Bologue and Aimou discover that Saqin's faction has been experimenting on human embryos to create "Soulless" beings, believing them to be the purest form of humanity. They also learn that the Fall of the Holy City was orchestrated by Devils, but the timing suggests King Solomon's creation of the Soulless wasn't the direct cause. The pair decide to seek the "Initial Scroll," a sacred relic hidden beneath King Solomon's throne in the Golden Palace.

Once, looking up along the cliffs of the Abandoned Land, one could only glimpse the ominously clouded crossroads. Now, that Land of Sin has vanished, and the hazy sunlight can actually pour directly into the bottom of this dark rift. Even though the light was much dimmed, it still gave Holt, who had lived in shadow for years, a sense of relief.

"Damn, have we really been living in this kind of environment all along?"

After relief comes endless complaints.

The station chief of the Desperate Outpost, Holt, looked at the dust swirling beneath the light and sniffed hard, "I was wondering why I keep having rhinitis, it’s all because of this damned place."

"Chief, please keep quiet. As a High Tier Condenser, minor ailments like rhinitis shouldn’t affect you, and no matter how much you complain, it won’t change the environment or be beneficial to the upcoming actions."

A cold voice chimed in from the side, Holt’s deputy, Evan, said.

"Didn’t you realize I was joking?" Holt retorted.

"Chief, are you sure this is a good time for jokes?"

Evan didn’t really want to entertain Holt’s joke, and shifted his gaze from the troublesome chief, giving orders to others.

"Increase firepower, we can’t let a single one through, not even a piece of flesh!"

At the narrow pass from the Gray Stone Rift to the Abandoned Land, the field staff had already stood guard. Hearing Evan’s instructions, those at the frontline literally increased their firepower.

Dozens of tongues of flame spewed out, incinerating the approaching ghouls and creeping flesh carpets into ashes. Besides that, gunfire continuously shot into the sea of flames.

Occasionally, strong ether reactions would rise from the sea of flames, streaks of light bombarding the staff, but they were negated by the ethereal barrier encompassing everyone. Some High Tier Condensers were nearby, ready to strike at any moment, hunting down hostile High Tier Condensers.

Even before the fall of Gray Stone Town, the joint offensive of the Sanguine Rot Sect and the Rebellious Royal Court had already bypassed the town, advancing along the Gray Stone Rift, but at this strategic pass, they met with fierce resistance from the Order Bureau.

The narrow terrain left no room for either side to dodge, forcing them into direct combat, the clash of blades unavoidable.

Holt stood behind the crowd, appearing carefree but keeping his gaze firmly fixed on the battlefield.

Guarding the Abandoned Land was indeed a cushy job, but if anything happened there, it would be a big deal.

At this moment, Holt had already figured out a string of countermeasures, for example, if the defensive line were to collapse, he would take action, crashing down the rock walls, blocking the pass with rubble. If the enemy could still invade, then the Desperate Outpost would transform into a fortress, a turret, continuing to fire back at the enemy.

However, the likelihood of these scenarios was low, as Holt didn’t think the enemy could breach such a tightly defended line. What truly worried Holt was something else.

"Is the Calamity of this world still stable?"

Holt turned to look toward the Abandoned Land shrouded in ash. Even from such a distance, he could still clearly see the hazy flames rising from the ruins.

"The core area is still stable, but the flesh in the peripheral areas is becoming increasingly restless, as if disturbed by some force."

The voice of a team member sounded in the Heart Core Net, along with a series of crossbow volleys.

"We’re trying our best to suppress it."

On the high platform of the Desperate Outpost, the giant crossbows continued to fire, shooting Black Arrows into the writhing flesh below, creating a low-hanging thunderstorm. Relentless thunder rang out, rotting the extended flesh entirely, but mere seconds later, they regrew, climbing swiftly up the cliff.

"Someone is trying to awaken the Calamity of this world, it’s someone from the Sanguine Rot Sect... I’m curious where exactly he is?"

While overseeing the battle and maintaining stability, Holt spread out his ethereal perception, attempting to locate the enemy’s key figures amid the chaotic battlefield.

If he could find the opponent, Holt was confident in his ability as a Defender to swiftly eliminate them, even if the enemy had a Defender of their own, he was sure he could kill the target before the enemy Defender could respond.

The problem was, Holt had searched several times without finding the target. Who knows what the Sanguine Rot Sect and Rebellious Royal Court were plotting, leaving Holt to only stabilize the defensive line without daring to launch a reckless assault.

"How’s the situation over at Gray Stone Town?"

"The last message came in about a dozen minutes ago, saying it had already completely fallen."

Another voice echoed in his mind, emanating from the Heart Core Net of the Order Bureau.

Holt sighed, something he had anticipated. This time, the enemy’s offensive was grander than he imagined. The Sanguine Rot Sect and the Rebellious Royal Court advancing in unison, as if the devils behind them had resolved to execute some bloody purpose.

"Any new instructions from the Decision Room?" Holt inquired.

Several seconds later, a cold voice responded.

"Hold your positions."

This answer was also within Holt’s expectations. He gripped the hilt of his sword tightly, the pressure of the ether silently releasing. This was not just a threat to the enemies, but also sending them a message.

Before them stood a Defender, and to cross this realm, they must pay the appropriate price, such as having another Defender face Holt.
