That night, I sat in the office when a surprise visitor showed up. It turned out to be Assistant Jonah himself.
A flicker of astonishment appeared in my gaze. Back when I used my true identity, they never showed this much eagerness to meet me.
"Assistant Jonah," I greeted him.
Jonah grinned and took a seat across from me. Spotting the familiar white mask, he couldn’t make out any details.
He spoke up, "Great to have you back, Appraiser Frank. Leader was concerned you’d take forever to finish your tasks."
At those words, I smirked and replied, "I heard about your agreement with Supreme Wizard Vincent."
"Indeed, we struck the deal. But you’re the key player here. Without your appraisal expertise, it wouldn’t succeed," Jonah responded.
"Fine, so what brings you here?" I questioned him.
"We’ve got a bunch of new antique items. Leader Edmund eagerly awaits your presence to verify and appraise them right away," Jonah explained with pressing urgency.
Upon hearing this, I mulled it over. Mornings are packed for me, handling customers all day long.
I can’t linger here forever. Sooner or later, missions will call. Thankfully, Forbidden Wizards Charlotte and Erwin have been understanding.
Others probably wouldn’t grant me such flexible time off.
"I’m tied up. However, if you fetch the items and bring them over, I’ll appraise them during the night. Pick them up in the morning," I suggested.
Jonah lit up with joy at my proposal and quickly agreed. Getting the appraisals done fast meant quicker cash for them.
Once Jonah departed the shop, my eyes turned toward the gallery. Customers browsed the displays inside.
Yet, occasional glances came my way. I could distinguish mere curiosity from deliberate scrutiny.
Probing stares had followed me since dawn. Various factions were likely behind it. Still, I brushed them off—it was inevitable.
By now, word must have spread that Supreme Wizard Vincent had departed and Appraiser Frank had returned.
I shook my head and pulled out my device to check the latest online news. My name had dominated headlines for days.
Things should shift come tomorrow.
…
Flame Elemental Tower
Those at the Flame Elemental Tower kept a sharp watch on the appraisal shop.
After Magic Lord Scott’s failure to uncover banned goods there, they’d lost all credibility.
They observed the Green Elemental Tower’s moves from afar.
With Magic Lord Clint’s exposure, the Green Elemental Tower now suffered a massive blow.
Online backlash and fury toward them exploded. Folks shifted focus, slamming the Green Tower while forgetting the Flame one.
Magic Towers stand as the Mage Union’s foundations. But these pillars clashed instead of uniting—bad news for the Union.
Competition makes sense to everyone. Yet, the Green Elemental Tower’s antics stained the Mage Union’s reputation.
They flouted the rules set by the Union’s top brass.
The Flame Elemental Tower and fellow Towers expected decisive action from the Mage Union.
For unknown reasons, no announcement yet. Magic Lord Clint and his backers would face consequences.
Thus, the Flame Elemental Tower halted operations to avoid the spotlight.
Let the Green Elemental Tower soak up all the negativity for now.
…
Green Elemental Tower
Magic Lord Clint’s escape fueled even greater rage among the higher-ups.
Elders confirmed the Mage Union’s disdain for the damaging publicity surrounding the Green Elemental Tower.
His live exposure left no doubt—no probe needed.
Elders settled on internal penalties, but the Mage Union’s verdict remained pending.
…
Black Tower
Meanwhile, the Black Tower watched events unfold from the shadows.
Elders and Forbidden Wizards monitored the Flame and Green Elemental Towers closely.
No interest in battling the Silver Tower now, fresh off their recent conflict.
They’d endured Mage Union sanctions already. Doesn’t mean rivals stay quiet.
Forbidden Wizard Remi targeted Wizard Vincent Carey, lurking beyond borders to strike him down.
Comrades backed the scheme fully.
Failure would bring identical Mage Union repercussions.
Shockingly, their spies delivered unexpected news. They reported that Wizard Vincent had vanished from the location.
Wizard Vincent was nowhere to be found in the appraisal shop. Appraiser Frank appeared instead, having just come back from his mission.
This revelation stunned everyone. It swiftly made its way to Forbidden Wizard Remi.
Remi was taken aback. Without delay, he departed the city and sped toward the border.
Forbidden Wizard Remi was determined to track down Vincent Carey this time. He refused to let him slip away. The moment he located him, he yearned to seize and eliminate him.
He believed the report to be accurate. No Forbidden Wizards guarded him, in his view. This presented the perfect chance to apprehend him.
...
Meanwhile,
The intelligence spread to other prominent wizard organizations. None foresaw Wizard Vincent vanishing once more.
Folks assumed Wizard Vincent was on another assignment. The local crowd felt let down. They had hoped he would return to the magic arena.
Numerous renowned wizards itched to duel him for glory. Certain families had even deployed Supreme Wizards for the task.
They had anticipated Wizard Vincent's arrival in the Magic City. Yet, the latest update crushed their schemes.
