Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 1932: Thoughts in the Heat of Battle
Previously on Endless Evolution: Last Star...
When a Lord used his Arc, it could only mean one thing - the battle had entered a serious phase.
Midgar didn’t want to do this, not only because of his pride and confidence that he could easily defeat a K4-Phantom, but also because he didn’t want to use the bulk of his power in front of the other Lords.
He didn’t want even more monsters to know about his abilities and realize that by the end of the battle, he would be powerless. Sure, he understood that it was unlikely anyone would dare attack him, but he didn’t want to increase the chances of that happening, even if they were extremely slim.
But...
Adam simply left him no other choice.
Drip.
The crimson drop fell from the corner of his mouth, shattering against the stone surface. If he hadn’t summoned his Arc, Adam’s final attack would have left at least nine wide gashes in him.
Each giant crystal blade was powerful enough to cut him in two and continue on its path.
Midgar’s only chance of survival was to use his Arc and the armor he’d created from his remaining energy. He would no longer be able to attack Adam from a distance or use the dragons for that purpose, but that was no longer necessary.
SLASH!
Midgar swung his poleaxe, directing powerful gusts of wind straight toward Adam.
Adam’s gaze remained calm, but the gusts of wind ruffled the black tips of his hair. He sensed that Midgar’s power had now risen to a dangerous level, and he wasn’t the only one who realized it.
"What do you have to say now, my friend?" Blafor asked, thoughtfully stroking his chin.
Ergander, who was standing to the side, let out a heavy sigh.
"Well, sooner or later this was bound to happen, wasn’t it? How can a Lord defeat a powerful opponent without using his Arc? After the First Circle, it becomes something of a prerequisite when facing someone strong."
Blafor’s eyes widened for a moment as he realized something.
"Wait... Does that mean that bastard from the Befallen Crown is afraid of Adam Vinter?"
Ergnader shrugged. "I think that’s a bit of a bold statement, but now Adam will have to prove that he can actually defeat a Viscount. Now, his real trial has begun. Everything that came before is worth very little if he loses now."
In fact, the other Lords watching the battle thought the same way. They understood that as long as Midgar was without his Arc, he wasn’t using his full power, and therefore wasn’t fighting like a Viscount.
Some of the K4-Phantoms could display power comparable to Adam’s. They could defeat a Baron, but a clash against a Viscount was an entirely different matter.
Well, of all the Lords watching the battle from the sidelines, only one had a different opinion.
"Kha..." Kalyso chuckled hoarsely as a smile spread across his face. "How? How can they not see this?"
With difficulty, he leaned forward slightly, though it sent a wave of pain coursing through his entire body.
"Adam... He still doesn’t see this bastard as a worthy opponent. I don’t know what he’ll have to do to make him realize it, but the fact that he revealed his Arc... Huh, that’s not enough!"
Step!
At that very moment, Midgar stepped forward, shaking the ground with his stride. His aura pulsed as he prepared to unleash his full power upon Adam, who was hovering in the sky.
"Come on, strike me with another one of your blades! I’ll show you that they’re worthless to me now!"
Strangely enough, Adam didn’t ignore his request.
Whoooooosh!
Adam swung his arm as two giant crystal blades appeared to his left and right. He had enough energy to keep creating more. But something inside him told him that these two would be among the last.
Midgar narrowed his blue eyes as he gripped his poleaxe tightly with both hands.
When the giant blades got close enough, he swung widely, shattering them as if they were made of fragile glass.
The fragments scattered across the ground, and his gaze grew more confident and colder.
"That’s not all, Adam. Now your blades won’t even be able to scratch my armor! You can test that if you want, but if I were you, I’d try to run away in fear!"
Tremble!
His frame trembled as he leaped high into the air. The ground behind him cracked and caved in, leaving a deep crater where he had stood.
At the same time, just as Midgar was closing in on Adam to deliver his next devastating strike, Silvana leaned closer to Adam’s ear.
"You know, these blades aren’t the only thing I’m capable of right now. Though... you were right last time. You already know all my powers, don’t you?"
Adam nodded deeply.
"Yes. But... I don’t know how you acquired them. Who trained you?"
Silvana smiled slyly. "You won’t believe me if I tell you. But it doesn’t seem like I have any other choice, does it?"
She closed her eyes, recalling her training sessions. Neither she nor Adam was afraid of Midgar’s approach.
"It was Aiden. He helped me become stronger."
As soon as Silvana said this, Adam’s eyes widened in disbelief.
"What? Him? But... How is that possible?"
Silvana shook her head.
"I don’t understand it myself yet, but he knows a surprising amount about the Operator’s powers. He suggested I do this right after you used the Void Transit and headed to the Tarnished Lands."
Adam was bewildered, and even Midgar, who appeared right in front of him, couldn’t distract him from his thoughts.
BAM!
Midgar attacked, but at the last moment, blue threads appeared in front of Adam, managing to protect him even from Midgar’s sharp poleaxe.
However, the blue threads couldn’t completely block the strike.
As a result, the impact struck Adam, sending him flying to the side.
Whoooooooosh!
Under Midgar’s intense gaze, Adam hurtled toward the ground at high speed and crashed right in the middle of the rocky plain, sending a pillar of dust high into the air.
It was a successful attack, but Midgar wasn’t satisfied with it because he realized one thing:
"That bastard... How dare he let his mind wander during our fight?!"
