Chapter 2: Husband
Su Xiaoxiao was in a miserable state.
On her very first day after transmigrating, she found herself right in the middle of being married off.
Was her 27-year streak of being single in her past life due to the lack of an efficient father like this one, who simply kidnapped a husband and children for her?
“Daughter, daughter, daughter?”
Su Cheng called out to her.
Su Xiaoxiao offered no response. She had lost consciousness again.
It wasn't that she lacked mental fortitude, but her physical body had suffered a minor concussion from the earlier tumble. The sudden, forceful movement of turning her head to inspect the children had triggered another blackout.
“Dad, why did my sister pass out again? Was she scared?” Su Ergou inquired with concern.
Hearing his plump daughter’s steady snoring, Su Cheng shot a disdainful look at his son. “Why are you trying to frighten me? Given your sister’s courage, who could possibly scare her? She’s just overjoyed! Didn't you hear her say this was good news?”
Su Ergou felt perplexed. Had his sister truly meant it that way?
....
Su Xiaoxiao remained asleep until the afternoon.
Father Su was out of the house. He had taken Su Ergou and the three toddlers to the village to hand out red eggs and, more importantly, to collect a round of gift money from the neighbors.
The villagers were both stunned and infuriated. They were shocked that Su Cheng had actually managed to snag a son-in-law for Fatty Su, and they pitied whichever family’s son had been so unfortunate.
What made them angry was the Su family’s history; whenever the villagers hosted banquets, the Sus would show up to eat for free without ever contributing a single copper. Now, they actually had the nerve to demand money.
It was nothing short of blatant robbery!
“Why are you demanding three portions?”
Auntie Liu glared at him. She wasn't intimidated by the three tyrants of the Su family!
Su Cheng tilted his chin up arrogantly and gestured to his son.
Su Ergou lifted one of the children high and declared with total confidence, “This covers the wedding, the full month celebration, and the first birthday!”
Auntie Liu was left speechless.
The little children were equally silent.
Elsewhere, Su Xiaoxiao was unaware that Daddy Su was causing a scene in the village. Having not eaten all day, she was feeling faint from starvation.
In her previous life, she had undergone rigorous military training. Hunger endurance was part of that, but she had relied on a powerful physique back then.
This current body clearly couldn't handle the deprivation. She needed to locate food immediately.
Su Xiaoxiao headed toward the kitchen.
Even though she possessed the original host’s memories, Su Xiaoxiao was still taken aback when she crossed the threshold.
The walls were full of cracks, the roof leaked, and the cooking pot was fractured. A basket lay overturned on the floor, with vegetable scraps and muddy sweet potatoes strewn everywhere. A mysterious, sticky black residue coated the inside of the pot.
Su Xiaoxiao felt her soul shudder. In her past life, she wouldn't have even stepped into such a kitchen, let alone consumed anything from it.
Pushing past her stomach’s protests, she began to clean. It took an entire hour of hard work before the chaotic kitchen was finally organized.
Su Xiaoxiao prepared a mixture of cornmeal and white flour, along with stir-fried chives and eggs. She used lard to fry the chives and selected a few intact sweet potatoes to boil a pot of soup.
According to her memories, the original host always received the largest portion of staple foods, as she was the priority when meals were distributed.
The host ate solid rice while Father Su and her brother ate watery porridge. The host was given white flour, while the father and son ate corn noodles. As for luxuries like eggs and lard, the men of the family hadn't tasted them in ages.
Su Xiaoxiao had initially grabbed two bundles of chives but decided to put one back after a moment of reflection.
She then ladled out a bowl of sweet potato soup and sat on a small kitchen stool to eat.
Suddenly, a dull thud echoed from the front room.
Frowning, she set down her bowl and chopsticks and walked toward the main house.
Her first thought was that the rest of the Su family had come home. However, upon entering the room, she discovered a man sprawled on the floor, appearing as though he had just tumbled off the bed.
That explained the noise she had heard.
Su Xiaoxiao scrutinized him.
The man possessed broad shoulders, a slender waist, and a tall frame. His attire was elegant, made of a material she didn't recognize, but it radiated an expensive aura.
His fingers were long and well-defined, with distinct calluses on his palms.
“A martial artist?”
Su Xiaoxiao made a quick assessment.
Furthermore, she caught the heavy scent of blood coming from him.
“Are you injured?”
It was strange—why was there a wounded man in the Su household?
Wait, could this be the son-in-law Father Su had captured for her?
It made sense now. Who would willingly marry her? Even a kidnapped man would try to flee. If he was severely injured, however, his presence here was logical.
Su Xiaoxiao blinked, crouched down, and rolled him over.
Since he was technically her husband, she needed to inspect the goods.
But when her eyes landed on that unrecognizable face, they widened in shock.
Hadn't her father claimed he was a hundred times more handsome than He Tongsheng?
This was it?
If Father Su were present, he would have been stunned by the sight. When he had originally removed the man’s mask, he had seen a face of peerless beauty.
He never would have accepted a son-in-law who was a burden otherwise.
The man’s current appearance was the result of his face hitting the floor during his fall, causing it to swell up significantly.
The pig-headed... rather, the man, was actually conscious.
The moment his eyes opened, he saw a large woman positioned between his legs, seemingly messing with him. His skin crawled, and he instinctively lashed out with his arm to strike her!
Su Xiaoxiao was in the middle of checking his wounds when she felt a sudden surge of killing intent and a coldness at her throat.
Using the combat reflexes from her previous life, she swung her thick arm and deftly parried his wrist!
The man anticipated this and tried to use his left hand immediately.
To his shock, he couldn't move it.
Only then did he realize his left arm and both legs were firmly bound with rope.
“Who are you!”
He demanded in a freezing tone!
Su Xiaoxiao took advantage of her weight and sat directly on his right arm.
With what felt like a mountain pinning his limb, the man was left breathless.
Seeing that he was now incapable of fighting back, Su Xiaoxiao let out a sigh of relief. It was a good thing she had the foresight to tie him up earlier. If she hadn't, she might have been seriously hurt or killed.
“Do you plan on attacking me again? If you stop, I’ll let you go,” Su Xiaoxiao told him.
The man’s arm was struggling under the immense pressure.
He grimaced, breaking into a cold sweat as he asked, “Who are you? What is your goal? Where... where are the others?”
“The others? I’m not really sure.”
She was telling the truth. The house was empty when she woke up.
As for his first two questions, she needed a moment to formulate an answer.
The man eyed her with deep suspicion.
Su Xiaoxiao replied with a straight face, “Here’s the deal. You collapsed on the road, and my family rescued you. I was just inspecting your injuries!”
The man glanced down at his loosened belt and said with a dark expression, “Is it necessary to remove my pants to check my wounds?”
Su Xiaoxiao replied boldly, “There was blood on your pants. I had to find out where you were bleeding!”
The man snapped back, “That isn't my blood!”
Su Xiaoxiao shrugged. “Well, I know that now.”
The man clenched his teeth, his fists tightening. “So you’ve already...”
Su Xiaoxiao remained silent.
She looked up at the ceiling. “Anyway, it’s not like it was much to look at.”
The man was completely stunned.
