Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 1942: Blue Needle
Previously on Endless Evolution: Last Star...
Lakma had only recently become part of Adam’s inner space. Still, she tried to do everything in her power to help Adam, but... like everyone else, she had reached her limit.
She wasn’t the only one at the top of the Evolution Tree, but for some reason she had forgotten that.
Everyone had forgotten about the man whose green eyes were now looking at Lakma with a hint of tenderness and sadness in his gaze.
The man’s blue hair fell below his shoulders, and he wore nothing but a loose-fitting black robe lined with white fabric.
His skin was pale, and his features were sharp, yet he didn’t look dangerous or threatening, at least not to Lakma.
"You... Who are you...?" Lakma asked again, her eyes trembling.
A strange feeling welled up in her heart at that moment. It seemed to her that the man before her was familiar, that she knew him well, but... she couldn’t remember anything.
Not a single shared memory came to her mind, even though it was thanks to him that she had become a full-fledged member of Adam’s inner space and Evolution Tree.
"Don’t worry," the man smiled as he pointed at the Path Construct. "That thing is to blame for everything. But... if we hadn’t done this, it would already be over for Adam."
Lakma blinked as she remembered something important.
"R-Right! Adam! I have to help him! Monsters... demons...! They’ll tear him to pieces! We have to do something!"
Lakma lowered her gaze to her hands as her veins bulged with strain and her eyes filled with blood.
She tried to create just one more spark.
"Enough. You don’t need to push yourself so hard."
The man’s voice rang out as his hand rose.
Before Lakma could even realize it, his hand, in a swift strike, knocked her out. It was a precise chop to the neck.
Lakma’s eyes went blank as the man caught her and laid her on the floor.
"Well, I suppose I should hurry, shouldn’t I?"
The man smiled as he looked up.
The darkness of the inner space shimmered as a scene from Adam’s POV appeared.
A horde of demons pounced on him, and in half a second, maybe even less, they would tear him to pieces.
If time in the inner space and the real world flowed at the same speed, this would have already happened countless times.
But the man and the others still had a chance to turn the situation around and help Adam.
Sure, Lone Blaze, Silvana, Lakma, and the Evolution Tree had already exhausted all their strength, but... not Adam’s main weapon.
"Just think about it... I had to stand on the sidelines and miss the whole fight. Watching that arrogant prick beat up Adam while they all forgot about me! Damn, I’m not going to wait any longer! Even I don’t have that much patience!"
Still, the man wasn’t angry. He smiled warmly as his heart beat rapidly.
To some extent, he was flattered that this role had fallen to him, though he did not doubt that he was more worthy of it than anyone else.
The man gazed into the distance for a while before turning to the Path Construct.
"You may begin. Now, Adam will be able to endure this. The time has come to face the final trial."
At that very moment, a multitude of magic circles soared against the backdrop of the Grand Stars. One magic circle after another, they linked together like gears.
The lesser stars shone brightly, followed by the First Grand Star, the Second Grand Star, and finally - the Third Grand Star.
A bright light spread around as yet another special magic circle with a needle symbol appeared before the Grand Stars.
The needle magic circle absorbed all the light and, in a powerful ray, shot it forward.
Whooooooosh!
The man’s body trembled as he quickly moved aside.
He reached out, catching the bright beam.
Bright energy waves swept through the dark world as the man’s eyes grew brighter and brighter, momentarily taking on a deep, blue glow.
"Now, it’s my turn to go through this. Don’t worry, Adam, very soon you’ll remember your first and main weapon."
Despite the overwhelming power of the energy ray, the man effortlessly held it back and gradually absorbed it, transforming it into something else.
A long blade with a wide edge on one side emerged from the bright light. A glint ran across the smooth blue surface, while a multitude of blue threads emanated from the rough guard. They would always be part of this weapon, part of this needle.
Click!
The magic circle made one more rotation before coming to a stop. All the energy within the Path Construct was directed toward enabling the man to undergo this evolution and to create a new needle.
Now, the Path Construct had only to wait for Adam to return and face the final obstacle before the Second Circle.
"But... It’s too soon for him to see the barrier," the man muttered, looking at his reflection in the blade. "We have one unfinished business, and only he and I can do it. Just like in the very beginning."
He smiled.
"Not only did I have to become part of your power, but I also had to change for your sake. Still, it was worth it. The power emanating from the Path Construct... It’s something special. It’s what I’ve always wanted!"
At that very moment, the man gripped the needle tightly with both hands and looked up.
The demons’ claws were already close. In a split second, they would pierce Adam’s flesh. There were more than a thousand of them, and he was alone.
"No, you’re not alone anymore, Adam."
The man’s voice echoed as an energy burst erupted from the blue needle.
"It’s time to remember me and take up your weapon once more!"
The man swung the needle as the energy blade sliced through the dark world, momentarily connecting the real world and the inner space.
Thump!
Adam’s heart tightened as his pupils contracted.
Then, the bright light engulfed everything around him as the energy blast consumed more than a hundred monsters in fleeting shadows.
