Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 1897: An Unexpected Ally

Adam usually didn’t mind fighting, since in most situations it was an opportunity for him to grow stronger.

Also, more often than not, he was confident of victory.

But right now, he had absolutely no desire to fight.

It didn’t matter how strong or weak his opponent might be. Any battle was a risk, since a stray attack could damage the Obsidian Compass even further.

So, Adam wasn’t thinking about how to fight the monster staring at him. He was going to run away to save the compass.

Splash!

A massive splash of water gushed out as a huge serpent emerged. It was bigger than any monster Adam had ever seen before.

"What the hell is it so big...?" Adam muttered as soon as the serpent’s head appeared right in front of him.

The serpent’s green eyes stared intently at Adam. One of its eyes was as big as Adam himself.

Immediately after that, the serpent soared upward as its lower body trembled.

Adam’s instincts kicked in as he realized what was about to happen.

Whooooosh!

The serpent’s tail, like a giant whip, crashed down right on Adam. Its sharp tip sliced through the wind as it moved at tremendous speed.

Even though it was just the tip, it was large enough to blow Adam to bloody shreds rather than simply cut him. The difference in size was too drastic.

"Block it!"

Suddenly, the Silver Weaver’s voice rang out in Adam’s head.

This was the clearest indication that their opponent was far more dangerous than the crabs and giant jellyfish.

Adam’s expression grew serious as the needle in his hand trembled, taking the form of a greatsword.

At that very moment, the serpent’s tip collided with the broad blade of his sword.

Tremble!

A wave of trembling ran through Adam’s entire body as his eyes widened in disbelief.

It was just a single strike that he had blocked, but it felt as though the sheer force would be enough to tear his body to pieces.

Whoooooosh!

At that very moment, the impact sent Adam flying to the side, as he was heading straight toward the water.

"No! If I have to fight this serpent in the water, I’ll be in serious trouble!"

In fact, at that moment, Adam completely forgot about the Obsidian Compass, as he realized this wouldn’t be an easy battle under any circumstances. He feared for his life.

And soon, his fears became all too real.

He raised his head only to meet the serpent’s gaze. The colossal monster towered over him, looking down on him as if he were an ant, while its green eyes shone behind the clouds.

"Can this bastard stand above the clouds? Tsk, that’s not the point. Its aura, it’s definitely Lord Level!"

Then Adam realized for certain that he shouldn’t have even touched the water. He could die right here.

His eyes darted from side to side as he searched for a way out.

’Right, it’s strong and fast, but it seems like it’s just defending its territory, which means these trees are important to it!’

Tremble!

Adam’s body trembled as he raced back toward the island.

The serpent’s pupils narrowed as its tail began to move again.

But just as the tip was about to strike Adam, he made a sudden leap forward, dodging the massive tip that swept past him just in time.

Tap.

After another air leap, Adam found himself on a spacious island that was mostly covered only by bare cliffs and a multitude of gray trees.

"Alright, I’m here, so it’s time to head off in the other direction."

Adam had hoped that the serpent wouldn’t attack him while he was near the trees, but...

Whooooosh!

Before he could take a step, a massive shadow appeared in front of him.

"Damn it!"

Adam took a step back as he braced himself for battle right there on the island. He had no other choice.

The serpent slowly opened its jaw as its green eyes shone brightly against the dark sky.

"WAIT!!!"

The serpent’s voice rang out, but instead of being deep and menacing, it was full of panic and uncertainty.

Strangely enough, this caught Adam off guard even more than the massive island and the serpent that was fiercely defending it.

"Huh...?"

Adam blinked several times as, somehow, all the menacing aura had vanished from the serpent’s eyes.

"Can you talk?"

Blink.

The serpent blinked in response as they stared at each other in silence for a moment.

"Pfffft!" The serpent snorted as it threw its head back. "Of course I can. Do you think someone like me can’t talk? That’s ridiculous!"

Adam was still confused, but his instincts were calm. He felt that the tension before a deadly battle that had filled the air a moment ago had vanished.

"You!" Adam pointed his greatsword at the serpent. "Why did you attack me? Answer me, or I’ll destroy half these trees with a single swing!"

No sooner had Adam spoken than the serpent’s body trembled, and it began to jerk from side to side in panic.

"No! Wait! I asked you to wait! Don’t do this!" the serpent pleaded, its voice trembling slightly.

For a split second, a smug smirk appeared on Adam’s face, but he immediately regained his serious expression.

"Fine, I won’t do it if it’s that important to you, but why did you attack me?"

"To protect these trees!" the serpent replied quickly. "Don’t touch them! The first harvest is coming very soon, I’ve spent a ton of time on them!"

Adam gave the serpent a strange look.

He couldn’t figure out one thing: who the hell was standing in front of him? A dangerous monster or a fool who possessed too much power simply by virtue of his birth.

"Hey, what’s your name?" Adam decided to ask.

"Me?" The serpent pointed at himself with his tail. "Oh, my name is Prasyx. What about you?"

"Adam. My name is Adam Vinter, and I’m a Phantom." Adam decided to say this because he assumed he was facing a very young monster who, due to his kind, possessed such strength and size.

"Oh, sure, I know about you guys." Prasyx waved his tail.

Adam narrowed his eyes.

"Can I ask you something else?"

"Of course, ask away."

"How old are you?"

Prasyx paused for a moment, touching his chin with his tail, before answering:

"I don’t know... A thousand years, maybe two?"
