Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 1561: Blood and Snow
Previously on Endless Evolution: Last Star...
Nobody could have foreseen how immensely powerful Adam would turn with the acquisition of a single ability.
Shock gripped Alexia the hardest among them all, surpassing even Vaarh's reaction, as she stared in utter disbelief at the unfolding events.
"He’s just cutting them down..." she whispered under her breath, scanning the surroundings.
In swift and ruthless fashion, dozens of beasts met their end, their chilled corpses scattered across the terrain like a gory testament to Adam's rampage.
"Alright, I have to get back into the fight, too. I can’t keep standing around!" Rising to her feet, she felt her vitality recharge to its bare minimum.
Though Alexia doubted she could unleash the frost seal once more at such depleted strength, it sufficed to call forth her Nexus and battle the creatures.
Adam's fresh power packed a formidable punch, yet after integrating the Ancient Frost, Alexia held a slight edge over him, boasting greater and thicker reserves of energy.
Clearing out the remaining beasts would propel them nearer to triumph.
"Agh?"
Regrettably, Vaarh grasped their advantage just as keenly.
Thus, he stepped in to disrupt their momentum before disaster struck.
Clang!
A shower of sparks erupted from the iron spear, uniquely positioned to halt Adam's ethereal blades amid the chaos.
This spectacle drew Alexia's gaze, prompting her to blink in rapid succession.
"He decided to protect the monsters?"
"You should take advantage of this." Louis's words echoed in her mind. "The monsters are too afraid of Adam and you. I doubt they’ll help Vaarh. This is your chance to attack him 1 vs. 2."
That insight fueled Alexia perfectly, sparking a broad grin as she balled her hands into fists.
"Alright, then it’s time to show this arrogant dragon what we’re capable of!"
Step.
She stamped the earth hard before propelling herself ahead, cratering the surface in her wake.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
At blistering velocity, Vaarh whipped his spear around to parry every one of Adam's assaults.
Despite Adam wielding dual blades against Vaarh's lone spear, the weapon's extended haft provided ample reach for defense.
Another burst of sparks streaked by, compelling Adam to crease his brow in frustration.
'Something’s wrong.' Alertness surged through Adam. 'How can this be? I’m moving at tremendous speed, I don’t know how much longer my body can take it, yet he sees all my movements and finds a way to block my attacks.'
Maybe Adam would shift strategies, pulling back to strike at Vaarh from a fresh angle.
Yet in that instant, a peculiar sensation hit him.
"Hmm?" His gaze sharpened as an icy breeze swept in from the flank.
BAM!
The frozen fist collided with Vaarh's right jaw in a solid strike.
Such a maneuver lay beyond even his foresight.
Agony and astonishment twisted his features as the force hurled his frame sideways with ferocious momentum.
BAM! BAM! BAM!
Crashing backward, Vaarh shattered multiple ice formations in his trajectory, then flipped through the air to touch down steadily on his feet.
Adam pivoted to find a thrilled Alexia positioned right in front of him.
"Hell yeah! Direct hit! Did you see that punch, Adam?!" She shouted, pumping her fist triumphantly.
Vaarh scowled deeply.
"Tsk, you’re not a Phantom, but a wild beast."
He hawked up a glob of blood and flexed his jaw. Though merely one blow, its force had inflicted real damage on Vaarh.
Nevertheless... Adam held back from reveling in the success.
Rather than rallying the beasts to his aid or repositioning for advantage, Vaarh simply assumed a combat ready posture.
With a gesture, lightning arcs coursed over his form, infusing him with a burst of enhanced might.
Adam and Alexia shared a look. Cunning grins spread across their expressions in unison.
No words passed between them; the glint in their stares and a subtle nod sufficed to launch their coordinated assault.
Whoooooooosh.
Their silhouettes blurred as they both disappeared from view, charging straight at Vaarh.
The beasts, still cowering from Adam and Alexia, appeared baffled. They couldn't fathom Vaarh's choice to engage solo.
Furthermore, they held no faith that one creature could withstand Phantoms of Adam and Alexia's caliber.
Precisely that underestimation was Vaarh's intent. He recognized his power's boundaries and knew he hadn't tapped them fully.
'Come on, attack.'
Vaarh's eyes flickered as Adam and Alexia materialized directly before him. Now he faced the dual threat of two phantom blades alongside Alexia's glacial punches, demanding blocks and evasions.
Yet no trace of dread showed in Vaarh’s gaze. Defeat simply wasn't on his mind.
Clang!
The pair of blades met his spear with a resounding clash while Alexia surged in. Her punch, enveloped in thick energy, aimed unerringly at Vaarh’s flank. A clean connection there could snap bones and trigger severe hemorrhaging.
But... Vaarh perceived it all.
THUMP!
He lifted his leg swiftly, slamming it down to trap Alexia’s wrist against the surface.
"Agh?" Alexia’s eyes bulged in astonishment.
Acting without pause, Vaarh twisted his upper body and drove his knee full force into Alexia’s visage.
Crimson sprayed from her lips, but Vaarh ignored her now, refocusing on Adam gearing up for another onslaught.
Clang. Clang. Clang.
Blade met spear in a frenzy of collisions every second, making Adam’s grip shake while perspiration dotted Vaarh’s brow.
Relentless determination burned in both warriors.
Adam’s stare intensified as he pressed the attack, intent on piercing Vaarh’s torso with his weapons.
But...
That precise opening was what Vaarh had anticipated.
Whooooooosh.
Planting his spear like a pole into the earth, Vaarh seized the handle with both grips, vaulted upward, and then crashed both heels into Adam’s midsection.
"GRH!"
Agonizing torment etched across Adam’s countenance as the blow catapulted him toward the closest ice spire.
"What now?" Vaarh’s smug tone boomed as he flourished his spear.
Alexia daubed the blood from her nostrils and eyed Adam extricating himself from the frozen rubble.
A fresh strategy was essential, and urgently.
Fortunately for the duo, Silvana possessed just the idea.
"Adam, I know what we need to do."
