Max chooses a more secluded route to the Ten Shadows Trial, separating from Damian and Revona to avoid drawing unwanted attention. Despite Anna's warnings and Max's preference for solitude, he is ambushed by a group of six devils. These devils, ranging from the 3rd to the 6th level of the Divine Lord Realm, have clearly positioned themselves to intercept him.

The devil with the saber chuckled when he noticed how calmly Max was sizing them up. "You're awfully composed for someone in your position."

Max looked back at him. "Should I be scared?"

A few of the devils smiled at that.

The 5th level devil stepped forward. His skin was crimson, four short horns lined his forehead, and a black spear rested in his hand. "So the rumors weren't exaggerated," he said. "The Law Manifestation Realm Primordial who wiped out Greyjin with one finger really does have some arrogance in him."

Max's eyes narrowed a little.

They knew about the Battle Space, which meant they hadn't just picked up the trail of some random Primordial leaving Bloodstone City. They had been waiting specifically for him.

The devil with the saber laughed. "You made quite an impression yesterday. Half of Bloodstone City is talking about you."

Another one spoke up. "A Law Manifestation Realm cultivator who can kill a Divine Lord Realm genius of the Dragon Race using nothing but his body. Of course people are curious."

Max glanced between them. "Curious enough to send six Divine Lord Realm cultivators after me?"

The devil with the spear gave a cold smile. "Curiosity is part of it."

His gaze crawled slowly over Max. "But there are other reasons too."

Max understood immediately.

His strength had risen far past anything his cultivation realm should allow, and to anyone who didn't know the truth, the obvious explanations were an extraordinary inheritance, a powerful treasure, a rare bloodline, or some ancient body cultivation method. In the Godslayer's Pilgrimage, any one of those was reason enough to kill a man.

At last the strongest devil moved and stepped down from the ridge.

The moment his foot touched the ground, heavy pressure rolled across the area. The rocks beneath him cracked slightly as faint crimson-black energy began circling his body, and his eyes never left Max.

"There's no point wasting time on talk," he said.

His voice was calm, and it was far too calm. That alone told Max more than every threat the others had made. This devil hadn't come to test him or to challenge him, and he definitely hadn't come to negotiate.

Max looked around one more time.

Six devils, and every escape route sealed off. Two of them stood at the 5th and 6th levels of the Divine Lord Realm, while the rest were placed to stop him from slipping away if the stronger two failed to finish him quickly. Every part of the formation had been set up in advance.

Max's lips curved into a faint smile.

Anna had been right. He had barely left Bloodstone City, and someone was already trying to kill him.

The 6th level Divine Lord Realm devil took another step forward as killing intent finally flooded the barren land.

This was no robbery. It was a planned assassination.

"Kill him!"

The 6th level Divine Lord Realm devil wasted no more time, and the moment those words left his mouth, the whole atmosphere around Max changed.

Apart from the 5th level devil near the front and the leader at the 6th level, the other four were all at the 3rd level of the Divine Lord Realm or below. Even so, not one of them showed any sign of taking Max lightly. They had clearly heard enough about the Battle Space to know that his cultivation realm said nothing about his real strength.

The four weaker devils moved together. Their auras erupted, and each of them activated a pseudo cosmic path without a moment of hesitation.

Dark pressure spread across the barren land.

One devil called up a field of crimson chains that tore through the air like living serpents, while another released a black flame spear wrapped in corrupted law power. The third shaped an enormous claw out of blood-red energy, and the last condensed countless dark blades around himself before sending them at Max from behind.

The attacks came from four directions at once, and none of them were probing strikes. Every one of them was meant to kill.

Max's expression didn't change.

The Dimensional Sovereign Body activated quietly, and the space around him seemed to unfold before his perception.

Every movement became clear to him. He could see the path of the crimson chains, the angle of the black spear, the arc of the giant claw, and the dozens of dark blades closing in from behind. More than that, he could see the gaps between them, the places where their attacks would overlap, and the precise moment all four techniques would reach him.

Rather than dodging, Max raised his right hand.

Golden flames burst to life across his palm. They were Primordial Flames.

In the past, he had always relied on activating the bloodline ability through his third eye whenever he wanted to release them. After using them repeatedly and practicing, though, he had slowly learned to draw a portion of the Primordial Flames straight out through his body.

The power wasn't equal to what he could unleash through a full bloodline activation, but it was enough for this.

The golden fire burned quietly around his right hand, and almost at once, a glowing blue void ring formed around his wrist.

As soon as the ring appeared, the Primordial Flames were drawn toward it. The golden fire vanished from his palm and poured into the ring, and the blue color started to change.

Within a single breath, the entire ring had turned pure gold. Wisps of Primordial Flame occasionally leaked from its surface before being hauled back inside, as though the ring were forcing down something far too powerful for its size.

The Ten Void Sealing Art began compressing the flames, over and over, squeezing them inward until their power grew frighteningly dense.

Max's eyes stayed calm as the four attacks finally reached him.

Then he moved. He raised his right fist and drove it into the ground.

Boom!

The earth beneath him simply disappeared. It didn't crack, and it didn't collapse. The violent release of compressed Primordial Flames erased it entirely.

A golden wave burst outward from Max's fist, spreading in every direction at terrifying speed and forming a circular tide of purification around him.
