1460 Extra: Little Ruanruan (7)
Following that inquiry, Jian Yiling passed Little Ruanruan over to Luo Xiuen.
A short time later, the infant stirred and awoke. She blinked twice upon spotting Auntie Xiuen.
Realizing she was not in her mother's embrace, tears quickly gathered in the corners of her eyes.
“No, no… please, don't cry. Mommy is nearby, she just stepped away to the restroom. She’ll be back momentarily. As soon as she returns, I’ll hand you right back to her,” Luo Xiuen pleaded, sounding quite panicked.
Watching Little Ruanruan sob was truly painful.
It felt much different than when her older brothers cried.
Luo Xiuen’s own sons would wail like foghorns, which never bothered her in the slightest; in fact, there were times she felt tempted to smack their bottoms.
However, Little Ruanruan simply choked on her sobs. Watching those solitary, silent tears roll down her cheeks was simply too much for Luo Xiuen to handle.
The moment Jian Yiling reappeared, Luo Xiuen promptly transferred the child into her arms.
Just as expected, back in the safety of her mother’s embrace, Ruanruan ceased her crying immediately. Her tiny fingers gripped Jian Yiling’s clothing tightly as she snuggled in close.
“Goodness. I am definitely not holding her while she sleeps ever again. Seeing her cry like that just breaks my heart,” Luo Xiuen muttered to herself. Next time, she reasoned, she would wait until the baby was awake.
Moments later, Little Ruanruan gazed around with puffy, tear-stained eyes. Upon spotting Zhai Yunsheng, she chirped, “Daddy!”
She reached out with wide arms, clearly asking for a cuddle.
Zhai Yunsheng rarely bothered holding his sons, yet he could almost never refuse Little Ruanruan.
Without hesitation, he retrieved her from his wife’s arms.
As Little Ruanruan settled against her father, she whispered, “Daddy! Daddy!”
“There is no need to be afraid. Mommy and Daddy are right here.”
“Mhmm.”
“Are you feeling hungry? Do you want a snack?” Zhai Yunsheng inquired.
It was at that exact moment that Jian Yunmo arrived.
He immediately took note of the red hue in Little Ruanruan’s eyes.
Jian Yunmo asked with urgency: “What happened? Are you feeling alright?”
“Uncle Momo!”
Seeing Jian Yunmo, Little Ruanruan tried to lunge into his arms.
Much like her mother, Little Ruanruan favored Jian Yunmo above all her other uncles.
Since she was still mastering speech, she couldn't say “Uncle Yunmo” properly, preferring to call him “Uncle Momo” instead.
Zhai Yunsheng’s expression soured slightly at this. For some reason, he felt a sting of realization that Little Ruanruan seemed to prefer Jian Yunmo over him.
Had any of his sons acted in such a manner, he would have dragged them to their uncle immediately for him to raise.
Yet, seeing Little Ruanruan behave this way only sparked deep jealousy.
In truth, the young girl favored Jian Yunmo because he was the most adept at child-rearing among all her uncles.
He understood every aspect of her care, from clothing to meals. Whenever Little Ruanruan cried, Jian Yunmo always intuitively grasped the cause.
Regarding this, Grandma Jian had previously teased Zhai Yunsheng, claiming that since he had whisked away the little sister Jian Yunmo had looked after his whole life, he essentially owed him a cute niece in return.
Naturally, Zhai Yunsheng could not mount a defense against such logic.
“Do you feel ill?” Jian Yunmo asked gently.
“Nope!” Little Ruanruan replied, swaying her head from side to side.
