The first wave of the Abyssal Invasion began, with demons attacking shelters across the world. Survivors discussed the terrifying nature of demonic corruption and the varying resistances to fire. Asad Seife, a Necromancer, arrived at the allied Ivory Gear Shelter and unleashed his undead army to defend it against Imps and Avarice Demons, successfully repelling the initial assault by daybreak.

Meanwhile, inside the Mist Shelter, the atmosphere wasn’t that lively anymore...

Natalie stood at the battlements with her holy items beside her, while Harper’s reinforcements had already bolstered the defenses.

Of course, the priests lined the walls, with their hands clasped around relics and charms, ready to unleash purification rites the moment corruption touched the gates.

Soon, their chants filled the air, creating a protective aura across the defenders.

But before the demons could even approach, the shelter’s arsenal roared to life.

"This..."

Natalie and Travis were in awe...

The Arcflinger Repeaters mounted along the walls spat out charged bolts in semi‑auto bursts!

Soon, streaks of elemental energy chained between clustered Imps!

Aaahhh!

The creatures shrieked as fire, ice, and shock tore through their ranks. In just a few moments, bodies started collapsing before they could leap the barriers.

On the ground, squads armed with Boomblade Lances braced for impact.

Whenever an Avarice Demon moved closer, the lances struck with piercing precision, detonating inside their armored hides.

Explosions echoed across the battlefield, scattering demonic flesh into ash.

Aside from them, the Warden Units formed disciplined firing lines, unleashing synchronized volleys that shredded advancing beasts!

"Those Wardens are as good as I heard."

Their spirit‑infused rounds burned through corrupted tissue, leaving no chance for regeneration...

Above them, automated turrets rotated with incredible precision... They were raining steel bolts and explosive rounds into the horde.

Every road or pathway leading toward the shelter was layered with traps... spiked pits, collapsing barriers, and rune‑etched mines that detonated in bursts of purifying light.

And towering near the gate, the Trident Mechs unleashed devastating spirit blasts.

Their cannons hummed with condensed energy, firing beams that vaporized entire clusters of demons. Each strike drained ammunition reserves, but the defenders pressed on.

"Aside from using Holy Items... I guess overpowering them with Spirit-Infused Weapons was a good option."

The demons tried to push forward, but every attempt was met with overwhelming firepower.

Those who managed to stagger closer slammed against shimmering barriers, unable to breach the protective wards.

Priests raised their relics, purging corruption from wounded soldiers and reinforcing the barriers with holy light.

Natalie’s voice then rang out above the chaos. "Do not stop! Keep the momentum ours!"

It was costly... ammunition stocks dwindled, spirit cores burned faster than expected, and the mechs required constant recalibration.

But none of that mattered now. The defenders understood that hesitation meant death. They had to crush the first wave before it gained traction.

Hours passed in a relentless rhythm of firing, detonations, and chants.

The battlefield outside Mist Shelter became a graveyard of demons, their corpses piled high, scorched by elemental bolts and shattered by explosive lances.

The priests, though weary, continued their chants, ensuring no corruption seeped past the walls.

By dawn, the defenders stood victorious.

The Mist Shelter had not only survived, but it had dominated.

"This is only the first day... This event lasts for three days. I’m sure that this is just a warm-up." Travis muttered as he felt that this first day was quite forgiving.

Of course, with so much ammunition spent, the air was already thick with smoke and the scent of burned flesh, but morale was still high since there were basically zero casualties.

It’s true that they used a lot of resources just now, but since they were getting cores, and various loots from them, it was definitely worth it!

Harper’s reinforcements had proven invaluable, but it was the unity of every defense... machines, mechs, priests, and survivors that secured their triumph.

Ammunition could be replenished. Spirit Stones could be mined.

What mattered was that the demons had been crushed before they could gain momentum.

"Focus on looting! Do it quickly!"

"If you’re unlucky. Don’t loot them! Just let the others do it! Hahaha!"

"Hey! That’s unfair! Maybe we just need more attempts to get lucky!"

"Fine! Do it fast! If you’re not getting any good loot for five or ten times, then let the others do it!"

"Great! Let me!"

"Me too!"

Just like that, everyone enthusiastically looted the various Demons they eliminated...

Marcus one of the Foreign Survivors who was a crew member of the Excellence Ship, found something decent.

[ Do you want to retrieve the loot? ]

"Yes."

[ Loots obtained: Demon Core x2, Spirit Dust x5, Agility Enhancement Bottle x1, Unknown Meat (Safe) x4, Unknown Meat (Unsafe) x2 ]

Marcus grinned. "Not bad. The Spirit Dust will help with crafting."

"You got something good? Lira frowned as she heard Marcus’ satisfied reaction.

