I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality Chapter 768: The True Form of the End
At the instant of contact, Jie Ming’s perception felt as though it had been swallowed whole.
His body still stood in the center of the quiet chamber, but his vision, his perception, his every understanding of the world, were in that moment wrenched forcibly out of the coordinate system they had always sat in.
The physical structure of the Infernal Sulfur Plane vanished from before his eyes.
In its place was a void filled with countless points of light, a void that could fairly be called boundless.
Those points were dense beyond counting, distributed through every corner of his perceptual field.
Gorgeous colors twisted and interwove, forming a chaotic, hallucinatory base color.
Every point of light was a current of elemental turbulence, rolling, colliding, splitting and merging in the Endless Chaotic Void without a moment’s rest. And scattered sparsely across that distorted base color were some orderly points.
Their luminosity was steady, their colors gentle, like pearls carefully arranged by an invisible hand.
Those were the wizard civilization’s planes, each giving off, at its own particular frequency, the marker fluctuation that said “this is wizard civilization territory.” But what truly held Jie Ming at this moment was not these planes.
It was a certain direction at the edge of his perception.
Even with his perception deliberately suppressed to an extremely low level, that “light” still pierced through every layer of suppression and, with an almost brutish insistence, forced its way into occupying the boundary of his awareness.
It was a curtain of pure white light.
So white that no other color was mixed into it at all, so white that perception itself trembled.
It bore down from one direction of his field of vision, blotting out everything, like an entire firmament burning with pure white flame, slowly toppling over. Jie Ming knew he was still an endless distance from that curtain of light, that no energy shock could possibly reach this far.
But even so, he could still feel an inexpressible pressure!
The absolute order held within that white light, its volume, its luminosity, and that overwhelming sense of presence that made every creature which saw it afraid by instinct. Jie Ming held his breath without thinking.
In the state of fusion with a plane origin he had no such function at all, but human instinct still made his chest perform the motion. He finally understood why Viola had told him to lower his perception strength.
Had he fused with the plane origin at maximum perception, entirely unprepared, that white light would have been enough to swallow his perceptual field completely in an instant. That impact would have been enough to injure his mental energy on the spot.
Lowering his perception deliberately was like putting on sunglasses in advance to look at the noon sun.
Still dazzling, but at least it would not burn his eyes outright.
Jie Ming pressed forward no further. Instead, as Viola had said, he held his current suppression in place and slowly expanded the boundary of his perception outward. As that boundary drew back inch by inch, more background points of light came into view.
And that curtain of pure white finally began to show an outline, rather than being “one infinitely large sheet of light.”
Its edges carried a soft gradient, from pure white to pale gold and then to transparent, like a boundless ocean of light with foam rolling across its surface.
All around it, a great many wizard civilization planes were moving slowly, their marker fluctuations drawing fine lines through his perception, and the direction of every one of those lines led away from that white light.
Jie Ming suddenly went still.
Among those lines running away from it was one extremely faint thread connected to the origin point of his own perception.
That was the Infernal Sulfur Plane.
He realized abruptly that the Infernal Sulfur Plane was moving too.
Moving at an extremely slow but absolutely unceasing speed, in a direction that carried it away from that white light.
Every plane of the wizard civilization was fleeing from its side.
Jie Ming pushed his perception further out and finally “saw” the rough extent of that curtain of pure white.
It filled nearly half the area of his perceptual field, the gradient light at its edge reaching to the far side of his vision, as though someone had daubed one endless stroke of white and gold paint across the void.
Reasoning from the theory of perception in the Endless Chaotic Void, it had to be a mass of elemental power pure to the point of extreme order.
Its elemental density was too high to measure in any ordinary unit, and its degree of order was strong enough to have carved out, by main force, a region of the Endless Chaotic Void without a trace of turbulence in it.
And the pressure he had felt a moment ago was precisely the true sense of presence of that mass of power.
Jie Ming felt like a mortal standing before an exploding supernova.
Separated from it by a distance that was vast for a mortal, yet the power of that “supernova” could reach him with ease all the same.
More alarming still, that white light was continuing to expand, at an extremely slow rate.
And the wizard civilization planes around it were moving outward at a rhythm synchronized to its expansion, keeping a safe distance at all times. Jie Ming recalled Viola’s words and could not help a certain feeling:
“She was right. An existence at that level does not need any special marker…”
As long as a wizard fused with a plane origin, any one of them would find that white light in his perceptual field immediately.
It was not marked, because it was itself the marker.
It was the wizard civilization’s origin plane.
Or rather, whatever the origin plane had originally been, it was now the initial coordinate that every plane of the wizard civilization took as its zero point. Every plane of the wizard civilization had been fitted with a relative movement function at the very start of its reconstruction.
However many new planes the wizard civilization conquered, and into whatever corner of the Endless Chaotic Void those planes were dragged, they always used that white light as their reference and held themselves outside a fixed safe distance from it.
Jie Ming suddenly understood the true meaning of the name “Apostles of the End.”
Why the octopus-men, the Multiracial Alliance, and every civilization the wizard civilization had ever ground beneath it would choose that word was now perfectly obvious. The End was not something the wizards brought.
The End was that mass of white light behind them.
The wizards were merely the ones walking ahead of it.
That white light expanded through the Endless Chaotic Void at an unstoppable rate, and everywhere it passed, every element was either absorbed or annihilated. And all the planes of the wizard civilization pushed outward, always keeping ahead of the white light.
Before the white light arrives, the wizards arrive first.
The wizards arrive, and a civilization ends.
For the other civilizations of the Endless Chaotic Void, the order in which they saw things was this: first they saw the wizards, and then they saw the End. The wizards were not the End itself, but the wizards were what announced the End before it came.
Those civilizations, even if they were lucky enough not to be conquered by the wizards, would be swallowed by the white light and meet their ending in the end all the same.
In a certain sense, this wizard habit of endlessly searching out planes and expanding outward had actually saved a great many planes that lacked the strength to save themselves.
Jie Ming slowly withdrew his perception and released the fused state.
His feet came back down on the hard stone floor of the quiet chamber, and the domain’s light drew itself back into his body automatically.
The runic walls of the chamber were as quiet as ever, and the Five Aggregates Rainbow Mirror hung at his side giving off a faint pale golden glow.
He was silent for a long while before he opened his magic network terminal and sent Viola a message.
“That mass of white light at the origin plane. What exactly is it?”
The message had not been sent long before Viola’s reply came back.
“You saw it?” she asked.
Jie Ming stared at that line and wrote back, “I saw it. What is it?”
This time Viola took quite a while to answer.
“Honestly, I am not too clear on it either. It seems to be something only eighth-level wizards are qualified to know the details of.”
“But Grandmaster Anton mentioned it once when we were talking.”
Jie Ming frowned. “Mentioned what?”
“That it is the product of an experiment by a ninth-level wizard.”
