Global Awakening: Apocalypse Ender's Chronicle Chapter 1242: The New Item
Previously on Global Awakening: Apocalypse Ender's Chronicle...
Eudora was one of the Elves that many of the Survivors had a secret crush on.
She was kind, always with a smile on her face, and was very approachable.
Well, many of the Elite Elves, especially those Legendary ones, weren’t easy to talk to. It was as if it were beneath them to speak with humans.
However, Eudora and a few others were different.
Spencer sighed as he brought himself back to the present. Soon, a cart was wheeled into the workshop.
"Ohhh... It’s here."
On it lay a delivery wrapped in simple cloth.
Wade’s men set it down with care, and when the coverings were pulled back, Spencer couldn’t help but smile.
It had been quite some time since he obtained some precious materials...
Abyssal Iron Ingots.
There were actually fifty pieces in total, each one dark as midnight... As he looked at it closely, it even seemed faintly glowing with a violet light.
"It really looks so good no matter how many times I see this mineral."
He then stepped closer, running a gloved hand across the surface of one ingot.
The metal was unnaturally cold, heavy enough that even seasoned smiths strained to lift it.
Abyssal Iron was rare... He heard that they were mined from deep fissures close to the Spirit Stone mines. It was said to drink in energy, to resist enchantments, and to bite through even the strongest armor.
Spencer began calculating immediately.
"Fifty ingots... each one can be smelted into a blade core, but the density means we’ll need at least two per longsword. For lighter weapons... daggers or short swords... a single ingot suffices. Shields would consume three, maybe four."
He tapped his chin as he considered what to do.
Well, he was given the right to decide on everything. There was no limit to the number of weapons that he had to create.
Even if he used all of them for one weapon, it wouldn’t matter. After all, he was only one of the craftsmen entrusted to create special weapons.
"Should I just make more bullets with these?"
But as he thought of this, he shook his head. They already had upgraded bullets. Item Upgrade Crystals were used to ensure their quality.
There was no need to create more of those.
Because of that, he decided to focus on close-range weapons since, in the end, they were the ones needed for quick replacement.
"At best, we can forge twenty‑five longswords, or fifty smaller blades. If we mix alloys carefully, perhaps thirty full weapons of war."
Soon, he turned to his team within the workshop...
"Do you understand what this means? Anyone who wields a weapon forged from Abyssal Iron will be a menace. Against elves, against vampires, even against dragons. Their enchantments will weaken and their defenses will easily crumble. These materials... make sure not to waste them!"
The smiths exchanged uneasy glances.
One muttered, "It feels wrong... to make weapons that could be turned against allies."
Spencer’s steel‑gray eyes focused on the ingot before glancing at his team...
"No one will sleep tonight..."
"Yes, boss!"
The team shouted in unison, excited to work. Well, they had received various tonics and potions from before. Now, their bodies wouldn’t easily tire even if they worked 3 days straight.
Just like that, the Survivors with enchanting skills began their work.
"Just minimal enhancements... Remember that Abyssal Iron rejects excess spiritual energy. Too much, and the weapon destabilizes."
Hours passed as Spencer oversaw the smelting process.
The ingots glowed faintly as they were heated, their violet shimmer intensified before settling into a dull, deadly black.
Soon, sparks flew as hammers struck the molten ingots, shaping the cores into blades.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
Each strike echoed within the workshop as the metal was starting to take shape.
On the next day, Spencer studied the first prototype...
It was a longsword with a black edge... He held it up and felt its perfect weight... He could tell that the balance was flawless.
"I hope this is what Shane envisioned. A weapon that makes its wielder unstoppable."
He imagined squads armed with these blades, cutting through enemy lines, forcing even legendary elves in close combat... The thought unsettled him, but he knew it was necessary.
Finally, he addressed his team.
"We will forge twenty longswords, ten daggers, and five shields. That will consume the fifty ingots efficiently. Each piece will be tested, refined, and hidden until Shane calls for them. No one outside this chamber must know."
