursing.

They were only venting.

Or rather… they were desperately using their curses to hold down the fear in their hearts.

Because every one of them knew that the King of Spreading Fear had just proved one thing with his own life: what he had said before might very well not have been an exaggeration at all!

The Blood Tentacle Tyrant stared fixedly at the rift in the King of Spreading Fear’s core.

A few breaths later, it abruptly raised a tentacle.

Boom!

A vast mass of mental energy condensed in an instant, and its mental shockwave was compressed into a single beam that blasted savagely into the spatial rift.

Since the enemy had already fought its way to the doorstep, it would test them first!

At the other end of the rift.

Jie Ming and Augusta, who had been carefully checking the spatial parameters, opened their eyes almost at the same moment.

“Here it comes,” said Jie Ming.

The mental energy had already crossed the spatial rift and was driving straight at their minds.

Augusta gave a cold laugh. “You actually dare to use mental energy against wizards? How very brave!”

The two of them released their mental energy at the same time.

Boom!

Three streams of mental power collided violently on either side of the rift.

Jie Ming and Augusta displayed an absurdly high degree of control. The mental energy that had just come charging through was soon twisted and redirected by their own.

And then… it went back the way it came!

“What?!” The Blood Tentacle Tyrant jolted violently.

Immediately afterwards, it felt a completely different kind of power come crashing back along the mental link.

“Damn it!”

It hurriedly cut the connection, but it was still a step too late.

Along with the mental energy, several black curses surged into the palace on the back of the reflected mental energy.

Jie Ming was not especially proficient in curse wizardry, so the spells he had cast on the spot were not particularly strong. Still, they were at least targeted spells, modified on the spot to suit the Holy Spirit race’s traits.

Against a Holy Spirit King, this kind of power could hardly do any real harm.

But for the other Holy Spirits, it was nothing short of a disaster!

Hundreds of streaks of black light fell in an instant, and blood-curdling screams at once rang out through the great hall.

“Aaah!!”

“Save me!”

“What is this!”

The low-level Holy Spirit attendants all around collapsed one after another. Their carapaces rapidly shrivelled, their tentacles withered frantically, and every last bit of life force was drained from their bodies.

Within a few breaths, dozens of attendants had turned into puddles of dark liquid.

The palace descended into total chaos.

Some Holy Spirit Kings frantically released mental energy to dispel the curses, some simply blasted the attendants beside them away, and others instinctively backed off, terrified that they would be the next target.

“Get away!”

“Don’t come near me!”

“Damned thing!”

“Dispel it!”

The Holy Spirit Kings who had been cursing a moment ago were now finally, truly panicking.

But the Blood Tentacle Tyrant, standing at the centre of the palace, seemed not to see the chaos around it at all. Without a word, it stared at the spatial rift.

That mental clash just now had already told it everything.

This kind of power…

It gave the Blood Tentacle Tyrant an extremely dangerous feeling.

The words the King of Spreading Fear had spoken before surfaced again in its mind at this moment.

That monster that had punched straight through an eighth-level Holy Spirit King’s defences.

Those terrifying beams of light that could pierce more than a dozen Holy Spirit Kings in an instant.

Before, they had all assumed the King of Spreading Fear must have exaggerated a large part of his account, and that he was only making excuses for his own failure.

But now…

“Silence!”

At the Blood Tentacle Tyrant’s low shout, the chaotic palace quickly fell quiet.

The Blood Tentacle Tyrant swiftly suppressed the rage churning inside it. It knew perfectly well that carrying on in a frenzy would accomplish nothing.

If the enemy on the other side really was as the King of Spreading Fear had described, then every mistake from here on could get more Holy Spirit Kings killed in this place.

“Contact the Dark Realm Monarch and the Soul-Devouring Holy Sovereign. Tell them…”

The Blood Tentacle Tyrant’s tone was ice-cold. “Bring every army they have! Hold nothing back!”

“At the same time, mobilise every legion under my command, then seal off the palace. All Holy Spirit Kings, join the spatial suppression at once.”

It raised a tentacle and pointed at the spatial rift. “Until the reinforcements arrive, nothing is to be allowed out of there!”

“Understood!”

Mental waves answered one after another in quick succession.

At once, dozens of Holy Spirit Kings released their mental energy together, and a vast mass of mental power converged like a rising tide.

The spatial rift, which had still been widening, abruptly slowed its expansion and was even pressed back, bit by bit.

In the end, it held at a fixed size.

The Blood Tentacle Tyrant did not seal the rift off completely, because it was waiting for the other two sovereigns to arrive at the head of their legions.

By then, this rift would no longer be an entrance the enemy had opened. It would become the gateway through which they tore their own way into the Passage World in reverse!