"Ugh... I got useless fragments again. Why do I always get trash?"

[ Loots obtained: Demon Core x1, Rusted Claw Fragment x3, Unknown Meat (Unsafe) x5 ]

"Uhmm... Stop looting the Imps. Find something stronger... Like this Avarice Demon... Hehe." Darren, a member of the Eclipse Revenant, said with a grin on his face.

[ You have earned 1,200 Experience Points. ]

[ Loots obtained: Demon Core x5, Abyssal Essence Crystal x2, Spirit Enhancement Bottle x2, Vitality Enhancement Bottle x2, Demonhide Armor Fragment x1, Unknown Meat (Safe) x6 ]

"Oh... Finally! Demonhide fragments. This can be reforged into armor."

Helena also joined in the fun as she looked at the result of her looting process.

[ Loots obtained: Demon Core x1, Corrupted Blood Vial x10, Unknown Meat (Unsafe) x4 ]

Helena wasn’t sure if he got something good, but she felt quite good seeing it.

"Corrupted Blood... dangerous, but maybe useful for alchemy. I even got ten of them."

At this time, Natalie was also quite curious and decided to join them.

[ You have earned 6 Reputation Points. ]

[ Loots obtained: Abyssal Beast Fang x2, Abyssal Hide x5, Spirit Enhancement Bottle x3, Agility Enhancement Bottle x2, Abyssal Core x5, Unknown Meat (Safe) x8 ]

"Mhmm... This is pretty nice. Abyssal Core..."

"An Abyssal Core? That’s rare. Shane will probably want that." Travis muttered.

He then heard that meat was quite popular, but he didn’t feel good eating such meat for now.

Still, he tried looting...

"Yes."

[ Loots obtained: Abyssal Hide x2, Rusted Horn Fragment x1, Unknown Meat (Unsafe) x6 ]

"Ok... I’m unlucky... I’ll let you all loot the items." Travis said as he raised both of his hands and left.

"Just make it fast. We don’t know when the next wave is coming."

Meanwhile, inside the Eclipse Domain Shelter, the aftermath of the first wave was far from quiet.

While soldiers celebrated their survival, Anna, the alchemist, had already made a peculiar request... she wanted complete demon corpses delivered to her laboratory.

"It’s possible, right?"

Unlike most survivors who focused on looting for weapons, cores, or enhancement bottles, Anna’s mind was set on research.

Her apprentices, a small group of eager alchemists, helped drag the bodies of Imps, Avarice Demons, and Abyssal Beasts into the lab.

"Urgh... They smell."

"Just endure it. Miss Anna will take care of the smell soon."

Indeed, the chamber smelled of blood and corruption, but Anna didn’t flinch.

She had prepared purification wards around the room, ensuring the corpses wouldn’t infect anyone before they were studied...

Sure enough, the wards from Aya immediately took effect, clearing out the nasty smell.

"Lay them out carefully," she instructed, her voice calm but firm.

"We need intact specimens. Broken fragments won’t tell us what we need."

The apprentices obeyed, arranging the bodies on reinforced tables.

The Imps were small, but their claws were sharp and their eyes still glowing faintly with residual energy.

The Avarice Demons were huge with their muscles thick with corruption, while the Abyssal Beasts looked more animalistic, covered in hardened hides and sharp fangs.

Anna began with the Imps. She dissected one swiftly, noting the strange black veins running through its flesh.

"See this?" she pointed to the corrupted tissue. "I’m sure that this one spreads like a parasite. If this enters a human body, it will consume them from within. That’s why priests are vital... only purification can halt this infection."

Her apprentices scribbled notes furiously. One asked, "Can it be neutralized with alchemy?"

Anna paused, considering. "Perhaps. If we can isolate the corruption and bind it with Spirit‑infused reagents, we might create a suppressant. Not a cure, but something to slow the spread."

Next, she moved to the Avarice Demon. Its body was harder to cut, the flesh resisting even her enchanted scalpel.

"Remarkable," she muttered. "Their tissues felt like metal wires. This explains why ordinary blades fail against them." She extracted a sample of its blood, which hissed and smoked upon contact with air.

"Volatile... Dangerous. But maybe... it’s useful."

Her apprentices recoiled at the sight, but Anna’s eyes gleamed with curiosity. "If refined properly, this blood could serve as a catalyst. Imagine weapons that burn with Abyssal fire, turning the demons’ own essence against them."

Finally, she examined the Abyssal Beast. Its hide was thick like armor.

She tapped it with a hammer, producing a dull echo.

Clack... Clack... Clack...

"This material... is still stronger than steel. If reforged, it could probably create shields resistant to corruption." She muttered as she carefully removed a fang, before holding it up to the light.
