I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality Chapter 840: Five Years and a Wonder

Augusta then raised a hand and drew it lightly across the star chart, and a large swath of data was at once marked out.

“Also, from analysis of the elemental radiation spectrum, the concentration of the earth element inside the plane far exceeds standard values, and overall elemental activity is extremely high. Judging by elemental characteristics of that kind, this should be a large transcendent civilization with a great many transcendent lives, and the plane’s rules should incline more toward matter.”

Jie Ming looked at the mass of information on the light screen, calculating rapidly.

Put that way, this plane should hold a seventh-level civilization with multiple seventh-levels.

A scale of that order counted as quite a good standard even set against the Noren Workshop’s war records of recent years.

But that suited him all the better.

“It seems your Augusta family’s luck really is good, to have found a plane with resources this abundant.”

That it could give rise to seventh-level beings, and more than one at that, meant this plane’s resources were rich enough.

For Jie Ming, the reason he was excited was that only combat strength of this order would let him field-test the standard of his Talisman-Rune Artifacts.

Jie Ming raised his head and looked at Augusta on the light screen. “So how long will it take, roughly, to calculate the plane’s detailed coordinates?”

Augusta thought and gave a rough figure. “From what the family has said, fully calculating the complete detailed coordinates will take about another five years.”

“That slow?” Jie Ming was somewhat surprised to hear it.

Calculating a plane’s coordinates was indeed heavy labor, but it should not take that long.

Normally an ordinary sixth-level logistics wizard would need only a year or two to calculate it fully.

Augusta shook her head regretfully. “I am not too clear on the particulars either. The interference seems to be somewhat heavy, but what exactly the interference is I do not really know.”

“Is that so…” Jie Ming stroked his chin, thoughtful.

Still…

“Never mind, five years is five years. That is not too long, and it gives me time to prepare in advance.” Jie Ming smiled.

As it happened, his Talisman-Rune Artifacts needed time to be manufactured in bulk as well.

And he could take the opportunity to update and strengthen the Return to Ruins Armor, and refine his own combat system.

Even though, as things stood, it would not much matter if this outer puppet were blown apart, in the end he would eventually complete the Mustard Seed Dao-Holding True Body Art, so preparing in advance was no error either.

And the greatest advantage of these magics of the cultivation system was that their power rose in step as one’s level rose.

All he had to do now was rework these magics with his sixth-level knowledge and raise their output multiplier.

At that thought Jie Ming nodded to Augusta with a smile. “Then I will see you in five years. I look forward to fighting alongside you.”

At that the corner of Augusta’s mouth lifted very faintly. “See you in five years. You can take a look then at the power I have newly mastered.”

“Now that I am rather looking forward to.”

“You will certainly not be disappointed!”

The communication screen went dark with that, and quiet returned to the laboratory.

Jie Ming thought for a moment, then began checking the material warehouse’s reserves, purchasing what was lacking while mobilizing the Creation System to begin manufacturing the new Talisman-Rune Artifacts.

…

…

Jie Ming had assumed nothing further would happen within those five years.

He had not expected that a year later an emergency Academy meeting notice would appear on his magical network terminal.

Jie Ming glanced at it; it was an emergency assembly notice issued by Dean Avery Knight.

“Strange…”

Jie Ming’s eyes stirred slightly. He first arranged his various experiments, then changed into a wizard’s robe and, on the teleportation authority the emergency assembly notice granted, went by teleportation array straight to beside the Academy’s conference hall.

Entering the hall, his steps could not help pausing slightly, because there were far fewer people in the conference room than he had imagined.

Within the great circular conference hall, only a dozen or so figures were seated at this moment.

Looking carefully, all of them were formal wizards of the sixth level or above.

Seeing Jie Ming come in, several sixth-level wizards nodded to him lightly in greeting.

Augusta still sat in her usual seat, arms folded, eyes closed in repose.

Hearing footsteps, she only opened her eyes and glanced at Jie Ming, nodding slightly by way of greeting.

And of those fifth-level resident wizards who ordinarily handled the various research projects, not one had appeared.

The whole conference room was a great deal quieter than usual.

Jie Ming realized at once that whatever was to be discussed today was probably out of the ordinary.

He had barely sat down when Viola popped up beside him. “Junior brother, you are late!”

“I was in the laboratory when the notice came, and had to tidy up a little.”

Jie Ming explained, then asked, “What has happened?”

Viola propped up her chin, the corner of her mouth curving. “I… have no idea!”

Jie Ming: “…”

Viola looked at him and laughed. “But there is no need to worry. It is only an emergency notice, not a compulsory one, so it seems there is some trouble, but nothing that matters much.”

“True enough.” Jie Ming nodded slowly.

While the two were talking, a figure appeared out of thin air on the platform ahead.

It was Dean Avery Knight.

Seeing the last sixth-level wizard take his seat, Avery waved a hand lightly.

Hmmm…

At the center of the conference hall a light screen unfolded slowly, countless points of light flowing through the air and finally converging into a vast partial map model of the Endless Chaotic Void.

Avery’s voice was low. “I have notified only you today, because what is to be said next is not yet suitable for disclosure to a wider group.”

That one sentence left the whole conference room silent.

Every gaze converged as one on that projection.

Avery reached out and tapped, and at the projection’s edge a region abruptly lit up.

By the annotations on the projection, there should have been no plane there at all.

The light screen threw up the observed imagery of that region: a mass of gray-black area churning and spreading without pause.

Even as a mere projection, it conveyed an indescribable oppressiveness, as though one could feel through the screen that bottomless intent to devour.

“Not long ago, a forward reconnaissance station on the outer edge of the Noren Workshop’s sphere of influence discovered an unusual phenomenon within the Endless Chaotic Void.”

“By preliminary judgment…” Avery paused slightly, “this should count as a Wonder of the Endless Chaotic Void.”

In the conference room, a good many expressions changed at that.

A Wonder.

This was wizard civilization’s collective term for those special disasters that exceeded ordinary circumstances and were vast enough in scale to affect an entire region of the void.

Every kind of Wonder very nearly always meant trouble… and resources.
