Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 1896: Trees and white fruits on the island

As it turned out, Adam had practically never used the items for combat or to search for anything along the way.

The Obsidian Compass was one of the few things that wasn’t an ability or an artifact of his, yet was important to him at that moment.

Perhaps that was why he didn’t immediately realize he needed to keep a closer eye on the Obsidian Compass, after all, if anything happened to it, Adam would be in big trouble.

"Wait, wait, wait!" Adam exclaimed inwardly as he approached the compass, carefully picking it up.

"It’s just a crack on the cap; everything else should be fine, right?"

Adam looked at the compass hopefully, but no smile appeared on his face, only a grim expression.

The compass needle was jerking from side to side. Before, it had pointed exactly north and veered slightly west when he reached Island A6, but now it was all over the place.

"Damn it! How could it break from just one punch?!" Adam exclaimed in anger, clutching the compass tightly.

Crack!

The cracks spread further as the compass frame trembled, but something else happened at the same time.

The needle snapped back into place, pointing in the right direction again.

"Seriously?" Adam narrowed his eyes, studying the compass closely. "Tsk, even if the needle is working again, for some reason I feel like my compass is still damaged..."

Adam had thought the glass cap was only there to keep anything from interfering with the needle, but now he realized that protection wasn’t its only function.

The entire compass was a single structure, and as soon as the first cracks appeared, its aura changed as well.

That was exactly why Adam decided that his compass wasn’t completely intact, even though he’d managed to get the needle working.

"Agh..." Adam sighed heavily as he looked up. "Alright, it’s time to get out of here. This jellyfish turned out to be much stronger than I originally thought."

Adam swam toward the surface as he sensed numerous auras in the distance. The sea monsters were watching him, but none of them dared to attack.

They had all seen what Adam was capable of and what he had done to the Dark Crabs and the Blue Jellyfish.

This Phantom was too strong for them.

Still, Adam had one question left.

’Why was that jellyfish trying so desperately to get the compass? Krador didn’t warn me that something like this could happen. And... That jellyfish didn’t even stand a chance against me, but now I’m in trouble because of it!’

Splash!

Adam broke the surface as he glared angrily at Island A6.

"I’ve had enough. I came here to reach the Grand Abyss! I’m not going to get distracted by random islands anymore!"

Deep down, Adam knew it was his fault. He could have gotten rid of the Dark Crabs faster and avoided ending up under the island, and above all, he could have just ignored the island.

Well, he was curious to see what was on the islands, at least on one of them.

"Gha... Alright, that was a mistake, but all is not lost yet." He looked around.

Two more islands were visible in the distance, but they were at the same level as this one, so they were also the closest and safest islands.

" There really wasn’t anything dangerous on the island itself, that’s true, but in the water around it... I need to be more careful."

A moment later, Adam nodded deeply and dashed forward.

As much as he wanted to find out what was on the other islands, he decided against it.

Right now, he had only one goal: to find a suitable passage and reach the Grand Abyss.

Whooooooosh!

Gusts of wind swept past Adam on his left and right as he continued to pick up speed.

From time to time, the compass needle wavered, but it still pointed north, just as before.

Something made Adam frown.

’This place... it’s just huge. How many kilometers have I flown already? I still haven’t reached the second island ring. Looks like I overestimated the number of islands here.’

Well, soon, Adam saw something that made him change his mind.

Suddenly, he stopped as he stared at the massive island ahead. It was more than ten times larger than Island A6.

"What the... Wait, how can this just be an island? There’s enough space here to be a separate territory on some land!"

It was then that Adam realized not all islands were the same as Island A6. On that island, there would barely be enough space for a village, while the island in front of him was almost as large as the lower level of Varreyn.

"And what is that?" Adam narrowed his eyes as he looked at the multitude of trees growing on the island.

The bark of the trees was gray; the trees themselves were quite short and had many branches hanging down.

These trees had no leaves, but hanging from their branches were fruits glowing with a bright white light, shaped like pears.

Adam’s heart began to beat faster as he wanted to find out what kind of fruits they were.

Clutch.

He clenched his fists, shaking his head.

"No, I can’t take that risk. If anything happens to the Obsidian Compass, I’ll never make it to the Grand Abyss."

It was the right decision.

He sighed and pressed on, flying directly over the island.

But... that was a mistake.

As soon as he crossed the island’s border, a violent tremor shook the air. It was strong enough for Adam to feel it through the ripples traveling through the air.

"Agh? Is something happening on the island right now? That can’t be! Or... did this happen because of me? But... I didn’t do anything!"

Adam simply hadn’t thought that flying over the island would trigger any kind of reaction.

Well, to some extent, this island was special because, unlike most, it was already occupied by someone.

A pair of green eyes appeared amid the dark waters, staring intently at Adam as if he were their greatest enemy.
