Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 1931: Shining Blades and Iron Poleaxe
Previously on Endless Evolution: Last Star...
The Imaginary Blades had long been part of Adam’s arsenal. He and Silvana had used this ability countless times to defeat their opponents and survive difficult situations.
However, this ability had never undergone such changes as it was experiencing now. It wasn’t just due to Silvana’s training, but also to Adam’s heightened energy levels.
Still, even that wasn’t the whole story.
Blink.
Adam blinked as a multitude of runes flashed before his eyes while the crystal blades rained down from the sky, slicing through the heavens.
[Imaginary Blades
[Once upon a time, this power was a simple slash that required both a Phantom and an Operator to activate, but now, this ability has become something greater. These aren’t just blades capable of slashing and cleaving opponents, they’re a power great enough to reshape the battlefield according to your will.]
It was true. So far, not a single blade had appeared in Adam’s hands, but he didn’t need one now, he could attack his opponent from a distance and was doing so quite successfully.
Whoooooooosh!
The crystal blades streaked across the sky and plunged into the ground. They stood close together, reflecting the sunlight coming from afar. This made them look like a wall of light, rising dozens of meters high and stretching for many kilometers.
The wall of light created an arena for Midgar and Adam, where a K4-Phantom and a Viscount could show everything they were capable of and determine which of the two deserved to live on.
"What are you going to do now, Midgar?" Adam asked, his eyes still shining brightly. "Right now, do I have enough energy to attack you endlessly with my blades?"
Midgar narrowed his eyes as his gray wings trembled.
"Are you so sure of that? What makes you think I’ve shown you my full power? You’re just a K4-Phantom! You should be trembling in fear before a Viscount like me!"
Adam smiled faintly as he raised his hand.
"How much pride do you have, Midgar? But that’s never helped anyone."
Tap.
Ripples spread through the air from Adam’s fingers, and soon, white swirls appeared in the air.
With the next tremor, sharp tips emerged from the swirls as crystal blades shot straight toward Midgar.
Last time, Midgar had barely managed to block a single blade and suffered a deep cut on his forearms.
Now, five blades were heading straight for him, enough to slice a hill into several pieces, but there was no fear in his eyes.
He knew that their battle had now reached a new level, and he could no longer fight Adam as just some Elder. If he continued to act carelessly, he might actually lose. That could not be allowed to happen.
"They’re watching." Midgar’s eyes darted to the side. He saw numerous figures hovering in the distance. ’It’s unlikely they’ll intervene, it’s too dangerous for them, but if I lose to a K4-Phantom, it will be a great disgrace for the entire Befallen Crown!’
It was unclear what worried Midgar more at that moment: the reputation of the Befallen Crown or his own life. However, to some extent, these things were connected.
It didn’t matter whether Adam killed Midgar at the end of their battle or not. If Midgar lost, it would all be over for him. Even if Adam spared him, the Befallen Crown would quickly get rid of him, as he would be a disgrace to them.
Step.
Midgar stepped forward as a glint flashed across his eyes. His wings fluttered, and his form turned into a blur.
At that very moment, like a gray bolt of lightning, Midgar swept through five crystal blades, each dozens of times larger than he was.
Crack. Crack. Crack.
Cracks spread across the blades, and just as Midgar reached the top of the last one, they all exploded, releasing a gray flame from their cracks.
Adam watched as shards of the crystal blades fell toward the ground, breaking into smaller fragments until they disappeared completely.
Still, no disappointment or fear appeared on his face. His expression didn’t change at all.
"So you think you can still defeat me easily?"
Midgar took a deep breath, regaining his composure. A single breath was all he needed after such an attack.
"Well, in that case, I’ll have to show you just how wrong you are."
Tremble!
Midgar’s wings trembled as he swept through hundreds of meters, hurtling at tremendous speed straight toward Adam.
All it took was half a second for him to be right in front of Adam and swing his arms. His gray energy claws sliced through the wind, poised to snap Adam’s neck.
Clang!
At the last moment, his claws struck something hard, something that sent a shockwave through his entire body and made his eyes widen.