"Yes, boss!"
The workers nodded solemnly. They understood the gravity of their task.
Spencer placed the prototype back on the rack as he noticed another rat coming for him...
It had a small paper on its leg and knew that it was a secret message from Fiona.
Spencer untied the small paper from the rat’s leg, scanning the neat handwriting.
The message was short but urgent...
[ Go to your room immediately. Shane left an item on your study table. You must study it in secret. No one should know you possess it. ]
"Mhmm?"
The rat scurried away once Spencer’s eyes had passed over the words, its task complete.
Spencer folded the note and threw it in a furnace...
Shane rarely entrusted him with personal directives like this. Whatever the item was, it had to be important.
He turned back to his team in the workshop.
"Keep working on the Abyssal Iron. I don’t have to supervise you all, right? Refine the prototypes and lock them away. I’ll return later."
His tone left no room for questions.
"Got it, boss!"
"You can trust us!"
Leaving the forge behind, Spencer walked through the corridors until he reached his quarters.
The room was quiet, the faint smell of oil and steel lingering from his personal workbench.
On the table was a pouch that was quite unassuming. Beside it lay another folded note.
He opened it carefully.
[ Black Crystal of Life: A fragment said to contain mysteries of the Realm’s hidden will. Its purpose remains uncertain, but it resonates with dimensional structures and rituals, offering power that cannot be fully understood or controlled.]
Below the description, Shane’s handwriting continued...
[ Study it. Learn how to wield it. Do not divulge its existence to anyone. This is for your eyes alone. ]
Spencer exhaled slowly as he touched the pouch.
He then untied it and tipped the contents into his palm.
There, a shard of black crystal slid out. It was heavier than it looked, its surface faintly pulsing as though alive.
The air around it also felt different, as if it was vibrating with unseen energy.
He then turned it over, studying the facets.
’
The words echoed in his mind.
He had worked with metals, alloys, and enchantments his entire life, but this was something different. This was not a material to forge into blades... it was something more than that...
Spencer considered its potential uses.
Could it be embedded into a weapon, amplifying its destructive force? Could it stabilize enchantments the way Fairy Dust did? Or perhaps it was meant for rituals, gateways, or constructs beyond his understanding.
He frowned.
’
Unbeknownst to him, Shane had entrusted six individuals with similar fragments.
Diana, Shane’s younger sister and a skilled blacksmith, had one.
Borek, the dragon‑blooded craftsman, had another.
Others, scattered across different shelters, were each tasked with uncovering the crystal’s secrets. None of them knew the others were involved.
Spencer placed the crystal on his workbench, adjusting lenses and tools to examine it.
"Let’s see..."
He tried scratching its surface with steel, but the blade chipped instantly.
He applied heat... but the crystal absorbed it.. It was glowing faintly before returning to its cold state.
"Interesting..."
He attempted to inscribe runes he learned from Aya, but the markings faded. It was erased as if the crystal rejected them.
Hours passed, and frustration grew.
The Black Crystal of Life resisted every attempt to categorize it.
It was not a metal, not a gem, not a fuel. It was something else entirely.
Finally, Spencer sighed as he rubbed his temples.
"This is tough... I guess it will take me quite some time."
He carefully returned the crystal to its pouch, locking it in a drawer beneath his workbench.
On the next day, he tried once again, but nothing worked...
In the end, he returned to work on the ingots he got...
His team needed some guidance after all.
Just like that, he returned to the workshop, overseeing the forging until the day’s work was complete.
Later, after eating a simple meal of oats and roasted fish, and bathing to wash away the soot and sweat, Spencer returned to his room.
He unlocked the drawer, pulling out the pouch once more.
"Again..."
The crystal pulsed faintly in his hand, as though aware of his renewed attention.
"This time," he muttered, "I’ll take my time."
Night deepened outside, but Spencer remained at his bench... He knew it held secrets... secrets Shane believed were worth risking everything for.
And though he had failed to uncover them right now, he would not stop!
