Endless Debt Chapter 1639 - 122: The World’s Gamble_5
Previously on Endless Debt...
But Aisha is different. She was originally an ordinary person, deeply fearful of death. She often contemplated the finiteness of life, feeling regret and helplessness over its brevity... So Aisha cherishes life, treasures the beauty of the world."
Serey felt saddened by his own sluggishness, thinking that if he had awakened sooner, perhaps everything would have been radically different.
Bologue remained silent, not interested in evaluating Serey’s reflections. Bologue disliked being trapped by the past. Knowing what has already happened, tormenting yourself won’t change anything. The future, however, is different. It hasn’t happened yet, and you have ample opportunity to do better.
"Speaking of which, Olivia, it might be a bit late to say this now, but I still want you to know that because of your existence, I’ve come to understand many things."
Serey moved his body slightly, and as he looked at Olivia, a faint smile finally appeared on his serious face.
Olivia said with disgust, "What are you talking about?"
"Some...some untimely sighs, you know? Aisha once told me that you were the gift she left for me, my tie to the world. At first, I didn’t understand what she meant, but now, I somewhat understand."
Serey’s tone was calm, even somewhat leisurely, like an afternoon idle chat, in stark contrast to the tense atmosphere present.
"You are my bond, the bridge linking me to this world. From you, I can still see Aisha’s shadow. You are her proof of existence, and also the shackle she used to restrain me."
Serey apologized, "I apologize on behalf of Aisha. She used you, your existence, to bind me."
Olivia’s face turned ashen. She didn’t want to discuss this matter. Even though she’d known about it for a long time, it had never made Olivia question Aisha’s love for her.
"Speaking of which, it’s the only way to make a dodging undead filled with love and drive for this world."
Bologue listened to Serey’s reflections, understanding the underlying meaning. Bologue too had experienced similar things.
From beginning to end, Serey never had grand goals, let alone any lofty ideals. Back then, he betrayed the Eternal Night Empire merely for Aisha, and now he left the Undying Club and appeared here, only for Olivia.
Serey never loved this world, but when those he loved lived in this world, Serey would reluctantly show kindness towards it.
The sigh came to an end, and Serey’s expression became resolute. His voice serious, like an irrefutable command.
"I will hold off the Night King. As for how to destroy the Dark Iron Curtain, that’s your task."
With that, Serey extended his hand, slowly and steadily driving the dagger into his palm, gradually tearing open a deep cut. In the astonished gaze of the onlookers, Serey raised his arm, allowing his blood to pour freely.
The others hadn’t yet reacted to what was happening, but Bologue and Olivia realized Serey’s intent.
Bologue questioned, "Are you sure?"
"I’m sure, at least very sure right now," Serey smiled, then became serious again, "So go! Before I change my mind!"
Bologue said no more. Each passing moment now was wasting Serey’s effort.
"Go, head to the Origin Tower!"
Bologue grabbed Palmer, then gestured for the others to follow, diving into the sea of battling people below.
Olivia did not immediately follow Bologue. She stood still for a long time, staring at Serey, as if seeing him anew. This time, Olivia’s eyes carried more than disgust; there was another emotion.
Turning into a shadow, Olivia followed Bologue’s steps. At that moment, a sound broke through the air. Olivia raised her hand, catching the Bloodthirsty Dagger steadily.
"This is useless to me, giving it to you."
Serey’s voice came belatedly.
Olivia glanced back at the swelling rock petals. Her body dissolved into a pitch-black shadow, encapsulating Bologue and the others within, stealthily moving through the shadows of the battlefield.
Serey watched Olivia leave, the slightly heated emotion within his heart gradually calming down. Serey hadn’t felt this way for a long time, as if he became a good father, a hero... These words didn’t really suit him.
"Indeed, some things are unavoidable."
In Serey’s murmurings, his blood spilled onto the earth, mingling with the bones and blood of countless dead. The air was already pungent enough, now it was joined by the blood from Serey.
It spread slowly like invisible smoke, covering the Butcher’s Pit, then the entire Royal City.
Moments later, the war grew more tumultuous. All Night Race members who smelled the Blood of Serey felt the same wrath as the undead, but this fury did not derive from the Devil’s influence but from hatred deep within their bloodlines.
"Serey!"
The Bloodthirsty roared hoarsely. They had no intelligence and did not recognize the existence of Serey, but the hatred in their blood made them howl the forbidden name together.
"Serey!"
Filled with hatred, the shouts echoed across the sky. Even the undead, engrossed in slaughter, paused upon hearing it. As members of the Undying Club, they naturally knew of Serey’s existence and background. Unable to understand the situation, they thought the enemies were cheering for their kind, so they joined in.
"Serey!"
"Serey!"
The sound roared like an avalanche, sharp and raspy like the scraping of swords.
Serey spread his arms, accepting all that with a faint smile. The long-dormant Ether exploded again, layers of scale armor emerged from beneath his robes, tearing apart the delicate fabric, covering him entirely with ancient and intricate Immortal Armor, once again granting him that distant, enduring power.
"Long time no see, Father."
In Serey’s eyes, scarlet light flickered, his voice clear and resonant.
The rising Dark Void condensed, and the vast shadow set its gaze on Serey. Within the Origin Tower, the Night King struggled to rise, chains stretched one by one, filled with cracks, until the endless Ether completely shattered the reality of this place.
Serey saw a pure and absolute darkness erupting from the top of the Origin Tower, continuous like tides.
Once, upon witnessing this sight, Serey’s heart was filled with fear and unease. But now, his mood was surprisingly calm. Serey couldn’t tell if he finally became brave, or if in this ecstatic battlefield filled with friends everywhere, he was no longer alone.
Serey only knew that the long-continuing dark destiny should end today.
This day has finally come.
