Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 1933: Vortex and the Gray Demon
Previously on Endless Evolution: Last Star...
Usually, Adam didn’t allow himself to get distracted by anything during a fight. Not just because it was dangerous or because he respected his opponent. No, there was another reason, one just as important.
When he fought, he felt the adrenaline, the thirst for blood and victory. He understood that he was facing a dangerous opponent, which meant he had to give it his all to fully experience the battle.
But... Now, after he’d escaped the Dark Field and his second round against Midgar had begun, things had changed.
For some reason, Adam felt that he had won. Even if he was now facing a Viscount, it made no difference to him.
Midgar activated his Arc, and the battle moved to the next stage, yet... Adam allowed himself to get distracted by conversations with Silvana, and it seemed she understood this as well.
"He... Why don’t I feel like he has even the slightest chance?" Adam muttered as he lay among the rubble.
He remembered that he was in the middle of a battle, and for Midgar, that was the worst insult.
Silvana, who was now sitting on a rock off to the side, rested her elbows on her lap.
"Is it because you’ll do anything to win?"
"No," Adam replied sharply. "That’s not it, or rather, that’s not the most important thing..."
Tap.
Adam touched his temples as he realized something.
"When I received the Third Grand Star, and you came back... A lot changed. Along with a powerful energy current, I also received all the information about my new abilities, but... my mind still hasn’t accepted it..."
Slowly, Adam rose from the ground while the dust cloud still hid him from the others’ view. All Midgar could see floating in the air was Adam’s shadow and nothing more. Silvana had no shadow, since her actual body wasn’t there.
"I still don’t know just how strong I’ve become... Huh... I still haven’t even accepted the fact that I’ve now reached the limit and am just one step away from the Second Circle!" Adam muttered to himself as the smirk on his face grew wider and wider.
Tap.
He felt a touch as he turned around, only to see Silvana’s calm green eyes.
"Tshhh. You’ll understand everything, little by little. To be honest, I’m just as puzzled as you are, but I’ve decided to focus only on my own abilities. Everything else is up to you."
In response, Adam smiled bitterly.
"Yeah, that might work for you, but not for me. I see everything... I feel every part of my power!"
Faster than Adam could realize it, Silvana took his chin in her hand and kissed him, making his eyes widen. He clearly hadn’t expected that.
"Take it slow," Silvana smiled. "We’ve waited so long to see each other again, and here we are, right?"
She ran her hand through the air, leaving a trembling flow of energy in its wake.
"Go ahead, my Phantom. Fight as freely as your heart desires. You can use my power and the power of everyone else. After all, we’re all a part of you - even me."
Adam and Silvana both knew that wasn’t true yet. To make it so, they would at least have to reach the Second Circle to get closer to the Manifest Nexus.
But Adam took it as a promise for the future.
"Alright, let’s not keep my opponent waiting any longer. He’s not the most patient person. I think that’s become clear to everyone by now."
Whooooosh!
With the next gust of wind, the dust veil was blown away, and Midgar once again saw Adam and his strange, bright eyes.
"Tsk."
Midgar gripped his poleaxe tightly, ready to fight.
"Does he still not realize that this is a real battle in which he could die? Does he think it’s enough to just escape the Dark Field to defeat a Viscount?"
In the blink of an eye, Midgar’s eyes filled with rage as the amber eye on his poleaxe flared brightly with a golden flame.
"I’ll show you what true power is, Adam Vinter!"
At that very moment, he swung his poleaxe at Adam, leaving a trail of gray energy in the air.
Tremble! Tremble! Tremble!
Space trembled as a tiny vortex formed at the tip of his poleaxe, gradually growing larger and larger.
In less than five seconds, the vortex had grown large enough to swallow several giant crystal blades, but it didn’t look like Adam was going to use them.
"I don’t know what’s happening to you, Adam Vinter. When I heard stories about your battles, you behaved differently. Now... it’s as if someone else has taken possession of you. But don’t worry, I’ll snap you back to your senses before I capture you and take you to the Befallen Crown!"
Crack!
Cracks rippled through space as two terrifying paws emerged from the vortex, clutching its edges.
The paws resembled those of a dragon, but Adam and some of the Lords immediately realized that wasn’t the case.
"Hmm.... That’s curious..." Adam narrowed his eyes as he looked at the two straight horns that appeared next.
The demon’s head, its face contorted with rage, loomed before Adam as soon as the massive creature had fully emerged from the vortex.
’I was prepared for a destructive ray or something like that, but it turns out this vortex was a portal for another creature?’
Thump!
The gray demon landed on the ground with its feet, shattering the rocky surface of the plain.
A shadow fell from the demon’s massive body as a crimson light flared in its eyes. When the demon opened its jaws, its red, sharp teeth were revealed, meant to instill fear in its target.
But...
Even that wasn’t enough to evoke any emotion in Adam. Sure, he hadn’t expected Midgar to possess such abilities, but he wasn’t afraid of the gray demon.
He could see what was about to happen to this massive creature.
"Alright, Silvana, let’s see what your second ability is capable of." Adam’s body trembled as he soared high into the air.
Adam came to a stop level with Midgar, towering over the gray demon.
The gray demon’s body trembled as broad wings unfolded on its back.
Adam decided to respond as well.
Tremble.
With a tremor, the energy flow surged toward his hand, forming a long spear with a purple flame bursting from the rear like a missile that would surely destroy its target.
