Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 1562: Hail of Blades (Part 1)
Previously on Endless Evolution: Last Star...
Even though he faced two foes by himself, Vaarh showed he was more than a match for them. Adam and Alexia couldn't manage to overpower him at all.
On top of that, Vaarh's last strike sent both of them flying away.
Not only was he battling them solo, but he was dominating the fight. His quick reactions, swift movements, and devastating hits operated at a superior tier.
Maybe if Alexia activated her ice power and turned nearly untouchable for a brief period, she might have cornered Vaarh. However, she lacked the stamina for it right now.
Thus, they were forced to keep clashing with Vaarh until someone exhausted their power or attempted a fresh tactic.
"What? Got any ideas?" Adam inquired, puzzled.
Silvana served as his key partner, yet in combat, Adam typically called the shots. He engaged directly, sensed the chaos of the field, and drew from vast battle knowledge.
Should Silvana possess a strategy, it must be exceptional, something beyond Adam's current awareness.
"Yes, it involves your recent power. I understand a bit more than you. So... pay close attention. Our victory hinges on this."
Of course, Adam recalled needing to locate one requirement for the Third Grand Star in this place, but that couldn't occupy his thoughts presently. His main focus remained Vaarh, specifically taking him down.
Vaarh and Alexia remained unaware of the exchange between Adam and Silvana, though Alexia soon caught Louis's words.
"Hey, Adam, we need you to ice Vaarh over. Just halting him for half a second would do. Let's try anchoring his feet to the earth. That ought to succeed."
"Hmm?" Alexia arched a brow in annoyance. "I lack the energy to make any of my powers strong enough for that. He should've considered it sooner!"
Louis shook his head.
"Are you certain?"
"Agh?"
"You might not have sufficient star energy at the moment, but you've got the ancient kind."
Alexia’s eyes grew wide.
"Huh... You know how scarce that energy is for me?"
Louis shrugged.
"Isn't it enough for a single strike?"
Alexia grinned broadly as inspiration struck.
"Of course. Count me in!"
From the side, Vaarh observed. He refrained from assaulting not just because defense suited him better and proved more efficient, but also to recover as much energy as he could.
Although he managed to fend off both alone, his energy stores were draining fast.
"I need to endure just a bit more. Monsters..." He scanned the area. "They failed to fulfill the part I envisioned, but I can't rely on them further. One more minute, and triumph is mine."
He squinted, his gaze turning profoundly intense for an instant.
’Soon, I’ll recall the method. I sense it. Nothing beats battling fierce foes to relearn skills or savor the thrill of blood once more!’
Step.
Alexia advanced, capturing Vaarh’s focus. She employed no powers, merely her Nexus.
Meanwhile, Adam shut his eyes oddly and dropped his blades to the earth. He pulled out of the skirmish entirely.
Vaarh had no clue what Adam was up to, but he sensed it spelled trouble for him.
He needed to halt Adam.
’Now!’
Whooooosh.
Vaarh charged ahead, yet a threatening silhouette loomed right in his path.
"Where do you think you're headed, you scum?" Alexia glared down haughtily before slamming her fist toward him.
Vaarh deflected her blow effortlessly with his palm, showing no reaction.
Yet Alexia anticipated this, twisting her body as her foot thrust at Vaarh like a lance.
Whooooosh.
Vaarh dodged by shifting his head aside, Alexia’s metal boot slicing close to his face. The keen edge grazed his cheek, but his expression stayed impassive.
Bam! Bam! Bam!
A barrage of swift blows hammered at Vaarh, though he evaded or parried every one.
Alexia struck with purpose, targeting Vaarh’s vulnerabilities, and eventually chose to gamble. The whole setup led to this instant.
Her hand shot toward his torso.
Vaarh bent backward, assuming that was her aim, but he quickly saw he was wrong.
Clutch.
She seized Vaarh’s spear firmly with one hand while her other fist descended from overhead.
Calmly, without a hint of alarm, Vaarh gripped her fist hard, mirroring how she held his spear.
"What’s this about?" Vaarh scowled, bearing down on Alexia. "You know you can’t take my weapon. You lack the raw power!"
With a fierce bellow, Vaarh pressed in, making Alexia’s legs quiver as he towered above her.
He spoke truly; Alexia couldn’t match Vaarh in sheer physical force. She hated conceding it, since brute strength was her greatest boast, but for the scheme, she accepted it.
Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.
Alexia’s legs shook violently.
Moments more, and her feet would embed in the soil. The ice below her had already fractured. Her bid to wrench the spear from Vaarh seemed a total flop, or... perhaps not?
"Hah, you're every bit the cocky jerk we are, huh?" Alexia scoffed amid the growing strain. "It's beyond dragon arrogance now, something far grander."
Vaarh narrowed his eyes.
"Even if so, what of it? Arrogance is sometimes vital to endure and claim victory."
Alexia grinned broadly.
"Yeah, spot on. That's precisely why you're doomed to fail, jerk!"
In a fleeting moment, purple streams flickered before Alexia as she inhaled deeply.
Vaarh’s body twitched in readiness to evade, but the chance had passed.
Her frost breath, infused with ancient energy, locked his feet solid to the ground.
Yet for Vaarh, worse awaited, as Adam's eyes snapped open and ethereal blades whirled about him.
They stood poised to terminate the ancient dragon's existence right there.
