Caitlin incapacitates Magic Lord Duncan with her golden brush, allowing the protagonist to interrogate him for information about the Black Tower's involvement with a dangerous organization. The protagonist decides not to dismantle Duncan's operation, fearing the Black Tower's elders. Meanwhile, other Magic Lords, including Boris, Lars, and Sergei, plan to target Duncan's hospital first, believing it will weaken the city's defenses.

Darkmoon City

Magic Lord Gaston and City Lord Conrad were conducting the investigation. They were carrying out their search one area after another.

They were not in a hurry. Gaston thought that the people were hiding. If they made any move, their whereabouts would be easily exposed.

So they were taking their time. Gaston believed that eventually he would find them.

Meanwhile,

I reached the city gate. Instead of using the same method, I decided to leave through the gate.

If I used the previous method of escaping through the watchtower, the city lord could be alerted again.

But I saw there were some people who were ready to leave the city in vehicles. I quietly entered one of the vehicles. There were still people waiting to enter.

They were waiting outside, talking and chatting with their friends.

Swoosh!

I appeared inside the system space. I saw Magic Lord Duncan in a worse condition. His body looked bloodied. He was lying unconscious on the ground with very little breath left.

It appeared Lady Caitlin had collected enough information. I turned toward her. She was sitting on a chair.

But when my gaze fell on the old man and the others, they were dead. I raised my eyebrows.

Caitlin said, "I tried to collect as much information as possible, but they had lost too much blood. They bled to death."

"Did you find anything useful?" I asked.

"These wizards didn’t know anything new. But Magic Lord Duncan revealed some shocking news," Caitlin said.

Hearing that, I was ready to listen.

She took a deep breath before saying, "Apparently, the higher-ups of the Black Tower knew about the Covenant. Even their Elder-level powerhouses knew about it. But they didn’t make it public for some reason."

"He thinks the Mage Union knew about the Covenant as well, but everyone was made to work," she added.

My heart stirred. Why did it sound logical? It was because the Black Tower conducts a lot of activities in unknown dark territory.

It was possible for them to discover the news earlier. There was also another reason which I thought was more likely: the higher-ups in the Mage Union may have known about the Covenant from the beginning.

But they hadn’t made it public yet. They had a lot of resources to find out the truth. For example, a powerful Fate Wizard could find the answer.

Then why did they dispatch the Magic Towers to investigate the place? The more news I received, the more I thought that the Mage Union was hiding something from the Magic Towers.

"Okay, there is no need to collect further intel." After saying that, I brought her to the Gregor Mansion.

"Are you going toward the next city?" she asked.

"No, I’m going back to the Magic City. I am done with the investigation," I replied.

Caitlin nodded her head. She too felt the Mage Union was playing a big game. She then returned to her room.

I brought the Zero Puppet into the system space. Then I looted the collection of Magic Lord Duncan.

Similarly, I collected the valuables from the old Supreme Wizard and the others. They were clearly dead.

When it came to Magic Lord Duncan, I hesitated whether to kill him or not. Though there was only a slight breath left in him, he could still survive.

Suddenly, I thought of the crimson scroll artifact. I could still use the crimson scroll artifact one more time.

I took the crimson scroll out and held it in my hand. I was pondering whether it was the right decision or not. What if he was exposed in the future?

I shook my head. Then I pushed away the doubts. He could be the first member to work on the outside. He would collect intel for me while handling his affairs in the Black Tower.

Maybe I could learn more about the Mage Union from him. If I asked Elder Dana and the others in the Silver Tower, they would definitely help me.

But I thought it was better to collect information on my own. I wanted to know what the Mage Union was up to. I needed to find the relics and treasures needed for gravity magic.

I could use him in the future. Then I poured my mana into the crimson scroll artifact. The crimson scroll artifact was activated.

The next second, a red light shot out from the artifact and entered the body of Magic Lord Duncan. His mana core was quickly covered in crimson chains.

Another red light appeared from the crimson scroll artifact and entered my mind. It was the 7th crimson orb, and the previous one was Lady Caitlin.

Sigh!

A sigh escaped my mouth. Earlier, I had wanted him dead. But some of the truths revealed by him had shocked me. It made me realize that he would be useful if he remained alive.

"Wake him up," I said to the Zero Puppet.

Then I put away the crimson scroll artifact inside the system space. After that, I took out a healing potion.

Magic Lord Duncan woke up, but he was still feeling the searing pain. He remembered being interrogated by the old lady. He had even revealed everything.

Suddenly, he found some changes in his body, especially in his mana core. When he paid attention, he saw the crimson chains covering the mana core.

"What is this?" Duncan asked.

"You are now under my control," I said to him.

Hearing the young voice again, he was alerted. He turned around and saw the same person.

"What are you doing here?" Duncan asked.

"I’m your master now. If you betray me or try to reveal any secrets, your mana core will be exposed. You will die along with it," I said to him.

"No," Duncan uttered. But he felt a terrible pain in his mana core; it was being burned by the crimson chains.

The pain was unbearable. He understood the situation, it was better than dying. Only then did he feel the crimson chains stop hurting his mana core.

He didn’t know whether there was a way to undo it. The moment he thought about it, the crimson chains burned his mana core again.

Aaahhh!

He screamed due to the heart-wrenching pain again.
