Bologne grappled with the revelation that 'Wolfgang Gold' was a title passed down through history, not a single individual. He questioned if Hill, who he last saw tempted by the Devil, was the same person as King Solomon, noting the Devil's persistent presence. Bologne pieced together a possible timeline, including Hill's teacher, senior brother Saqin, and a mysterious Suzi, all while trying to confirm Hill's identity and his connection to the Dawn War and the Fall of the Holy City.

"Soulless ones."

From the literal understanding, it refers to those without a soul.

How is that possible? How can humans not possess a soul?

Bologue thought about this, and suddenly, his mind stuttered for a moment.

No...

Bologue recalled primeval matter, which is a substance without a soul. Through research on primeval matter, scholars speculate that ether is external energy and that the Ethereal Realm overlaps with the Material Realm.

Based on various pieces of information above, one can conjecture that the earliest, true, and pure humans were without souls.

The soul that humans now possess seems more like a product of distortion caused by ether on themselves.

Is Saqin researching primeval matter? Exploring pure humans, Soulless ones?

After a brief surprise, Bologue calmly accepted this—it was very normal. It’s worth noting that the primeval matter held by the Order Bureau originally belonged to King Solomon, and Raymond Gaudent scholars’ research on these things is also normal.

"Bologue!"

Aimou’s voice awakened Bologue from his thoughts.

Bologue turned his head, "Any findings?"

Aimou’s expression was somewhat unusual, appearing as if struggling to suppress her panic. "He... they are studying some very peculiar things."

"Like?"

Bologue walked over to those strange yet exquisite sketches, Aimou explained anxiously beside him.

"This is an embryo."

Bologue hesitated for a moment, guessing, "A human embryo, right?"

Aimou nodded, whispering, "They violated ethical consensus by conducting numerous experiments on human embryos, attempting to create a life form called the Soulless."

"Humans without souls created under conditions completely immune to ether’s influence," Bologue said.

"Yes, they believe this is the truest and purest human form," Aimou continued, "but as for the specific utility of the Soulless, I’m not sure. These are just related information from the experiments."

Aimou marveled, "The most crucial thing... it seems they’ve succeeded."

"Succeeded?"

Bologue was astounded; this was beyond what he expected.

"Within this data, they mentioned something called the Abyssal Well, where they refined much primeval matter. As for embryonic information about the Soulless, there’s not much detailed here."

Aimou witnessed a corner of past shadows, and felt only a chill that penetrated to the bone, "What exactly are they researching?"

Thinking this, Aimou said softly to Bologue, "Now it seems, the Fall of the Holy City seems to deliberately conceal something."

Bologue sat back on his chair, hesitated for a moment, then decided to confess to Aimou.

"Yes, you’re not mistaken, the destruction of the Fall of the Holy City was deliberate by Devils."

Bologue told Aimou the story he knew from Leviathan, he couldn’t bear this alone anymore, moreover, one’s strength is limited, even the powerful Order Bureau would eventually choose the path of United.

"King Solomon was Leviathan’s debtor, the Chosen One. Driven by Leviathan, King Solomon was conspiring something, a force strong enough to break the balance of Devils, and his actions were exposed, prompting a united strike by the Devils, which led to the Fall of the Holy City."

Bologue’s words were brief, yet full of information, and Aimou was left stunned, pausing for a while, not shocked, but rather suspicious.

"No... the timing doesn’t match."

"What is it?"

"The Fury of Scorched Earth erupted in Rhein Calendar 1171, and only six years later was the Fall of the Holy City. If action was due to the Soulless, the Devils’ response seems overly sluggish."

Aimou spoke as she tore off a piece of sketch paper, pointing to a line of numbers for Bologue.

"This isn’t an experimental parameter but the date of successful experimentation," Aimou explained, "Rhein Calendar 1151, the embryo of the Soulless was successfully cultivated."

"And this is nearly thirty years away from the Fall of the Holy City."

Aimou analyzed, "If your statement is correct, then what truly caused the Devils’ siege wasn’t the Soulless; King Solomon created something else."

Bologue and Aimou were both rendered speechless, then Aimou quietly gathered these sketches, documents—it was already very difficult for her alone to decipher these messages, she must take these materials back to the Sublimation Furnace Core.

"Regrettably, that Soulless should have already perished."

Bologue leaned on one side, rubbed his forehead hard, "If they indeed cultivated the Soulless and allowed the embryo to successfully grow into a person, then... then so many years have passed, even if not dead, it should be a decrepit old man."

Calculating by time, nearly a hundred years have passed, ordinary people may not live that long, let alone the Soulless, used as experimental subjects.

Soulless ones, meaning, Soulless ones cannot integrate into the Alchemy Matrix, unable even to become Condensers.

Bologue temporarily couldn’t fathom what the point of the Soulless was, except to prove the purity of humanity... perhaps they could be used for trade with Devils; in the Devils’ eyes, pure humans should be exceptionally precious entities.

"If the Soulless can replace existing humans, maybe it can drive the Devils out of this world," Bologue muttered.

"But this would also destroy all existing Ethereum Technology," Aimou said as she kept packing, "then, we wouldn’t even need Devils to act, those groups mastering Ethereum Technology would eradicate us first."

"Idealism is still too insubstantial," Bologue understood Aimou’s meaning, "Only interests can truly determine a faction."

"Let’s keep moving."

Aimou surprisingly felt motivated, "We must hurry to the next place."

"Where to? Do you have a destination in mind?" Bologue asked.

Aimou said, "These encrypted texts indirectly mentioned a peculiar thing, the scholars called it the ’Initial Scroll’."

"What is it?"

"They didn’t specify clearly, but from the disclosed information, they regarded this thing as some sort of Holy Relic," Aimou continued, "It is located within the Golden Palace, beneath King Solomon’s throne, above Abyssal Well."

"That does sound important," Bologue perked up, tightened his grip on the Resentful Bite, "Do you think Saqin’s authority could allow us direct access to the Golden Palace?"

Without waiting for Aimou’s response, Bologue replied to himself internally, "It should."

From the message, Saqin called Hill his junior, plus contended for the inheritance of the name Wolfgang Gold, it can be seen Saqin holds considerable status and strength within Raymond Gaudent, despite past conflicts with Hill, but during the final Fall of the Holy City, he reconciled.

Hence, they should open the path to the Golden Palace.

With such thoughts in mind, Bologue last inspected the research lab, confirmed no omissions, and the Deceitful Snake Scale Liquid wrapped up the materials Aimou collected, afterwards Aimou and Bologue overlapped, both standing in front of the research lab door.

If every door opening and closing is random, how do scholars ensure their intended destination, by repeatedly trying?

Bologue touched the badge at his collar, muttering to himself, "Or, is it before passing through the Curved Path Gate, silently chant the place you want to go in your heart?"

Golden Palace, Golden Palace...

Bologue recited internally, Aimou listened to Bologue’s babbling helplessly, in such a serious scenario, Bologue’s behavior seemed absurdly whimsical, yet also somewhat relaxing.

"Soulless ones..."

Aimou continued pondering the various information she explored, unable to suppress her doubts.

"Can people truly survive without a soul?"

Bologue plunged into the darkness, racing towards the truth hidden in historical shadows.
