Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 1944: The Viscount’s Death
Previously on Endless Evolution: Last Star...
More than a thousand demons were supposed to secure Midgar’s victory over Adam, and he had almost succeeded.
But none of the lords, almost none, had noticed that Adam hadn’t used his needle once during the entire battle. Only Ergander and Blafor had picked up on this, though even they weren’t entirely sure.
Now, when Adam summoned his needle, it became clear to everyone who would emerge victorious in this battle.
"N-No..." Midgar’s voice trembled. "This can’t be!"
Part of his demon army was wiped out by a single slash from Adam. He couldn’t have imagined such a thing even in his worst nightmare, but unfortunately for him, it was reality.
Adam, in turn, looked back.
There were still many demons on the rocky plain, but none of them dared to attack him. They understood what would happen to them if they did.
However, Adam saw no point in fighting them all. What he had done a moment ago was a demonstration of his power.
"Well, I have to do something about this anyway. Even if they’re weak... they’ll get in the way."
Whoooooosh.
Having made his decision, Adam leaped forward, moving at high speed toward the gray column and the dark rift. Midgar had already run out of energy, but as long as this ability was active, new demons would continue to appear from time to time, albeit much more slowly than before.
Midgar’s eyes widened as he realized what Adam was about to do, but there was nothing he could do to stop him.
Clutch.
Adam gripped his needle tighter as the energy pulse coursed through the blade.
With his next leap, he dashed through the gray column, and his needle left a blue line that instantly sliced the rift in two.
It was a clean cut, preventing the particles of the gray flows from merging back into a single whole.
Midgar was speechless. All he could do was watch as his trump card, his last ability that could have helped him win, vanished into nothingness.
Moreover, Midgar, as a Lord, sensed how Adam’s aura had changed.
He saw the blue aura pillar emanating from Adam, calm and majestic.
All the abilities and energy Adam had used up to that point couldn’t compare to his current aura.
However, even though Adam’s aura had changed after he remembered the Silver Weaver, his strength was actually running out.
Adam could continue the fight for a limited time and launch only a few more attacks, but he realized that everything had already been decided.
Shudder!
His body trembled as he found himself face-to-face with Midgar.
In the blink of an eye, Adam attacked, swinging his needle.
Midgar’s eyes widened in disbelief as he defended himself with his poleaxe.
Crack!
A tiny splinter flew off to the side, reflecting in Midgar’s frightened eyes.
It wasn’t just him who was shocked, but every Lord watching the battle from the sidelines. Adam hadn’t just launched an attack, he’d damaged the Viscount’s Arc.
This was direct proof that he was capable of killing a Viscount, even with simple attacks, as if Midgar were his equal.
"I see. So he’s going to do it after all," the Lord sighed heavily. "On the one hand, I’m glad this will be a defeat for the Befallen Crown, but Adam Vinter... he’s actually going to become a Second-Rank Phantom soon, isn’t he?"
The Lord standing next to him nodded deeply.
"I agree with you. After what he’s done here, no one will have any doubts that sooner or later, Adam Vinter will break through the barrier and reach the Second Circle."
There were so many monsters in the world that the appearance of a new Lord was usually nothing out of the ordinary. The exception was monsters like Zin, who, at the Black Threat Level, was one of the strongest monsters of the First Circle.
But... the Second Rank Phantoms were a completely different story. There were few of them, and each one could tip the balance of power across the entire world.
Step.
Adam stepped forward, swinging his needle from bottom to top, once again striking directly at Midgar’s poleaxe.
Slash! Slash! Slash!
Again and again, Adam executed simple but swift swings that Midgar could no longer defend against. He lacked both the speed and the strength to set the pace of their battle as he had before. All he could do was defend himself and fall back.
"It seems we’re both completely exhausted. But, Midgar, I still have enough energy left for at least one more attack. For you, I’m willing to do this even if it means I get hurt."
Midgar wanted to say something, but Adam was faster.
Another slash, and this time, it wasn’t Midgar’s poleaxe that took the hit, but Midgar himself.
A stream of blood gushed from his chest as Adam stepped forward.
In the blink of an eye, Adam was right in front of Midgar, gripping his needle tightly with both hands.
Midgar was an experienced warrior. He understood everything from Adam’s movements, his gaze, and his stance.
He was about to deliver the final strike.
"No! I can’t let this happen!" Midgar cried out inwardly as he looked at his poleaxe. His Arc was the only thing that could help him.
"It’s too late."
Adam’s voice rang out as all the blue threads he possessed surged toward his needle, enveloping it in a fast-moving stream like a rushing river. Pulses ran through the threads, which quivered like waves, gathering more and more power.
With his last ounce of strength, Midgar gripped his poleaxe, preparing to launch one more attack, but Adam was faster.
Tap.
The tip of the needle touched Midgar’s chest, right in the center.
"This was a momentous battle for me, Midgar. You were the first Lord I’ve ever defeated. Now, it’s time to end this."
Tremble!
Midgar’s hand wavered as he brought his poleaxe down on Adam.
It was already too late for him to change anything.
Pulse!
Another, final pulse coursed through the needle before all the energy burst from the tip in a broad blue ray that destroyed everything in its path.
