Shane reviewed new missions, noting the appearance of vampires and wyverns alongside traditional zombie threats. He discussed the evolving dangers with the receptionist, who mentioned Raze's personal vendettas against Dragonoids. They also discussed the upcoming Monster Wave and a new mission for Eden Island, hinting at demonic threats.

Shane’s eyes narrowed as he finally focused on the strange listing at the bottom of the board.

[ Eclipse Revenant – Clan Missions: Active Listings ]

[ Mission 10: "Entity Retrieval: Sofia" ]

[ Objective: Locate and identify the Entity known as Sofia, last recorded in Project Mist archives.

Threat Level: Unknown

Target: Sofia – Entity classification (immune to all Zombie virus variants, status unconfirmed).

Rewards: Unknown

Clan EXP: Variable

Clan Skill Proficiency: Variable

Completed: 0/1 ]

"Is this really a mission? What is this reward?"

Shane’s breath caught. "Entity... not human, not vampire, not zombie. Entity."

He muttered the word again, unsettled. The system had never used that classification before. Missions always labeled targets by type... zombie, vampire, dragonoid, beast. But Sofia was listed as something else entirely.

Memories stirred.

Before Eden Island was discovered, all he had known of Sofia came from fragmented records.

She had been one of the first human experiments during the creation of the Super Soldier Serum.

The serum had failed, and that failure had sparked the Zombie Apocalypse. Yet Sofia had been different.

She was the only one unaffected by every strain of the virus. From low‑tier infections spread by Walkers, Runners, and Crawlers, to the high‑tier corruption of Tyrants, Kings, and even Lord‑class zombies... none of it touched her.

She was immune based on the records....

That immunity had made her the most valuable subject in history. The only potential key to ending the apocalypse. But she had vanished decades ago. The records spoke of her unique physique, her failed experiments, and then nothing...

Now, after Eden Island’s discovery, Shane had learned she was tied to Project Mist. He still shuddered at the memory of connecting her to the mysterious Gray Fog.

If Sofia was the Gray Fog, then she was no longer just a survivor. She was something else. Something the system itself now calls an .

"This mission... it’s weird. Hard to complete. Maybe impossible," Shane whispered.

He stayed in the hall, staring at the board, until the sound of more boots echoed through the chamber.

Survivors were returning from missions, one squad after another. The hall grew louder, filled with weary voices, clinking weapons, and the smell of sweat and blood.

Shane remained silent as he listened, listened carefully, absorbing their reports.

One squad complained about the Runner Ambush mission. "The northern road is clearer now," their leader said, "but the Runners are faster than ever. We lost two men before we could pin down the Captain."

Another squad reported on the Crawler Nest Purge. "The sewers are a nightmare. Acid everywhere. We had to burn half our gear just to get through. Without enchanted boots, we’d have been dead."

Shane nodded silently. He had expected these problems. The Apocalypse was mutating, enemies, adapting.

He thought back to the megaproject they had completed recently... the road clearing and widening initiative.

"At least the issue with the road is fixed now," he mused.

"Even the lamp posts were extended. Travel between shelters is safer."

But safety was relative. Survivors still struggled.

A younger squad reported on toxic‑type zombies.

"We can’t handle them below Level 50," one of them admitted.

"Their fumes melt armor. We had to rely on expensive magic items just to breathe. Tsk... What a waste of money."

Shane frowned. High‑level survivors could deal with toxic variants, but those below Level 50 were vulnerable. The cost of enchanted masks and talismans was draining their resources.

He stepped forward, addressing them directly.

"You did well to survive. Toxic types are a plague. Until we find a permanent solution, use the magic items. I’ll speak with Mr. Wadsworth and Anna about producing cheaper alternatives. Maybe enchanted filters or alchemical brews."

The squad nodded gratefully. Then, they realized who he was...

"Lord Shane!"

"C-Clan Leader... So you’re here! I didn’t notice you!"

Shane chuckled and waved his hand.

"It’s alright... I’m just trying to see the situation around here."

Just like that, Shane spoke with a few more members and learned more things about the missions and how they operate around her.

Then, another group entered, dragging sacks of cores.

They had completed the Screamer Hunt!

"Their cries nearly broke us," the leader admitted to Shane after being asked...

