Appraiser Frank appraises a bracelet made of special metals and a wooden statue imbued with magic. He also gathers intelligence on visiting Supreme Wizards while dealing with the unexpected arrival of City Lord Robert, whose mask reminds him of the city's serial killer. Frank offers free appraisals to Robert and the Auction Manager, Lara, who presents an old book.

Auction House

City Lord Robert retrieved the wooden statue. Then it was time for the Manager to have her item appraised.

Manager Lara said, "It’s been in our family’s possession for a long time. I haven’t tried to get it appraised by anyone else."

"After learning that you were holding this event, I brought this item from my family," Lara added.

I nodded and took the old book. I noticed that the book was made of old paper. I opened it and flipped through a few pages.

I saw that the words were written in an ancient magic language. I managed to gather some information even without using the system.

I used the system’s probe function again.

[Ding! Old ledger detected.]

Hearing that, my eyes flickered. I began flipping through the pages from the start, using the system to scan the information.

I realized it belonged to a wizard from a few hundred years ago. It was his account book, and it contained lost knowledge. However, I didn’t let my expression show it.

Magic Lord Robert and the Manager were shocked. They thought Appraiser Frank could actually read and understand the ancient language, genuinely surprised by what seemed to be his exclusive knowledge.

A few minutes later, I spoke to her. "It took me a bit longer than I thought, mainly because I recognized the language written inside."

The female manager was excited, eager to know what was written in it.

I saw right through her thoughts.

I said, "I know you’re excited, but most of the words written in the old book have been erased. I can only decipher a portion of it. I managed to learn that it’s a kind of personal ledger."

"What?" the Manager uttered in surprise.

"It’s true. Unfortunately, I cannot fully decipher it," I told them. I saw the disappointment in City Lord Robert’s eyes.

In truth, that was a lie. I had already recorded the information, but I was afraid I would put the Manager’s life at risk if I revealed it.

"This information is enough. At least I came to know what my family ancestor carried," the Manager said.

I nodded to her. We spoke for a few more minutes until City Lord Robert checked the time, preparing to leave.

He had planned to make his rounds tonight. Thinking of something, he asked, "Appraiser Frank, what are you planning to do tonight?"

Taken aback by the question, I realized that while I had planned to start the event in the morning, I hadn’t thought about when to end it.

I replied, "I plan to stay here through the night as well."

Robert smiled and said, "Good. Then I’ll send a few officials for protection. So many bad things happen at night, and I want your team to be safe."

"Thanks a lot," I said.

"If possible, I’ll stay here too," the Manager offered.

"There’s no need for that. You’ve already spent the entire day here. I don’t want to trouble you through the night as well," I told her.

She was convinced. The two of them stood up and left the room.

Seeing that the break was over, I told Otto to send in the next guests.

Time passed.

One by one, the guests met with me, had their items appraised, and paid their fees before leaving the auction house.

Otto and the others were managing the crowd outside. Somehow, news of the event had reached the media houses, which were now gathered outside the building.

Taking a break from reporting on the recent murders, they finally had something new to cover. People watching at home breathed a sigh of relief.

Everyone wanted to catch a glimpse of Appraiser Frank and his team. From time to time, team members appeared outside to manage the crowd.

They were broadcast live, but the reporters couldn’t catch a glimpse of Appraiser Frank himself. Instead, they dug up old footage of him and displayed it on screen.

When locals and other viewers saw the masked man on screen, they were taken aback, as it reminded them of the terror plaguing the city.

However, no one dared suspect him. The news anchor had already confirmed his identity: since he worked for the Supreme Wizard of the Silver Tower, no one believed he would commit such acts.

There was no need for them to rely on tracking methods. If the Magic City Wizards were enraged, they could easily wipe out the entire city, so no one suspected him in the end.

Instead, people were simply curious about what was happening inside the auction house.

Time passed.

When night fell, an unknown danger blanketed the city. Everyone was afraid to step outside, especially small and medium-sized families, who were the most terrified.

Fearing they would be targeted by enemies again, they stopped going out at night. Even small businesses that usually operated late had shut down.

Only essential businesses remained open, bound by orders they couldn’t afford to ignore.

Meanwhile, the covenant waited for nightfall. They became active once more, having already engaged in looting and plundering. Since the city was vast, many targets remained.

Amaira left her place as well, ready to execute her plan and repeat what the Captain of the City Guard had done.

What they didn’t know was that City Lord Robert was going to act tonight. As a Magic Lord, he could easily sense the presence of Supreme Wizards.

Earlier, City Lord Robert had obtained a list of Supreme Wizards staying in the city and memorized their faces and names.

If he encountered any unfamiliar faces, he was determined to interrogate them.

On the other hand, the City Guard Captain had gone completely mad.

He had committed terrible crimes and killed many people, yet still failed to achieve his goals because he had severely underestimated the identity of the Magic Tower people.

He is going to do even more killings today. He will do it until someone from the City Lord office takes action against the visitors.
