The protagonist observes from a control room as the Covenant investigates the death of Head Richard on Forbidden Island. While the core members and senior wizards search for clues, the protagonist gathers valuable intelligence. Meanwhile, within a system space, a brutal slaughter of imprisoned wizards takes place, with two monsters consuming the bodies. As the senior wizards attempt to leave the investigation site, a sudden, powerful attack strikes them, leaving their fate uncertain. A mysterious figure in black wizard robes then appears, causing shock among the core members.

Forbidden Island

The black-dressed wizard looked young in appearance. He might be considered one of the supreme wizards and a next-generation talent.

But the black stripes on the mage robes told otherwise.

The person looked around. His gaze swept across the crowd, then fell upon the five senior figures. They were all dead now, unable to answer his questions.

"Everyone, leave this place," he commanded the people standing nearby.

Swoosh!

The next second, everyone fled the area. Forbidden Wizards, Magic Lords, and Supreme Wizards scrambled away in terror, like children escaping a strict teacher.

They did not dare anger an Elder-Level Powerhouse; they were not that foolish.

Upon seeing the black stripes running across his mage robes, they knew he was one of the twelve Elder-Level Powerhouses. The last thing they wanted to do was anger their superior.

Once everyone was gone, the youthful-looking Elder-Level Powerhouse directed his mental power toward the explosion site. He wanted to carefully analyze whether any clues had been left behind.

Anyone looking at him right then would have seen the visible fury on his face. Had he not been restraining himself, he would have unleashed his magic spells immediately.

Such an act would have led to a catastrophe. The spell attacks of an Elder-Level Powerhouse were destructive enough to obliterate the entire island.

The last thing anyone wanted was for their hideout to be wiped out. While observing the surroundings, the young Elder-Level Powerhouse frowned.

It was not because of the blast site itself, but because he could sense other Elder-Level Powerhouses keeping a watchful eye on him.

If he went berserk, it would affect them as well, and he had no desire to be ganged up on by a group of fellow Elder-Level Powerhouses. Still, his inner rage was palpable.

"Who attacked my only relative in this world?"

"It’s impossible for him to have committed suicide," the powerhouse muttered to himself. As far as he knew, he was completely alone.

Yet, he had no idea that someone was patiently listening in on him.

Inside the control room, my eyes went wide. The information was overwhelming. A random core member I had captured turned out to be the sole relative of an Elder-Level Powerhouse!

Who could have guessed that? I shook my head. Since the deed was already done, nothing could change it now. However, I was glad knowing this would spark internal friction among the Elder-Level Powerhouses.

I continued to observe him.

Outside

The man wasted half an hour searching, but found nothing. The situation deeply puzzled him.

Before arriving here, he had already inspected two unguarded posts without discovering a single trace of trespassing. That was why he had expected to find answers here, only to be disappointed once again.

There were no clues at all. Perplexed, the young-looking Elder-Level Powerhouse remained standing there.

Just then, a black dot appeared on the horizon, rapidly approaching the site. In the blink of an eye, the figure resolved into a female wizard.

Thud!

She landed beside the young wizard. It was none other than the Elder-Level Powerhouse Muriel.

"Oh, Marveth. What are you doing here?"

"Engaging in some self-contemplation?" Muriel asked with a smirk.

Hearing that, the veins on Marveth’s forehead bulged. He was well aware of the crazy old woman’s motives; she had come merely to provoke him.

She was likely thrilled by the current circumstances, as it meant she could acquire more wizards to imprison in her island cells.

Noticing Marveth’s mounting temper, Muriel decided not to push him over the edge. If he were provoked into unleashing his magic, others might seize the opportunity to turn against her as well.

"Alright, calm down. I heard what happened. Your only relative died under mysterious circumstances, and we still don’t know the cause of the explosion. On top of that, more than two patrol teams were just reported missing."

"So this was no accident," Muriel stated solemnly.

Hearing this, Marveth’s anger subsided slightly. In his grief, he had forgotten about the missing patrols. Richard had gone out to search for them, which ultimately resulted in his death.

"What happened to them?"

"Have their bodies been found?" he asked.

Muriel shook her head. "They literally vanished into thin air. There were no signs of a struggle or any clues left behind."

Marveth was stunned. He knew the patrol teams consisted of Forbidden Wizards and Magic Lords, all of whose minds had been sealed with restrictions.

It was impossible for ordinary Magic Lords or Forbidden Wizards to overwhelm them so cleanly. As the realization hit him, he turned toward Elder Muriel.

"Was this the work of an Elder-Level Powerhouse?" he asked.

Muriel’s eyes glinted.

"It’s a strong possibility. We haven’t uncovered a single trace so far, and only powerful wizards at the Elder Level could pull off something like this," she replied.

"Does that mean the Mage Union has made its move?" Marveth pressed.

Muriel’s expression grew even more solemn.

"It isn’t confirmed yet. We need to hear the opinions of others," she said.

"We can’t afford to wait. If the Mage Union is targeting us, we must prepare immediately," Marveth said coldly.

He stared out toward the horizon. Clearly, when weighed against his deep hatred for the Mage Union, the loss of life meant little to him.

Muriel noted the shift in his demeanor.

"I’m going to transport the captive wizards to the main island, but I need assistance," she said. "I’m in the middle of an experiment, so you take charge of escorting them down to the underground cells."

"Once I finish my work, I’ll place restrictions on their minds so they can be deployed to the guard posts," she added.

After listening to her request, Marveth agreed to cooperate.

"I’ll help you," he said.

Muriel smiled. That was the sole reason she had sought him out; she needed an extra hand.

Their border checkpoints were too fragile, and several wizards had already disappeared without a trace.

Swoosh!

The two promptly departed, completely unaware that their entire conversation had been overheard.
