Jian Yiling found herself unable to assist with this matter.
After all, she was the only one blessed with a baby daughter.
“By the way, where are Yunnao, Zhang Yun, Yichen, and Yufan? Are they not arriving?” Luo Xiuen inquired as she scanned the room. She noticed the absence of the two married couples.
Why were the married ones proving less punctual for a birthday gathering than those who were single?
Jian Yuncheng provided an explanation: “Yunnao has been occupied visiting Zhang Yun’s family over the past few days.
They only arrived back in Beijing this morning, so they are currently en route. As for Yichen and Yufan, they were held up resolving a business complication. They intend to join us once that is settled.”
Upon hearing this, Luo Xiuen sighed: “Ah... That makes sense. Married couples certainly have more responsibilities. Tell me, when will I finally hear some promising news from my unmarried brothers-in-law?”
“Sister-in-law... Could you possibly drop the subject? Isn’t having you carry on the Jian family legacy enough?” Jian Yujie muttered.
“Well, having so many boys is rather monotonous, and I have no desire for more children of my own. Therefore, I am pinning my hopes on you lot to get married and provide me with a little niece,” Luo Xiuen retorted with feigned indignation.
Having birthed four rowdy boys, she possessed no courage to attempt a fifth time.
The primary concern was that all four of her sons seemed to have inherited her loud, boisterous nature.
If this pattern continued, the Jian household would simply be overwhelmed by the commotion.
Since Jian Yunnao and Zhang Yun had welcomed triplets, it was highly improbable that they would be looking to expand their family anytime soon.
Jian Yichen and Qin Yufan were also parents to one son, and notably, Qin Yufan was currently pregnant with another boy.
This meant that if Luo Xiuen truly desired a niece, all her expectations rested upon the shoulders of her unmarried brothers-in-law.
A short while later, Zhai Zhongshen and Long Yuetian made their appearance.
As usual, Zhai Zhongshen carried an intense, intimidating presence that commanded respect and a hint of trepidation.
Likewise, Long Yuetian appeared exactly as she had previously.
“Have your mosquito bites improved?” Jian Yiling asked with genuine concern.
She was likely the only individual present who had taken Zhai Yunfeng’s comment at face value, completely missing any underlying implications.
At first, Long Yuetian was confused by the mention of mosquito bites, as she hadn’t suffered any. However, observing the expressions on the faces of those around her, she quickly grasped what they were thinking.
She remembered the remark her husband had made to their son earlier.
Despite the question, Zhai Zhongshen maintained his typical serious and stoic expression.
Zhai Yunsheng leaned in, whispering into Jian Yiling’s ear.
Following his words, Jian Yiling’s face turned bright red, and she reflexively cast her eyes downward.
Oh... So that is what they meant... She had genuinely believed it was an insect sting...
Uncle Zhai and Yuetian were... certainly quite passionate...
Thirty minutes later, Little Ruanruan found herself resting in Zhai Yuze’s arms once more.
The infant had enjoyed herself for a brief window before exhaustion took over. As she drifted into a deep sleep, she curled up in her brother’s embrace, appearing just like a miniature koala.
Zhai Yuze carefully transferred her to his mother.
Little Ruanruan was known to nap soundly in anyone’s arms, but the moment she awoke, she required the sight of her mother, or she would inevitably start to wail.
To prevent such a calamity, everyone took to passing her directly to Jian Yiling the moment she dozed off.
Seeing the infant sleeping peacefully in Jian Yiling’s arms, Luo Xiuen felt a renewed pang of jealousy.
“Might you let me hold her for a short while? If she stirs or cries, I will return her to you immediately,” Luo Xiuen pleaded with Jian Yiling.
She was desperate to hold the little one!