"What the...?" Midgar was confused as he braced his legs. "If it weren’t for my balance, I would’ve been sent flying to the side!"
Then, his eyes fell on the blade in Adam’s hand. It was just like the giant ones, only hundreds of times smaller, yet it possessed just as much energy.
"I see," Midgar concluded. "So he can exert enough pressure to achieve such a high density of energy? I must be careful. If that blade reaches me, I won’t be able to recover quickly from that wound."
But right now, Midgar wasn’t relying on his strength - he was relying on his speed.
Tap.
He took a step back as a gleam flashed in his eyes.
"Don’t count on being able to fight me on equal terms in close combat!"
Whooooooosh!
He lunged forward, unleashing a flurry of blows on Adam.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
At first, Adam effortlessly blocked every one of Midgar’s attacks. The gray claws couldn’t leave even a scratch on his blade, as the density of their energy was different.
But gradually, Midgar grew ever faster, forcing Adam to retreat step by step.
"Hahaha! What are you going to do now, Adam? Ask your Operator for help?"
True, the situation had become more difficult for Adam. His arms were trembling, and if Midgar got any faster, he wouldn’t be able to avoid getting hurt, but Adam’s gaze remained calm.
"No, I don’t need to ask her for help. She’ll do whatever it takes to ensure my victory. I do not doubt that."
"Then I advise you to use her powers right now if you don’t want to die!" Midgar exclaimed with a smug smirk.
"Why?"
Adam’s cold voice caught Midgar off guard.
"Agh?"
"Why do you look so smug? You can’t defeat a K4-Phantom, in fact... Haven’t you figured that out yet?"
Tap.
In the blink of an eye, another crystal blade appeared in Adam’s left hand.
"All this time, I’ve been blocking all your attacks with just one hand. Let me replicate the very attack you used when we first met."
Before Midgar could react, Adam’s arm sprang into action. Only a swift swing was reflected in Midgar’s wide-open eyes.
SPLASH!
Streams of blood gushed out as a wide gash opened in Midgar’s chest.
All the energy from his wings immediately surged toward his chest in a multitude of streams to stop the bleeding and protect him.
But Adam was faster.
Tap.
The tip of the right crystal blade touched Midgar’s chest as Adam’s cold gaze fell upon him.
"It seems I underestimated my own power." Adam’s voice was full of arrogance. "To defeat a Viscount, I won’t need more than a single ability."
Tremble!
The crystal blade trembled as, in the blink of an eye, eight more identical blades appeared. They were all replicas of the first one.
Then, the nine blades descended upon Midgar as he plummeted toward the ground, while the crystal blades pierced his chest.
Only trails of blood remained in the air, following Midgar in his inevitable crash.
Adam watched as Midgar’s energy tried to shatter his blades and save his owner, and soon, Midgar crashed to the ground with a thunderous roar.
A pillar of dust rose high into the air, obscuring Midgar’s silhouette.
But Adam had no intention of stopping there. He knew how resilient the Lords’ bodies were, especially that of a Viscount. He had to make sure that after this collision, Midgar would at least sustain serious injuries.
Silvana smiled faintly. "Now there’s enough energy in them. You can use them."
"Just in time."
Adam raised his hand, and at that very moment, all the giant blades soared above the ground. At his command, they turned in unison and, in a single surge, flew toward the very spot where Midgar had just fallen.
Bam! Bam! Bam!
One giant blade after another shook the ground until Adam had used them all.
Silence.
Silence fell for a moment as several spectators exchanged glances.
Was Midgar dead?
What injuries had he sustained?
Could he continue fighting?
These were the questions on their minds, and soon, they received their answers.
SLASH!
In a sweeping motion, the cloud of dust was dispersed as a gust of wind blew the dust away, revealing Midgar.
Blood trickled down his forehead and arm, but his energy quickly healed him. Now, his energy had become the gray armor covering his body.
But everyone’s attention was focused on something else.
"I see. So he’s finally decided to show his Lord’s power, huh?"
Adam’s gaze settled on the iron poleaxe in Midgar’s grip, with its broad blade and an amber eye mark resembling that of a dragon.
