Gravity Mage with Level-Up System Chapter 1927: Part 1: Fending off the attacks
Previously on Gravity Mage with Level-Up System...
The Montex Ship
A sense of fury emanated from the 12th Order Octopus as it launched another tentacle attack. A further appendage emerged from the ocean's depths, striking the ship directly.
Witnessing this, the passengers quickly retreated from the ship's edges. Including myself, everyone moved back as the violent waves sent tremors through the vessel.
I remained uncertain about the ship's defensive capabilities. How long could the shimmering blue barrier withstand such assaults?
Boom!
The monstrous tentacles slammed against the blue layer once more, accompanied by a resounding crash. Yet, the protective barrier held firm against the impact.
A collective sigh of relief swept through the passengers. However, the battle was far from concluded. The ship pressed onward, its forward momentum carrying it through the onslaught. The sea shark monsters' attacks were effectively nullified by the persistent blue layer.
If this protective barrier were to falter, each individual would face the necessity of engaging in combat. Consequently, everyone was conserving their energy, awaiting a more opportune moment.
Time marched on.
Old Man Gary had been vigilantly observing the surrounding sea. While aware of the 12th Order Octopus, his attention was not captured by it.
Instead, his focus remained fixed on the shark monster positioned ahead. The 12th Order Shark Monster had yet to reveal its full capabilities or engage in any direct action.
This unusual quietude from Old Man Gary left the passengers bewildered. Several moments had passed since the engagement had seemingly paused, with only the protective blue layers of the airship offering them sanctuary.
Boom!
The octopus monster periodically continued its assault on the blue layer. Eventually, the attacks ceased as the airship sailed out of its territorial waters.
This turn of events surprised everyone aboard. Meanwhile, I utilized a system function to ascertain the reason behind the octopus's withdrawal.
[Ding! The 12th Order Giant Octopus will not venture beyond its established territory.]
The system's notification echoed in my mind, causing a ripple of understanding to stir within me.
My eyes gleamed with newfound clarity. It became apparent why the giant octopus had not pursued us further. My attention then shifted to the other formidable presence, the 12th Order Monster.
The Sea Shark remained inactive, allowing its lower-ranking brethren to barrage the ship.
"Everyone, prepare your attacks," Old Man Gary's voice commanded, reaching every corner of the ship.
Upon hearing this directive, the passengers responded with alacrity, readying their magic spells.
With the blue layer finally deactivated, the mages stationed on the deck promptly raised their hands, initiating their spellcasting.
Multiple magic circles materialized in the air, unleashing a barrage of elemental attacks.
Boom!
One after another, the elemental projectiles struck the shark monsters encircling the airship. The lesser shark monsters were disintegrated by the sheer force of the onslaught.
Their physical forms were utterly incapable of withstanding such power. The elemental energy ripped through their bodies with devastating effect.
The seawater around the vessel transformed into a grim crimson hue.
Concurrently, I employed the system to scan the immediate vicinity. My intent was to avoid expending magic on the low-ranking sea monsters.
My objective was to locate 11th Order Sea Monsters, as confronting a 12th Order Sea Monster was currently beyond my capabilities.
Boom!
The 12th Order Sea Monster finally made its move. A colossal wave surged towards the ship, a monstrous wall of water towering over two hundred meters.
Should this immense wave make contact with the ship, its destruction was a near certainty, and the crew faced the grave risk of drowning.
All offensive magic spellcasting ceased instantly. The passengers stood frozen, their faces etched with shock and profound terror at the sight of the colossal wave.
Old Man Gary stood resolutely at the ship's helm. He refrained from using a magic spell, mindful that the concussive force could destabilize the moving vessel.
Any damage to the ship would endanger everyone aboard. Even possessing flight abilities, traversing the endless ocean would take an immeasurable amount of time.
Therefore, Old Man Gary made a critical decision. As the monstrous wave bore down upon the ship, he released his potent coercion, directing it forward.
Boom!
In the blink of an eye, a subtle pressure was felt by all, despite the forbidden wizard's coercion being aimed directly ahead.
Boom!
The coercion collided with the sea wave, obliterating it in an instant. The remnants of the wave reformed into smaller surges that impacted the ship.
However, the residual force was minimal. The mages on deck felt the diminished impact and were able to maintain their footing.
Meanwhile, I braced myself firmly on the ground, my stance unwavering. As anticipated, Old Man Gary had a strategic plan. He opted against employing a magic spell, instead utilizing targeted coercion.
The ship continued its steady progress forward.
The 12th Order Sea Shark, now enraged, recognized that a wizard of comparable power was systematically thwarting all its attacks.
A cunning glint appeared in the sea monster's eyes. Possessing intelligence akin to humans, the colossal Shark monster retreated beneath the waves.
It vanished from the sight of all observers.
Old Man Gary appeared momentarily taken aback. He had not anticipated the sea monster conceding at the eleventh hour. Yet, he was acutely aware of the treacherous nature of these sea beasts.
His gaze then swept across the ship's surroundings. No other monsters loitered near the vessel. However, a new concern emerged: one side of the ship remained exposed and unguarded.
He then vanished from his position, heading towards the ship's lowest section. He plunged into the sea, proceeding to the underside of the vessel.
Witnessing this, all aboard the deck were astonished. The mages swiftly moved to the ship's railing to peer down.
I trailed them, arriving at the edge too. Gazing into the depths below, I had no clue about his actions. I activated the system's probe function.
[Ding! A Forbidden Wizard is currently guarding the front underside of the ship.]
The system's announcement echoed in my thoughts. It made sense; the perilous waters teemed with monstrous creatures, necessitating vigilance at the ship's base during the night.
I harbored doubts about monsters appearing in broad daylight.
Time advanced.
Dawn broke. No sea monsters launched an assault throughout the night. As the morning sun emerged, Old Man Gary reappeared on the ship's uppermost deck.
His return brought a collective sigh of relief from everyone. They realized their sole protection was the presence of the Forbidden Wizard onboard.
With him present, they were assured that no monsters would dare attack them.
