I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality Chapter 839: Testing and Intelligence

~5 minute read · 1,275 words

Carrying the two freshly made Talisman-Rune Artifacts, Jie Ming crossed a teleportation array and arrived deep in the Infernal Sulfur Plane’s star region.

This area had originally been used to store the attendant planets of stars already refined, but Jie Ming had now had the black giants clear out a section here specifically to serve as a testing ground.

Looking at the planets in the far distance serving as targets, Jie Ming first tested the Talisman-Rune Artifact etched with the Terminus Ray.

He mobilized his mental energy and activated the core array of the Talisman-Rune Artifact in his hand.

Boom!

A dazzling beam shot out with a roar from the array released at the Talisman-Rune Artifact’s front end.

The light released in that instant lit the whole testing area bright as day.

Wherever the beam passed, spatial structure was torn open, and every meteor and asteroid along its path serving as a target was very nearly vaporized entirely the instant it touched the beam.

In very nearly the blink of an eye the beam had run through the entire testing zone, and then through the solid planet behind it that served as the ultimate target, before vanishing into the depths of the cosmos.

That solid planet, once the beam had passed through it, exploded on the spot, its shattered crust and mantle matter very nearly vaporized to gas in a blink, the shockwave visibly expanding as a sphere through the cosmos.

And that shockwave, formed of such a vast mass of matter, even swept several nearby asteroids that were not far enough away into destruction along with it.

Jie Ming glanced down at the recorded parameters on the testing instrument beside him, and his eyebrows rose despite himself.

The Terminus Ray had originally been a spell released as a simulation of a supernova explosion, but after the Talisman-Rune Artifact’s reinforcement its destructive power was very nearly indistinguishable from the particle stream of a genuine supernova.

From the data, the Terminus Ray as reinforced by the Talisman-Rune Artifact was now enough to destroy a star-class body.

Indeed, probably only an upper-middle-sized star could retain any matter under an attack like that; a slightly smaller star would have all its matter blasted away outright.

In destructive power it had already fully reached the standard of a seventh-level spell!

“Good, good.”

Jie Ming nodded, satisfied, and then swapped in the other Talisman-Rune Artifact.

Having ordered the black giant priests to arrange for this area to be cleared, Jie Ming moved on to another testing ground.

He took out the Echo Shell Talisman-Rune Artifact and aimed it at another fresh solid planet in the distance meant for testing.

As his mental energy activated it, a bolt of light surfaced and became a stream of light rushing straight at the distant target.

Sound cannot travel in vacuum, but with Jie Ming’s vision he could see clearly that after the first Echo Shell landed, a gorgeous burst of firelight blossomed across the planet’s surface.

The flames spread across the whole planet in an instant, burning the entire surface red.

The vast shockwave tore the atmosphere apart outright, leaving the whole surface exposed to the radiation of vacuum.

As the planet’s surface cooled rapidly in vacuum, apart from a change of color, that attack had left only a crater no more than a few thousand kilometers across on the planet’s surface.

On the scale of the entire planet, that did not even count as a light wound.

“Enough to clear the surface biosphere, but a long way short of destroying the planet.”

Jie Ming looked on calmly, then fired a second Echo Shell without hesitation.

The residual elements gathered by that earlier Echo Shell had already merged soundlessly into the planet’s material structure.

In the instant the second landed, an exceedingly deep roar came from within the planet.

The whole far side of the planet was shattered by force, broken stone and molten magma gushing out from the breach.

The third…

The planet disintegrated entirely!

Planetary fragments tumbled and drifted across the void, and residual elemental particles still kept triggering faint secondary explosions among the debris, turning the whole testing zone into a long band of fragments glittering with elemental light.

Jie Ming shut off the test data panel and stood quietly alone in the cosmos for a while.

Looking at the planetary fragments still spreading in the distance, and the elemental flashes not yet fully dispersed, his expression turned somewhat strange.

There was a note in his tone that could have been relief or resignation. “The effect matches my expectations well enough, but I hope the plane Augusta and her people found… is big enough.”

…

…

Several years later, when Augusta’s call came through, Jie Ming was standing before the experimental bench running durability tests on the last batch of Echo Shell Talisman-Rune Artifacts.

At the center of the laboratory, silver-black Talisman-Rune Artifacts like so many gemstones hung in midair.

As the rune array on the bench ran without pause, it released ring after ring of invisible energy oscillation, simulating the conditions of a Talisman-Rune Artifact releasing a spell.

Under the array’s excitation, the Talisman-Rune Artifacts repeated the full cycle of activation and recovery over and over, the elemental energy stored around them pouring endlessly into the Talisman-Rune Artifacts and then, during their recovery, surging back out to be received by the rune array and absorbed again by the Talisman-Rune Artifacts as they were activated anew.

Round and round without the slightest pause.

Accompanied by a sharp report, a crack appeared in the smooth, mirror-flat surface of one Talisman-Rune Artifact.

Jie Ming raised a hand to record the last set of data, and a trace of satisfaction finally appeared at the corner of his mouth.

“Durability up twenty-seven percent, rune fatigue decay down thirty-one percent, and the failsafe measures after damage can guarantee no harm to the outside… good, that meets expectations.”

Just then.

Hmmm…

The magical network terminal vibrated lightly, and a communication request popped up with it.

“Oh?”

Glancing at the contact, Jie Ming shut down the experimental array offhandedly, and the light in the air rapidly condensed into a light screen.

Augusta’s figure appeared within it.

She still wore a silver-white robe, her long black hair bound behind her head, her expression so cool that very nearly no change could be read in it.

“Contacting me at this hour… are you ready to take the field?” Jie Ming asked with a smile.

Augusta had no intention of exchanging pleasantries. She raised a hand and a vast data package was transmitted over.

“The intelligence on the target plane has been confirmed.”

As her words fell, a complete planar star chart unfolded before Jie Ming.

On the light screen a vast, earth-yellow plane turned slowly, dense data around it refreshing and scrolling without pause.

Jie Ming raised his head with interest and studied the intelligence before him carefully. “That was fast, and the data is very detailed. The Augusta family’s intelligence analysts are quite something.”

Augusta only nodded and went on with her briefing:

“The target’s size should be a medium plane; the coordinate position is still being calculated. From the radiation feedback of the elemental spectrum, at least five independent seventh-level energy reactions have been preliminarily detected.”

“Considering that a good many high-level lives possess the ability to conceal their auras, the actual number will only be higher, not lower.”
