Crystal City-Shop
I shut the status panel. Rising from my seat, I stepped into the bathroom for a shower. Completing it took only a short while.
10 minutes later,
Afterward, I put on the uniform and the Silver Tower Mage Robe. Once prepared, I stepped outside. Similar to yesterday, I brought the Zero Puppet out with me.
Today, I'm planning to show up publicly. I think everything will go smoothly, but surprises can always happen.
Should the Doyle Family or the Green Elemental Tower be plotting anything, I need to stay alert. They probably have no clue that I'm here yet.
Still, it won't be long before shoppers start spreading word. Especially once they catch sight of me, they won't keep quiet.
I faced the Zero Puppet.
"Today, I’m assigning you a new mission. Check for anyone searching for me. Enemy groups might have spies lurking around here," I instructed the Zero Puppet.
"Okay, master," the Zero Puppet responded.
In the following instant, the Zero Puppet transformed into dark red mist. It slipped out through the window. Now, the Zero Puppet had a fresh assignment.
It was keen to track down one of the master's foes.
With the Zero Puppet departed, I exited the room. This time, I skipped the mask. Reaching the lobby, I noticed customers already present.
My presence immediately caught eyes. I gave a nod to the staff before heading to the gallery room.
"Who is this guy?"
"That badge belongs to the Silver Tower."
"Looks like a Supreme Wizard to me."
"Is he the shop's new owner?"
Gasp!
Customers gasped in shock. They stood stunned, staring at the fresh shop owner.
A few recognized him from online images of Wizard Vincent Carey.
Patrick and Otto exchanged glances. Tension gripped them. They feared trouble from anyone bold enough.
Otto employed his magic power to eavesdrop on talks beyond the building. Old man Rock and Hank mirrored him. They monitored the crowd's reactions closely.
They stood ready to thwart any sudden assaults.
"It's really him, the renowned Silver Tower wizard."
"The magic city will be stunned."
Customers buzzed with comments right away. I acknowledged them with a nod before entering the office. I avoided my usual chair.
Instead, I settled onto the sofa, feigning interest in online news.
Gasp!
A cry of astonishment rang out. No one could believe Wizard Vincent Carey had arrived. They whipped out their devices and began sharing the update.
Otto and Patrick witnessed it all.
"Cough!"
Otto cleared his throat, announcing, "Everyone, settle down and don't disturb the owner. Finish your purchases or services and head out."
Patrick echoed the words. Silence fell over the crowd. They realized it was legitimate. Stirring trouble meant crossing the Silver Tower.
Thus, customers hushed up. Yet, they kept sending news to kin and contacts.
Outside,
Word raced through Crystal City. City officials got wind first. Elder Blake sat in his office.
Shock hit him hard. He was unaware of Supreme Wizard Vincent's departure and arrival. Such a prominent figure had appeared, and he hadn't rushed to greet him.
Moments later, he vacated his office, grabbing a handful of officials.
Meanwhile, the buzz reached Wizard Families and Associations too. Infinite Wizard Association Leader Edmund caught the report.
He was stunned. He'd expected the visit tomorrow, not today. He called Jonah and resolved to meet him immediately.
Appointments didn't faze him. He'd already coordinated with Appraiser Frank, ensuring a smooth encounter with Wizard Vincent.
Likewise, other associations dispatched their leaders and key elders. Wizard Families scrambled as well.
They knew Wizard Vincent's rise—from wizard seed to full member. Now, Vincent Carey's standing had elevated.
Magic Towers wouldn't risk provoking him like in the past.
Meanwhile,
The Zero Puppet's dark red smoke roamed, gathering intel on spies. It had pinpointed them already.
These spies proved to be mere street vendors and restaurant workers. None posed a wizard-level threat worth eliminating.
The Zero Puppet detected wizard family spies too. Doyle Family operatives stood out.
Its database held records of Master Vincent's clash with that wizard family.
It also spotted Green Elemental Tower spies. They'd deployed personnel posing as cab drivers and similar roles, unlike the staff disguises.
....
Silver Tower
Manager Lara remained in the tower. Vincent Carey had called earlier. She knew his public debut loomed.
Curiosity led her to news channels. None covered Vincent Carey's arrival.
Surprise struck her. Still, she trusted Crystal City folks to spread it. Soon, the entire magic city would buzz.
Her mind drifted to Jason Nicholson, Wilfred Cox, and Susan Park. They were absent, tied up on a mission.
She shook her head and resumed her duties.
...
Barrett Family
Holden Barrett stayed in his room. Butler Gideon arrived to relay the latest. He'd been tracking Crystal City updates.
The news involved Wizard Vincent Carey.
"Wizard Vincent Carey appeared at the Appraisal Shop. Crystal City's abuzz. It'll reach us shortly," Gideon informed him.
"He showed up there?" Holden exclaimed, surprised. He'd assumed Vincent Carey was away on a city-external mission.
For he understood that lingering here would draw attacks from various wizard families and Magic Towers.
