Previously on His innocent wife is a dangerous hacker....
Bella and Leo reconcile after a misunderstanding about his affection. Leo reassures Bella with physical affection, and they reaffirm their love. The chapter then shifts to Bella's late pregnancy, where Leo develops an obsession with her growing stomach, constantly taking pictures, much to Bella's amused exasperation. Despite her occasional irritability, Leo finds her more adorable than ever.

His wife was softer, roundernand undeniably more cuddly than before. Every time she walked past him with her large tummy, his thoughts occasionally wandered somewhere they absolutely shouldn’t.

Like the way her dresses hugged her curves differently now.

Or the way she would sometimes lean against him, her softness pressing into his side and he would have to physically stop himself from pulling her closer.

Or the way she looked in the morning, sleepy and soft and completely unaware of how beautiful she was.

Leo would immediately clear his throat and look away.

Enough.

He had work to do.

There were more important matters occupying his mind anyway.

Recently, a new mob had started trying to move into his territory, quietly testing his influence and attempting to take control of areas that belonged to him. They were subtle about it at first, small shipments, small deals, nothing that would draw too much attention. But Leo had noticed.

Leo had no intention of allowing that.

He needed to find the damn fool behind it and remind him exactly whose territory he had stepped into.

His expression hardened as he looked through the information on his desk. The papers were spread out in front of him, names and locations and connections all mapped out in neat, precise lines. His finger traced one of the names slowly.

Find him.

Then we’ll see how brave he really is.

Meanwhile, completely unaware of her husband’s dangerous thoughts, Bella was sitting comfortably in the living room with one hand resting over her enormous tummy while she ate a bowl of fresh fruit and salad.

Her attention was completely focused on the television.

A cartoon was playing. Something colorful and ridiculous with characters that made absolutely no sense. The kind of thing that normal adults would watch for five minutes and then change the channel.

But Bella was completely invested.

She suddenly burst into laughter.

Jace sat beside her, watching the cartoon with the same resigned expression he had developed after witnessing Bella’s recent obsession with ridiculous animated shows. His face was blank, his eyes slightly glazed over and his snack sat forgotten in his hand.

He wasn’t even surprised anymore.

Somehow, the woman who could discuss serious work matters with everyone one moment could spend the next hour completely invested in a cartoon where the characters behaved in ways that made absolutely no sense.

Bella laughed again.

"Look at him!"

Jace glanced at the screen. A character had just run into a wall for the third time in two minutes.

"He’s an idiot."

Bella immediately turned toward him. Her eyes narrowed, and her lips pressed together.

"Don’t insult him."

Jace blinked, caught off guard.

"It’s just a cartoon."

"I don’t care."

Jace slowly looked around the room, cataloging the nearby objects.

A cushion. Safe.

A remote. Medium safe.

A knife... well, very dangerous.

He wisely decided not to argue.

Because everyone in the house had already learned one important rule.

If Bella was enjoying her cartoon, nobody was allowed to say they were bored.

The last person (Rip Victim Jay Jay) who had made that mistake had been chased across the room by Bella with whatever object she could grab first. It had been a slipper, as it turned out. A surprisingly accurate slipper.

Jace had witnessed it.

He had learned.

So he simply picked up his own snack and continued watching, his expression carefully neutral.

Bella leaned back comfortably, one hand still resting over her tummy as the cartoon continued playing. She shifted slightly, trying to find a more comfortable position and then settled back with a satisfied sigh.

Another loud burst of laughter escaped her. She laughed so hard that her whole body shook and she had to press her hand against her stomach.

"Stop, stop," she gasped between giggles. "The baby is kicking!"

Jace glanced at her and smiled despite himself. He couldn’t help it. There was something infectious about her happiness, something warm and genuine that made it impossible not to smile.

"Jacyyy..."

Bella’s voice suddenly sounded different.

Jace immediately turned his head away from the television, the snack in his hand forgotten as he looked at her. A moment ago, she had been laughing but now she was sitting unusually still on the sofa.

One hand was wrapped around the side of her large tummy while the other rested protectively underneath it, almost as though she were instinctively supporting the weight of her belly. Her brows had pulled together and the cheerful expression on her face had completely disappeared.

Jace’s expression changed at once.

"What are you feeling, Bella Bell?"

Bella swallowed, her eyes dropping toward her tummy.

"I... I feel... I feel weird."

Jace straightened in his seat.

"Weird how?"

"I don’t know." Bella’s fingers slowly tightened against the fabric of her dress. "I felt like..."

She paused, trying to understand the strange sensation that had suddenly passed through her body. It wasn’t something she could easily describe. There had simply been an unfamiliar pressure, followed by a warm sensation that made her heart begin beating faster.

"...something happened."

Jace was already standing.

"What happened?"

Bella slowly looked down.

There was a sudden warm sensation, followed by fluid that she couldn’t control.

Her eyes widened.

"Jace..."

The way she said his name made him immediately follow her gaze.

For one second, Jace simply stared.

His brain seemed to stop working.

Then his eyes widened in shock.

"Oh, shoot!"

Bella’s heart began racing.

"What?"

Jace pointed toward her, his face suddenly filled with disbelief. "I think your water broke!"

Bella’s eyes became enormous. "My... what?"

"Your water!" Jace exclaimed, looking between Bella and her tummy. "Bella, I think the baby is coming!"

For a moment, neither of them moved.

The television continued playing in the background as if nothing had happened, the cheerful cartoon music completely mismatched with the sudden panic that had taken over the room.

Bella stared at Jace.

Jace stared at Bella.

Then Jace suddenly grabbed his phone. "Don’t panic. Don’t panic."

Bella blinked at him.

"You’re the one panicking!"

"I’m not panicking!" His fingers were already moving rapidly across his phone as he began calling the medical team.
