The City Guard Captain, Roger, was influenced by a spell to seek revenge. He infiltrated a factory and brutally murdered twenty workers, leaving a note signed "Masked Man" to frame them. Meanwhile, a zero puppet explored the City Lord's office, gathering information. The gruesome murders were discovered, and authorities, recognizing the supreme-level mana pressure used, attributed the killings to the "Masked Man," causing widespread fear and media attention.

Hotel

In the hotel, I was having a conversation with the Zero Puppet right when I came across the breaking news. The news stunned me.

Because the mark left by the killer was "Masked Man."

Why did it feel like it was related to me? I frowned. Then I turned towards the Zero Puppet. The puppet had spent the whole night in the City Lord’s office and nearby places.

But it didn’t find anything. It was best to let the Zero Puppet find the killer.

"Zero, I want to know who the killer is. If you find him, then don’t engage. First, share the information with me," I said to the puppet.

"Okay, Master," the Zero Puppet replied.

At the same time, I thought of the eight Supreme Wizards who entered the city. I had not seen them enter the city.

But their target was rich businesses in the city. So I thought they must be hiding in the city right now. If not for the mark left by the killer, I would have sent the Zero Puppet to find them.

Swoosh!

Next, the Zero Puppet transformed into a red smoke form and left through the window.

Seeing that, I decided to act as well. I left the room and went to meet the members. They were all ready to explore the city again.

"Master."

Everyone greeted me. I nodded to them in response.

"I want you guys to pay a visit to the local auction house. I’m planning to offer an appraisal service here," I said to them.

Otto was taken aback.

Patrick, Hank, and old man Rock were surprised as well. Their reactions didn’t go unnoticed.

"If we stay here any longer, it will raise questions. We already crossed paths with the City Lord yesterday. We need a reason to stay here," I said.

Hearing that, they understood.

"Okay, Master. We will try to convince the auction house. I’m sure they will be ready after knowing your identity," Patrick said.

"Okay," I replied.

Next, I went back to the room.

The members left the hotel a few minutes later. They went towards the city auction house.

...

Meanwhile,

Multiple businesses were affected last night. But they were not main news like the killings. It was the work of others from the Covenant.

Everyone was acting separately. Some were plundering the weak stores. There were others who collected information. But none of them knew about Amaira’s activities.

Even the seniors among them didn’t have a clue.

On the other hand, the City Guard Captain didn’t go to duty today. He had asked for leave.

The city guards knew the situation, so they didn’t discuss it further. Whereas Roger was actually planning his next attack.

He was going to carry out the attack tonight again. The spell effect had worn off, but he wasn’t satisfied with his revenge yet.

He wanted the City Lord and the visitors to fight each other. He had left behind a clue at the site.

The news channels had recorded it. Roger didn’t know whether the City Lord was associated with the visitors.

He was angry. He would continue to target the workers until the City Lord took action. He knew the City Lord might avoid the visitors unless the city was disturbed.

Meanwhile,

Amaira successfully cast a magic spell on a few more people. She instigated them to target the businesses at night.

Using the City Guard Captain was one of her ideas. She meant to use other people as well. The visitors had become an indirect target.

...

City Auction House

Otto and the others reached the city auction house. Currently, no auction was taking place, so the massive auction hall was empty.

They came across the manager of the place and started their discussion. The manager was a female wizard. She became respectful upon learning their strength.

She brought them to her office and had a detailed discussion there. She became more respectful knowing that they were from Crystal City.

As the manager of the auction house here, she followed the news related to her field. So she knew about Crystal City.

When she learned that Appraiser Frank had come to the city, she was shocked to the core. She was aware of basic information as well.

She knew that Appraiser Frank and the others were working for Supreme Wizard Vincent, who was from the Silver Tower.

She then heard their request. Knowing that Appraiser Frank was offering an appraisal service for a price, as he had done in the previous city as well and now wanted to do it here, the manager was more than happy to help.

She would get a commission as well.

So she agreed and started to negotiate the commission fees.

Otto and the others were glad that things worked out for them. The manager didn’t make things difficult for them. The meeting ended soon.

They had booked the auction house for an entire day. They could start their work tomorrow.

...

The Zero Puppet in its red smoke form was looking out for the killer. First, it went to the killing site. There were officials present at the place, and they didn’t allow others to wander around.

The red smoke sneaked in easily. It arrived at the site and began to investigate the place. The puppet was also recording the conversations between the officials.

The Zero Puppet didn’t find evidence of a magic spell here. It came to the conclusion that the workers died from mana pressure as well.

Next, it left the place and went to a remote area to continue the search. The puppet was going to look for the Supreme Wizard in the remote area of the city.

The remote area of the city had many residential buildings. The puppet didn’t have to enter the buildings; it was just moving past the structures.

But every time it did, it scanned the entire structure. It didn’t find a single Supreme Wizard or above.

The Zero Puppet did come across illegal activities like internal fights, but they were all low-level wizards not connected to the crime.

The Zero Puppet continued roaming the area.
