Bologue enjoyed a moment of peace and the return of sunlight to the city after a long absence. This tranquility was shattered by a massive, city-wide explosion. As chaos erupted and alarms blared, Bologue made his way to the Order Bureau. There, he learned from Nesanel that their forces had suffered a surprise attack by a joint operation from the Rebellious Royal Court and the Crimson Corruption Sect, with Gray Stone Town already lost.

"According to the last message we received, the Regent King has personally appeared on the battlefield..."

Nesanel’s words carried an added chill. "This time the enemy’s goal is very clear, and their execution is very strong. We can’t figure out why they suddenly became so aggressive."

"What is their target?" Bologue asked.

"If our speculation is correct, it should be the ruins of the Holy City beneath the Great Rift," Nesanel said.

At the mention of the Holy City, Bologue’s hands paused for a moment. That place was the core of all mysteries, the resting place of King Solomon’s legacy.

"Can the Desperate Outpost hold?"

Bologue asked in concern. If what Nesanel said was true, then this sudden conflict would be on the same level as the Decay Plague incident. In all these events, the Seekers of Glory had appeared.

"In the past, relying on the power of the large-scale Void Realm Serenity Defense Line, it wasn’t difficult to resist the incursion of a single Seeker of Glory. But this time, the Rebellious Royal Court has joined forces with the Crimson Rot Sect."

Bologue heard the implication in Nesanel’s words, and his shock deepened. "A Calamity of This World?"

"That’s right. We still don’t know what method the Crimson Rot Sect used, but now a Calamity of This World that should have been slumbering has grown restless again. That mountain-like mass of flesh is moving on a large scale toward the Holy City. The Desperate Outpost is trying to control the situation and has no strength left to deal with incursions from outside."

Nesanel tried to put Bologue at ease. "Don’t be nervous. The other action teams have already been deployed. They’re moving along the Gray Stone Rift, trying to intercept the enemy."

Bologue picked up his sword and axe, looking eager to move. "I’ve fought the Regent King before..."

"You have another mission, Bologue."

Nesanel cut Bologne off. As he finished speaking, he turned slightly, revealing the door behind him that led to the Ruins District.

"The enemy’s target is the Holy City. They even manipulated and awakened a Calamity of This World for this... You should also know how unstable the Holy City’s condition is."

"The radiance burns out, and Calamity stirs again."

Bologue murmured. Exploring the Holy City had always been part of the plan, but it seemed that under the pressure of the Regent King, everything had to be brought forward.

"Regrettably, we’re not sure if we can fully protect the Holy City from the enemy’s offensive. Because of that, all plans have to be moved up."

As he spoke of these things, Nesanel felt a faint, inexplicable sense of fate. Many years ago, they had taken this city; now they had to defend it, even at the cost of their lives.

"Bologue, according to the Decision Room’s orders, you must immediately head to the Ruins District, find the path to the Holy City, and collect as much of King Solomon’s legacy as you can, while we try to keep the revived Calamity and the invading enemy under Control and buy you time."

Bologue nodded silently. He had guessed this arrangement from the very beginning, but for a moment he still couldn’t understand why the Rebellious Royal Court and the Crimson Rot Sect had suddenly chosen to launch an attack at this time.

It was as if, in places unseen by all, a great ruthless hand was stirring the situation, whipping up storm clouds and accelerating the advance of strife and the ferocity of war.

"I understand what you mean. But before that, I need to rally my team members." Bologue glanced at the door leading to the Ruins District and added, "Exploring that damned place alone is a bit too troublesome."

"Who?"

Nesanel asked straightforwardly.

"The one who won’t get in my way."

Nesanel inexplicably smiled. He snapped his fingers, and the space at Bologue’s side began to twist and distort. A crooked path tore open, and a figure appeared out of thin air.

"Hmm-hmm~"

The blurred figure gradually came into focus. She was humming a tune, and she seemed to be in a good mood.

From her point of view, she had just gotten up, tidied herself, put on her clothes and work badge, and was standing in front of the mirror doing a final bit of grooming before heading out to work.