"We had to silence them fast. Without Aya’s talismans, we’d have gone mad."

Shane’s gaze softened. "You did well."

Furthermore, he couldn’t help but feel a little guilty.

Aya was still young, but she was churning out a lot of Talismans because their numbers were growing so quickly!

The hall grew busier, filled with survivors reporting, collecting rewards, and exchanging stories.

Shane stood among them, listening, guiding, and encouraging them from time to time...

He even treated them with food and drinks and promised that they would have better rewards as long as they continued clearing the Mission Quests.

Yet at this time, Shane’s mind kept drifting back to Mission 10. Sofia. The Entity.

Shane sighed...

He recalled Natalie’s priests reporting the situation. They had been studying the corruption.

They had warned him that more demons might appear soon, their powers shifting with their type of corruption. If Sofia was tied to Project Mist, if she was the Gray Fog, then perhaps she was the bridge between the apocalypse they knew and something darker.

The receptionist approached again, her ledger in hand.

"Leader, the missions are piling up. Should we prioritize a few more of them?"

Shane shook his head.

"No. Every mission matters. But I’ll assign squads more carefully. High‑level survivors for vampire and wyvern hunts. Mid‑level squads for zombie exterminations. And for Mission 10..." He paused, his voice lowering.

"That one I’ll handle myself."

The receptionist’s eyes widened. "You’ll take the Entity mission?"

Shane’s smile was faint, but firm.

"If Sofia is truly the key to ending the apocalypse, then I can’t leave it to chance. She’s not just another mission. She’s part of the mysterious history. She’s the answer we’ve been chasing for decades."

The receptionist hesitated, then nodded. "Understood, Leader."

Shane turned back to the board, his gaze lingering on the word ...

In Sector 5 of the mainland, the small shelter known as Resting Third had always been an oddity. Its survivors were weak compared to the rest of the world... most of them barely Level 30, struggling to keep pace with the escalating threats.

Yet they had endured for long and were not what anyone expected.

Their secret was simple but powerful... their swords.

Forged with a unique technique passed down through generations, these blades were unlike any other. They didn’t need silver to pierce vampires, nor enchanted runes to cut through dragonoid scales. Even the toughest zombie hides... Juggernauts, Tyrants, and others, could be split by the edge of a Resting Third sword.

That ability had made them valuable, and four nearby shelters had pledged protection in exchange for steady shipments of these weapons.

For a time, this arrangement worked. The weak survivors lived quietly, producing blades while stronger shelters defended them.

But peace never lasted long in the Apocalypse.

It began with a tear in the sky.

A rift opened above the sky of the shelter. It was glowing faintly with crimson light. The air grew heavy, and whispers of corruption spread through the streets. Survivors looked up in fear, clutching their swords, but none of them had ever faced what came next.

From the tear descended imps... They were small, twisted creatures with claws and burning eyes.

They poured into the town like a tide, shrieking with glee as they tore through homes and workshops.

Behind them came larger demons... They were hulking monsters with horns and molten skin, their steps shaking the ground.

"Run!"

"Evacuate to the bunker! These things are too strong!"

The swords of Resting Third were sharp, slicing through imp flesh and even biting into demonic hides. But the survivors wielding them were too weak.

Their levels were low, their stamina limited. Against a swarm of demons, their blades were not enough.

The streets became rivers of fire and blood.

Workshops collapsed, their forges spilling molten steel across the cobblestones.

Survivors tried to rally, forming lines with their swords raised, but the imps leapt over them, clawing at faces and throats.

The Creatures smashed barricades with ease, and just like that, their roars echoed through the night.

The four shelters that had promised protection were too far away. By the time word reached them, Resting Third was already burning.

A handful of survivors managed to escape.

They fled through hidden tunnels beneath the town, clutching their swords and dragging wounded comrades.

"We survived temporarily... But we need to get rid of this smell!"

The tunnels they used led into the forests beyond Sector 5, where they hoped to find refuge. But most of the town was lost.

The demons showed no mercy.

They tore apart the forges, shattered the sword racks, and burned the archives that held the secrets of Resting Third’s craft.

The legacy of their blades, the one thing that had kept them alive, was nearly erased in a single night.

By dawn, Resting Third was nothing but ruins...

The Demons have arrived!
