I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality Chapter 841: The Wonder, Part Two
Paying no mind to the wizards’ reactions below, Avery went on:
“From the observed reactions so far, this Wonder is not in nature a common spatial storm, nor an energy tide, nor a time turbulence.”
“The particulars will need further confirmation from a reconnaissance team.”
A thing like a Wonder was in the first place a “consequence” of the vast mass of elements converging within the Endless Chaotic Void.
An ordered convergence of vast quantities of elements gives birth to a plane; a disordered one gives birth to a disaster.
Because of the Endless Chaotic Void’s own nature, the common Wonders are ultra-wide-range spatial storms, or energy tides of extremely high intensity, or the rather harder-to-notice time turbulence.
These correspond respectively to the convergence of the wind element, the fire element and the water element.
As for why there is no earth element, it is because the earth element’s own inertness is rather higher than the other three, so that even when it converges it forms a stable zone instead.
With luck, such a region becomes the substrate for the birth of a plane.
But… this Wonder was not one of the three common types…
Jie Ming considered that thoughtfully.
That generally meant a vast mass of different elements had converged in that region and, through some coincidence, had reached a certain ratio to one another and created a new form of elemental energy.
Generally speaking, in such a case a plane founded on that new element ought to be born.
But if something went wrong during the birth, it could indeed cause the plane’s birth to collapse, producing a disaster instead.
From what Jie Ming knew, a Wonder of that kind was the most troublesome to handle; before the properties of these new elemental energies were understood, dealing with it carried extreme risk.
On the platform, Dean Avery Knight was still speaking. “Because the principal elemental energy composing this Wonder appears able to affect time and space, the space and time of the Endless Chaotic Void in that region are extremely disordered. Incidentally, that disorder has even affected the surrounding environment; it seems to have interfered with plane exploration as well.”
Hearing that, Jie Ming instinctively turned to look at Augusta.
As it happened Augusta turned to look at the same moment. The two exchanged a glance and each understood at once.
So the interference the Augusta family had spoken of, too strong to allow the coordinates to be calculated without more time, was the interference from this Wonder.
“…In short, for this reason the Wonder’s precise coordinates cannot be confirmed for the moment. The Workshop has already sent people to confirm it in person, but because of the temporal disorder of the surrounding environment we may not receive any reply soon either, so we must plan early.”
As he spoke, Avery tapped lightly, and a void route extended slowly across the light screen, finally intersecting with that gray-black region.
“The precise timing cannot be determined, but by the Workshop’s route and a rough calculation of the surrounding region, in about fifteen hundred years the plane cluster belonging to the Noren Workshop will come into direct contact with this Wonder.”
Wizard civilization’s Origin Plane had gone entirely out of control on account of an unknown experiment directed by a certain ninth-level wizard.
The whole Origin Plane had become a terrible sphere of light that expanded without pause and grew without limit in energy.
To this day that sphere of light was still slowly expanding, and any plane that drew near it would in the end be swallowed completely, leaving not the slightest trace.
For that very reason, the countless planes under the control of the whole wizard civilization had always been sailing slowly in the direction away from that sphere of light.
Every power was like a vast fleet of planes, crossing the Endless Chaotic Void endlessly, without end.
In a certain sense the whole of wizard civilization was itself a kind of “Wonder,” only one of extraordinarily outrageous scale.
The first time Jie Ming had fused with a plane and observed the Endless Chaotic Void, he had already seen the sphere of light the Origin Plane had formed.
The “route” in Dean Avery’s mouth was the path along which the Noren Workshop was fleeing the Origin Plane.
And the Wonder discovered this time was the obstacle standing in the Noren Workshop’s path of flight.
The wizards present understood the situation one after another, but their mood stayed fairly steady, and only a low murmur of discussion arose.
After all, there were still over a thousand years to prepare, and even to high-level wizards of long life, a thousand-odd years was hardly a figure to be lightly dismissed.
That much time was enough for wizards to make thoroughly complete preparations.
Dean Avery’s gaze passed slowly across everyone present. “Because the precise time of encounter cannot yet be determined, I hope that from a thousand years hence, none of you will take part in expeditions of excessive duration, and will remain within the Academy as far as possible.”
“The Workshop will very likely need to concentrate all its high-end combat power by then, to face this disaster together.”
“Of course, once the precise time of encounter has been calculated I will give further notice, and you may arrange your time according to the particulars then.”
The wizards present nodded and agreed to Dean Avery’s request.
But although they now knew the broad shape of it, the wizards’ sense of urgency was not especially high.
Put plainly, the reason for handling a Wonder carefully was that a Wonder was itself a kind of resource.
But if there truly were no gentle way to deal with it… the Noren Workshop did have two eighth-level wizards, and at worst the two of them could simply punch straight through it!
An eighth-level wizard’s law solidification granted immunity to every fancy special effect, and their terrible combat power and outrageous store of knowledge ensured they could meet any crisis.
You could say that every eighth-level wizard was a power’s anchor stone.
That was why, back when the Noren Workshop had only one eighth-level wizard, even huddling together with the Chaos Secret Cult and the Tower of Annihilation, it could only be called a small-to-medium power.
Judged alone, it would only have counted as a small power.
And once Grand-Mentor Anton advanced to the eighth level, even the Noren Workshop by itself rose in assessment to a medium power.
Because one more eighth-level wizard is not merely a doubling of combat power; more importantly, two eighth-level wizards can garrison the power in rotation.
There would be no repeat of the situation where, during the thousand-odd years one eighth-level wizard was away on a mission, some great sudden problem arose and the whole power was left helpless.
The meeting did not last long. Once Dean Avery had explained the situation he declared it adjourned, and everyone rose and left in turn.
Viola vanished the moment it broke up, and no one knew where she had run off to.
Jie Ming glanced at Augusta and nodded to her by way of greeting.
The two did not talk further, but each stepped onto a teleportation array and left.