Yet in the blink of an eye, she left her familiar little den and appeared directly in front of a crowd.

Bologue could clearly see the lightning-fast changes in Aimou’s expression—relaxed, then tense, then despairing with a touch of social-death-level embarrassment. Her humming cut off abruptly, and the mirror reflecting her vanished, replaced by the boss of her boss.

Aimou said stiffly, "G... good morning, Deputy Director."

Nesanel didn’t pay any attention to Aimou’s various reactions. He spoke with complete professionalism: "Employee Aimou Yazhede, you are being urgently assigned to a Field Operations Department mission."

"Oh, oh."

The characters flickering in her eyes showed Aimou’s chaotic thoughts. She had clearly just gotten out of bed, only to be suddenly yanked here. No one could react to that instantly.

Until Aimou spotted Bologue standing to the side.

"We don’t have much time. You have five minutes to prepare and depart," Nesanel said, glancing at his watch. "The Furyas will guide you until you arrive at the Holy City."

"What about you, Deputy Director?" Bologue suddenly asked.

"Me?" Nesanel hesitated a moment, then said, "I’ll set off for the Gray Stone Rift. King against King, Seeker of Glory against Seeker of Glory. I’ll try to intercept the Regent King there."

"Is this all the Seekers of Glory the Order Bureau has left?"

Bologue asked again. In his understanding, the Order Bureau had very few Seekers of Glory. Had most of them fallen in that secret war years ago?

"Each to their own post."

Nesanel did not answer Bologue’s question head-on, but instead urged, "Do what you’re supposed to do."

Seeing this, Bologue had nothing more to say. He gave Aimou a concise rundown of the situation, and the two of them began to gather whatever they might need for the upcoming operation.

"Why did you think of me this time?" Aimou asked in a small voice.

"Because I really can’t read those abstruse books and need a translator," Bologue said with some helplessness. "So as a complete illiterate, I can only trouble the amazing Miss Aimou."

"Heh-heh."

Aimou chuckled twice. "Now that sounds more like it."

Seeing Aimou so pleased with herself, Bologue again confirmed that she really was like a child—surprisingly easy to coax.

Thinking this, Bologue lowered his head, just about to slide Grudgebite back into the Sword Bag, when another face filled his vision.

"What are you two talking about?" Furya was leaning over the edge of the table, asking curiously.

"Yeah, yeah."

Bologue turned his head, and the other side was already packed with Furyas. Looking to the other side again, Aimou was likewise surrounded by Furyas. The two of them were completely encircled.

"Talking about the next job," Bologue replied with a straight face. "Infiltrate the Ruins District, find the Holy City, and do what we’re supposed to do."

Furya lowered her head, looking thoughtful, then turned her gaze to Aimou. "Are you sure about this, Bologue? You’re an Undead, so the operation isn’t all that risky for you by nature, but she’s just a Prayer Believer..."

Furya was learning fast. Her brief time in the Field Operations Department had given her a lot of tactical and strategic knowledge, and like the other ones, she could use efficient calculations to judge whether a team’s composition was reasonable.

"No, she’s very good," Bologue said, without much explanation. "You’ll see in a bit."

"Huh?"

In less than five minutes, Bologue had finished checking his gear. To reward his work in exploring the Ruins District, Mamo had gone to great lengths to reverse-engineer a small amount of Void Shedding Sword Oil to replenish what Bologue had used up earlier.

These strange substances that could cleave open crooked paths would play a crucial role when necessary.

Bologue said, "All right, we can go."

"Does this count as overtime?"

Aimou was still a bit dazed. She had woken up only to be dragged into a deadly mission, but come to think of it, this was just daily life for employees of the Order Bureau.

Peace was always fleeting; accidents were the eternal main theme.

"Probably."

After Bologue said that, he opened his arms as if to hug Aimou. Aimou stepped into his arms, and with a flash of dazzling light, she disappeared, leaving only a pile of empty clothes falling to the floor. At the same time, a golden halo appeared in Bologue’s eyes.

The Furyas looked at the clothes on the ground, then at Bologue, and a few seconds later they all let out a collective shriek.
