General Wizard Market
We continued to wait under the big shade tree. I closed my eyes and leaned against the chair. Seeing that the Master was resting, Hank decided to keep watch.
He was worried that the backer behind the five old men might come. But when he thought of the Master’s background, his expression eased.
Meanwhile,
Market Leader Katie got back to her office. She quickly informed her higher-ups about the death of the five old men.
Silence!
The higher-ups went silent. Their silence shocked her. Her worst fears had come to light: the old men must have had a powerful background.
"Did you find out the identity of the masked man and his men?" an old woman asked on the call.
There were other elders connected to the same call as well.
Katie collected her thoughts.
She said, "I don’t know yet. But the masked man was not afraid of retaliation. What’s more, I think he didn’t take our wizard market seriously."
Gasp!
A surprised exclamation occurred on the call. It had been a long time since they had met someone with such audacity.
"How dare he?"
"You should have arrested him then and there!" an elder shouted in an angry voice.
"I don’t know how he killed those wizards without any sign of spell attacks used on them. If he wanted to, he could have killed me easily," Katie said in a serious tone.
Silence!
Hearing that, there was silence again. The elders were discussing among themselves, but she could not hear a thing.
Then the old woman’s voice sounded.
"The five old men were from the unknown dark territory. That’s why we allowed them to set up a stall here and turned a blind eye to their activities."
"Find out information on the visitors. If anyone comes in search of the five old men, we will need that information," she added.
Hearing that, Katie agreed. The other elders on the call agreed as well. They didn’t want to offend either side.
After the end of the discussion, Katie left the office. She thought of the other members of the masked man’s team. She had patrol guards keeping an eye on them.
She called a few patrol guards and learned their current locations. They had spotted three people in different areas of the market.
She decided to tail one of them, but not the Magic Lord.
Meanwhile,
The old woman at the book stall was pondering deeply. She had a once in a lifetime opportunity in front of her. She had long since given up hope of living further.
She had even stopped dreaming about the Forbidden Wizard level long ago. She only wanted to spend her remaining time quietly in the market.
She hadn’t expected someone to offer her such an opportunity. She realized the masked man was not ordinary; she had already seen through his disguise.
She was shocked to discover that the masked man was a young man, yet his strength had already reached the Supreme Wizard. It would only be a matter of time before he became a Magic Lord.
Then he would have an even greater opportunity to become a Forbidden Wizard. A lost hope rekindled in her heart.
She realized that the background of the masked man was not ordinary either. Which force could produce such a young Supreme? She could only think of the Magic City and the surrounding satellite cities.
That region was filled with many wizard organizations and wizard families. She thought the masked man had to be from there.
She didn’t even think of the Magic Towers. For her, that was an even higher ladder. Wizards of the Magic Towers were rarely seen outside that region, so such a thought didn’t even cross her mind.
Finally, she convinced herself. At her advanced age, it was rare to come across such a magical opportunity.
She was only given this chance because of her Magic Lord strength. She didn’t know what the masked man was planning.
If he wanted her to use her Magic Lord strength against his enemies, she wouldn’t mind. But before that, she had to verify his background.
Fortunately, the masked man had said that he was going to wait under the big tree. She decided to meet him in the evening.
....
In the temporary hideout of the Covenant, Amaira and the others had gathered.
"Tim is dead. The higher-ups confirmed it. The restriction placed in the depths of his mind was triggered. I don’t have to say what happened to him next," the Senior Wizard said.
Hearing that, low exclamations rippled through the room.
"The restriction must have blown up his head. The people who caught him must have been surprised," one of the members said.
Hearing that, the others laughed. Clearly, there was no remorse for their team member’s death. It didn’t affect them or the mission in any way.
A few members still pondered the situation. They wanted to know who had caused his death, because they could be next on the list.
Amaira’s eyes flashed with a glint. She didn’t know who had caught him. City Lord Robert had been attacked right in front of their eyes and had been recovering ever since.
So who could it be? She began to recall the names of other important figures in the city.
"It’s no laughing matter. Any of us could be next. The higher-ups are disappointed. Many of our wizards are dying before the organization has even revealed itself."
"Now one from our team has died. The higher-ups want revenge against the killer," the Senior Wizard said.
"But we don’t know the killer. The City Lord was attacked right in front of our eyes and was immediately taken away by his people," one of the members said.
The Senior Wizard frowned, lost in thought as well. His gaze swept across the members and stopped on Amaira.
Seeing that Amaira was deep in thought, he waited a moment before asking, "Amaira, did you find out anything?"
"Senior, I remember the City Guard Captain offending some visitors from outside. They were all Supreme Wizards, and one of them was a Magic Lord," Amaira replied.
