His innocent wife is a dangerous hacker. Chapter 887 Inheritance

Leo sat beside her, his hand briefly brushing hers beneath the table.
Across the table, Jacob’s gaze remained fixed on them. His eyes moved from Bella to Leo, then back to Bella again. His expression was unreadable but there was something cold in the way he watched her.
Roman leaned back slightly, his arms crossing over his chest. He seemed almost amused, as though he was enjoying this tension, savouring the silence like a cat watching mice.
Ashton glanced between Bella and Leo before looking away, his jaw tight, his fingers restless against the tablecloth.
The tension was almost unbearable.
Bella lowered her eyes toward the table.
She understood why everyone was looking at her like that.
Grandpa William’s grandsons had never been particularly close to her and after his death, the atmosphere between them had become even more complicated. She knew they were waiting for the will and she could almost guess what was going through their minds.
Grandpa William had loved her deeply, and everyone knew it. They probably wondered what he had decided to leave for her, whether he had given her a large portion of his property or whether he had made some decision that could change the balance between the family members.
But Bella honestly didn’t care. She wasn’t here for the money or the property. She was here because her grandfather had asked for his family to gather one last time and she would honour that wish no matter what.
A few moments later, William’s lawyer arrived with his legal team, carrying several neatly arranged files and documents. Their arrival made the already tense atmosphere even more strained and everyone slowly settled into their seats around the large dining table.
The lawyer greeted everyone politely before placing his files safely beside him. He was a tall, distinguished man in his sixties with silver-grey hair and a calm, deep voice. He had been William’s legal counsel for over two decades.
"Before we begin with the legal matters," he said calmly, "I believe Mr. William would have preferred that his family eat together first."
Nobody objected.
So dinner began.
It was one of the strangest family dinners Bella had ever experienced.
There was plenty of food on the table, beautifully prepared dishes arranged across the long dining table. Roasted meats, fresh vegetables, warm bread, elegant desserts and everything had been prepared with care. But hardly anyone seemed interested in eating.
The usual conversations were missing. There was no laughter, no teasing, no comfortable family chatter. The only sounds were the occasional clink of cutlery and the muffled shuffling of feet as servants moved quietly in the background.
The sound of cutlery against porcelain seemed unusually loud in the silence.
Bella quietly ate a little while Leo remained beside her, occasionally checking whether she was alright.
She noticed that Jacob barely touched his food. He pushed it around his plate aimlessly, as though going through the motions without any real interest. His jaw was tight, his posture rigid and his eyes kept drifting toward the lawyer’s folder with barely concealed impatience.
Roman kept glancing toward the lawyer too. He didn’t seem nervous exactly...he seemed watchful, like a predator waiting for the right moment to strike, his fingers drumming lightly against the table.
Ashton seemed nervous, repeatedly taking small sips of water, his fingers wrapped tightly around the glass as though he was afraid of dropping it.
Even though she had no interest in the inheritance, Bella couldn’t help feeling a little uncomfortable knowing that whatever Grandpa William had written could affect all of them.
At one point, Leo quietly leaned closer to her.
"Eat properly," he murmured, his voice low and gentle.
Bella looked at him. "I’m not hungry."
"You’ve barely eaten anything," he said softly, his brow furrowing with concern.
She lowered her voice. "Everyone is looking at me."
Leo glanced across the table. Several eyes immediately moved away. His expression remained completely calm, almost dismissive.
"Let them look," he said simply.
Bella almost smiled. "You make everything sound easy."
"Because it is," he replied, his thumb brushing briefly over her knuckles. He gently placed another piece of food onto her plate. "You’re here for Grandpa, not for them."
Bella looked down at her plate. She nodded and continued eating, though her appetite remained small. The food tasted bland but she knew Leo was right. She wasn’t here to impress anyone or to prove anything. She was here to honour her grandfather’s memory.
Eventually, the dinner came to an end.
The plates were cleared away, the servants quietly left the room and the atmosphere immediately changed. The warmth of the meal faded, replaced by the cool, formal anticipation of what was about to happen. The clatter of dishes disappeared and the soft rustle of papers seemed to fill the empty space.
The lawyer closed the folder he had been reviewing after he had finished dinner and slowly stood.
Everyone’s attention turned towards him.
Jacob straightened in his chair, his eyes sharpening with interest.
Roman placed his glass down with a soft click, his expression turning serious.
Ashton stopped moving completely, his breath catching.
Bella instinctively reached for Leo’s hand beneath the table.
Leo immediately held hers, his fingers warm and steady around hers.
The lawyer looked around the room, his expression becoming serious. His eyes moved from one face to another, taking in the tension, the anticipation, the barely concealed anxiety.
"Now that everyone has finished dinner, I believe it is time."
He carefully pulled the thick folder towards himself.
"I am here to formally announce and explain the final will and testament of the late Mr. William Wilson."
Nobody spoke.
The room became so quiet that Bella could hear the faint ticking of the clock on the wall. Each second seemed to stretch, heavy with anticipation, as though time itself was waiting for what was about to be revealed.
The lawyer looked at each person one by one before continuing.
"I would like everyone to listen carefully until the entire will has been read. There are several conditions and instructions that Mr. Wilson personally included, and I would prefer that nobody interrupt until I have finished explaining them."
Jacob exchanged a quick glance with Roman.
Bella simply lowered her eyes, her grip on Leo’s hand tightening.
The lawyer opened the folder. His fingers rested against the first page.
Then he looked up once more.
"Mr. William Wilson made it very clear that this was not merely a distribution of his wealth."
His voice became quieter.
"He wanted his final wishes to be understood."
Bella’s heart tightened at those words.
For a moment, she could almost hear Grandpa William’s voice again.
She swallowed, her throat tight. Her hand squeezed Leo’s beneath the table, drawing strength from his presence.
The lawyer turned the first page.
"Let us begin."
And the entire family waited in silence.
