Adam, distracted by his newfound power and Silvana's presence, faces Midgar. Midgar unleashes a vortex attack, from which a massive gray demon emerges. Adam, seemingly unfazed and acknowledging Silvana's support, prepares to fight the demon with a new energy spear.

When Adam saw Midgar’s poleaxe, he assumed his opponent would switch to aggressive close-quarters combat. He imagined that Midgar’s poleaxe and his needle would clash again and again, shaking the ground, but in reality, Midgar’s true strength lay elsewhere.

"So you’re not planning to win on your own?" Adam asked, looking at Midgar, who was hovering off to the side.

Midgar frowned.

"What do you mean? You’re using your Operator’s power! That demon is my power, and no one else’s!"

Adam was silent for a moment before nodding deeply.

"You’re right, but her power is my power. And, unlike you, I don’t force her to fight in my place. I’ll be the one to defeat you, your demon, and any other creature you decide to summon to your aid."

Midgar narrowed his eyes, but didn’t continue their pointless argument. To him, it made no difference how he won. What mattered most was the fact of victory itself.

Tap.

Midgar tapped the air with his poleaxe, summoning the gray flows.

Then, he pointed at Adam.

"Kill him. Use whatever it takes."

"ROOOOOOOAAAAARHHHH!!!

The gray demon roared furiously, shaking the very air before flapping its wings and soaring high into the sky.

It moved straight toward Adam, and even the demon’s fist was large enough to crush Adam into a bloody pulp with a single blow.

However, Adam’s gaze remained calm, while the spear in his hand trembled violently.

It seemed that his spear was no different from the ones before, except for the vibrant purple flame emanating from the back, but that wasn’t quite the case.

"Hmm... Silvana, I have to admit that it’ll be hard for me to fully control this ability." Adam admitted as the demon’s massive silhouette approached him.

Silvana closed her eyes, resting her head on his shoulder.

"Is that a problem? You don’t need to overthink it, it’s not a mystery, after all. Just do what feels right, and you’re sure to win."

Adam gave her a strange look.

"Damn, it seems the time we were apart has changed you a lot. Before, it would’ve been impossible for you to act so relaxed during a dangerous mission."

Silvana shrugged.

"To be honest, I don’t usually act this way, even after training - it’s just... the aura coming from you seems to be affecting me as well."

Adam nodded deeply and didn’t press the issue. After all, he had a more important task at hand. Once he defeated the gray demon and Midgar, he’d have more than enough time to talk to Silvana.

"Alright, in that case, it’s time to get back to something we haven’t done together in a long time - fighting."

Clutch.

Adam gripped the white spear tighter as the gray demon appeared before him.

"ROOOAOAAARRRH!

The gray demon swung its arms, ready to bring its red, sharp claws down on Adam.

But Adam wasn’t going to run away or dodge. Instead, he leaned forward to deliver a powerful spear throw.

Whooooooosh!

In a white flash with a purple trail, the spear shot forward at lightning speed.

The gray demon was a summoned creature, created from energy, but it possessed all the instincts of a powerful monster.

Acting on reflex, the gray demon ducked as the white spear whizzed past its right shoulder.

Midgar’s eyes flashed as the gray demon’s smirk widened. They both realized that Adam had failed, and this was their chance to attack.

"Alright, maybe he has powerful abilities, but what’s the point if he can’t hit his target with them?" Midgar chuckled to himself as he leaned forward. "As soon as my demon attacks, I’ll immediately—"

Tremble!

At that very moment, a tremor rippled through the air, catching Midgar’s attention. The tremor emanated from the white spear.

"What the...?"

Before Midgar could process what was happening, the white spear exploded in a bright flash. A cloud of flame remained in its place, but it lasted only a few moments before gusts of wind scattered it.

But... Midgar’s expression grew even more somber, and his eyes widened.

Four long, slender shards soared through the air. From a distance, they resembled needles, and each shard was followed by a thick purple trail, like purple threads.

Seeking answers, Midgar turned to Adam, who was smiling slightly at that moment. Unlike Midgar and the gray demon, Adam knew what would happen next.

Slowly, Adam raised his hand and made a brief gesture.

Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.

The spear shards hurtled toward the gray demon at high speed, leaving four purple lines in the sky behind them.

The demon’s eyes narrowed as it hurried to erect a protective barrier of dense energy, but... The demon hadn’t yet fully realized who its opponent was.

Without resistance, the shards pierced through the barrier, ending up behind the gray demon.

The gray demon reacted quickly and crossed its arms in front of its chest, but the shards had a different target - its neck.

"NO!" Midgar exclaimed as he channeled more energy into his summoned creature, creating a protective veil around the demon’s neck.

"That won’t help him," Adam’s voice rang out as the shards trembled and transformed into four bright flashes of lightning.

In the blink of an eye, the shards flew around the gray demon’s head several times, leaving white threads wrapped around its neck.

By the time Midgar realized what was happening, it was already too late to do anything.

Clutch.

Adam clenched his fist as the white threads glowed brightly, releasing all their stored energy.

At the same moment, the gray demon’s head flew off to the side and crashed onto the rocky plain. A few moments later, the same thing happened to its heavy body.

As a result, the gray demon was unable to land a single attack on Adam and lost its head.

It was Midgar, not Adam, who had missed his spear throw, for whom this round was a failure.

Adam smirked, showing some emotion other than calm for the first time in the fight.

"What now, my opponent? Isn’t it time for the proud Viscount to run?"

Midgar frowned and gripped his weapon tighter. If he wanted to win, he would have to resort to extreme measures.
