An Elder-Level Powerhouse named Marveth arrives at a devastated island, furious that his only relative was killed. He investigates the explosion site but finds no clues. Another Elder-Level Powerhouse, Muriel, arrives and informs him that patrol teams have also vanished without a trace. They suspect the Mage Union is responsible, and Marveth agrees to help Muriel transport captured wizards.

Forbidden Island

In the control room, I massaged my temples while looking in the mirror. Things were getting out of hand.

I was looking for a way to rescue Elder Erwin, but these people had made the decision to transfer the imprisoned wizards to another prison on the main island.

He had also obtained crucial information: the wizards on the island were not under any magic spell restrictions, but once they were brought to that place, she would cast a magic spell on them.

A cold glint appeared in my eyes. The Elder-level powerhouses were stronger than I had thought, and they harbored immense hatred toward the Mage Union.

If they knew a Supreme Wizard from one of the magic towers under the Mage Union had taken action against them, their reactions would surely be worth watching.

I shook my head to clear out the unnecessary thoughts. I had to find a way to rescue Forbidden Wizard Erwin, but I could not do that inside the underground prison.

I had to go back to the prison island. When the realization dawned on me, I felt it was the right decision.

Swoosh!

Just before I could even think of leaving, I saw someone appear outside. The person was none other than Elder Wizard Muriel.

She landed on the previous spot and began to check the surroundings. My heart skipped a beat.

Outside

"If it’s not space magic, then what is it?" Muriel muttered to herself.

She could see the mana layer in the environment; the colorful layers had not been disturbed. They were harmonious and quiet, showing that the area had remained peaceful.

She had wondered if the enemy could be a powerful space wizard, but the chances of that were low.

Now that she saw the calm environment, she sighed in relief. The last thing they wanted was to fight an Elder-level wizard who could use space magic.

Swoosh!

She then departed from the area.

In the control room, I sat down on the ground. Small beads of sweat appeared on my forehead.

I had been so close to stepping outside; if I had bumped into her, I would have been captured. What was worse, my secrets could have been exposed.

I massaged my temples again. Then, thinking of the system, I felt a surge of slight anger.

"System, why didn’t you warn me?" I asked.

[Ding! The Elder-level wizard used a powerful artifact to conceal her presence, which is beyond my current capabilities.]

[Ding! The host must find special relics to upgrade the system.]

Hearing the system’s voice in my mind, I was dumbfounded. I realized the system was growing alongside me. I would have to find those special relics soon.

After gathering my thoughts, I stood up. My gaze fell upon the mirror once more. I had a feeling that Elder Marveth was no ordinary figure either.

If Elder Muriel had sensed something amiss and returned to check the area twice, he would likely do the same.

[Ding! An Elder-level wizard is approaching the area.]

I heard the system’s reminder this time. Moments later, I saw Elder Marveth land on the ground.

It seemed he lacked a powerful magic artifact to conceal his presence, which only went to show how terrifying Elder Muriel truly was. No wonder she was the head of the prison island.

Outside

Marveth checked the area just as she had. He saw no disturbance in the surroundings; the mana layers remained calm. If anyone had used a magic spell or space layers to travel, the fabric would have been disrupted.

That was why the Elder-level powerhouses on the island maintained a mutual agreement not to use space layers for travel, it could destroy vital clues.

Now confident that the area was clear, he decided to set out for the prison island. Since he had agreed to help her, he chose to act immediately.

More than just lending a hand, he wanted to uncover the enemy’s identity. If it turned out to be a foe from the Mage Union, they would all need to assemble.

Swoosh!

He vanished an instant later.

In the control room, I steadied my racing heart. If I wasn’t mistaken, Elder Marveth was heading toward the prison island. I had to go there as well.

A few minutes later, I emerged outside and turned back toward the shore, flying at a low altitude to evade the wizards’ sight.

The system had cloaked my mana signature, preventing anyone from discerning my true strength. As I traversed the forest, the system alerted me to potential hazards.

Wizard patrols were operating not far off, but they could neither see nor sense me, the dense jungle served as an impenetrable barrier.

An hour later, I returned to the seashore outpost. Wizards occupied the brick building at that hour, but I had no time to engage or capture them.

Instead, I waited for an opening to slip through their perimeter. With no Forbidden Wizard stationed at the post, only Magic Lords, an opportunity soon presented itself for me to slip away undetected.

Swoosh!

Before long, I returned to the lair of the sleeping monster. I flew past the beast without disturbing it; from start to finish, the creature remained entirely oblivious to the intruder, lost deep in slumber.

I kept flying until the shore came into view, but I pressed onward across the water toward the prison island without slowing down.

An hour later, I drew near the island’s perimeter. I used the system to verify that no wizards were stationed outside the barrier.

Thud!

I touched down on the ground and crept toward the barrier, waiting for a patrol wizard to arrive. It did not take long for one to appear.

I swiftly knocked him unconscious, seized the black scroll from his grasp, and stowed him away inside the system space.

Using the black scroll, I slipped through the barrier. Fortunately, having visited the location before, I knew the routes by heart.

I made my way toward the cluster of brick buildings. Whenever patrol wizards crossed my path, I concealed myself inside the mansion, only stepping back out once they had moved on.

I repeated the tactic twice before finally arriving at the brick building.

From here, things would be much easier. There was an established rule that no one should approach the entrance to the underground prison cell.
