Devouring Evolution: I Reborn as an Arctic Wolf Chapter 3: Chapter 3: Going Out Hunting.

Previously on Devouring Evolution: I Reborn as an Arctic Wolf...
Su Lin's rapid growth over the past month has astounded his family, as he now rivals younger Arctic Wolves in size and strength. After enduring a period of intense evolution thanks to the Potential Potions, he discovers his impressive speed surpasses even that of adult wolves. With the pack away hunting and the urgent need for food looming, Su Lin decides to venture out on his own, seeking to contribute to his family's survival. As he steps into the harsh Arctic landscape, he braces himself against the chilling cold, heedful of the system's warnings about the dangers that lie ahead.

Surviving the brutal frost of the Arctic demands more than raw power; it requires keen observation.

In this frozen wasteland, a variety of small herbivores exist alongside the more prominent large predators.

The Arctic Rabbit is a primary member of this group.

While Su Lin had originally intended to follow Wolf Dad and Wolf Mom on their hunt, he soon changed his mind during the trek.

This decision came after he stumbled upon several Arctic Rabbit nests along his path.

Arctic Rabbits are social creatures by nature.

They are not exactly rare within the Arctic Circle, even if they aren't found in massive abundance everywhere.

Currently, a group of at least seven or eight Arctic Rabbits was gathered before Su Lin, busy chewing on the moss hidden beneath the frost.

"You"ll be my meal today," he mused.

Su Lin’s eyes shimmered with anticipation as he observed the warren of rabbits, which varied in size.

He deduced that this was a family unit, as several young ones had emerged to forage for food.

In the wild, such groups containing offspring are frequently the primary targets for predators.

He felt no pity for them, however.

Ultimately, the law of the jungle is the survival of the fittest, and it remains the supreme rule among wild beasts.

"System, scan their attributes."

With a simple thought, the data for several rabbits in the distance materialized before him.

Species: Arctic Rabbit (Male).

Level: 3.

Qi-Blood: 320.

Endurance: 28.

Strength: 8.

Defense: 12.

Speed: 53.

...

Species: Arctic Rabbit (Female).

Level: 2.

Qi-Blood: 282.

Endurance: 16.

Strength: 5.

Defense: 9.

Speed: 47.

....

Scanning the group, Su Lin saw that a dominant male possessed the highest stats, reaching Level 3.

Its speed was a shocking 53, and the female rabbits were similarly swift.

It became clear why Wolf Dad and Wolf Mom usually ignored them.

In this snow-covered terrain, chasing down such incredibly fast prey was simply too exhausting.

Considering the size and appetite of his parents, catching a few rabbits wouldn't satisfy their hunger, nor would it justify the massive expenditure of energy required to catch them.

For Su Lin, however, these concerns were trivial.

His own speed was exceptional, even surpassing that of the dominant male rabbit.

Furthermore, his physical strength was tied directly to his endurance.

Restoring that endurance only required a bit of rest and a small snack to reach full capacity again.

Therefore, even if he exhausted his stamina, catching a single rabbit would be a break-even trade, and catching two or more would result in a net gain.

Without delaying further, Su Lin pressed his body against the frozen earth, his gaze fixed intently on the nearby rabbits.

"Catch the leader first," he resolved, setting his sights on the dominant male.

Su Lin began to creep forward.

The rabbit colony was clearly on high alert.

Sensing something, they pricked up their ears and scanned the area, with the male rabbit hopping about and peering nervously in Su Lin's direction.

It was the raw, instinctual intuition animals possess toward impending doom.

Fortunately, Su Lin's camouflage was flawless; his snow-white fur blended perfectly with the ground as he lay low, making him nearly invisible.

He remained motionless, waiting in silence.

Finding nothing out of the ordinary, the rabbits returned to their moss.

Su Lin resumed his slow approach.

He moved in increments—advancing a few inches before pausing, then moving again.

After a long period of patience, he finally closed the gap to less than thirty meters.

A nearby bush provided the necessary cover; without it, the watchful rabbits would have spotted him long ago.

Su Lin began to mask his presence entirely.

Given his velocity and the reaction time of the male rabbit, a thirty-meter distance was sufficient.

He aimed for a decisive, one-hit kill, hoping to eliminate several targets before the colony could scatter, thus saving his Physical Strength for any necessary cleanup.

Speed would be the deciding factor!

Su Lin took one final, slow step forward, coiling his muscles like a spring ready to snap.

He was as still as a statue, but about to be as fast as a lightning bolt.

In fact, Su Lin's speed at this moment far exceeded that of any rabbit!

A white blur, resembling a streak of lightning, suddenly lunged toward the unsuspecting male rabbit that was still busy grazing.

"Roar!"

At a distance of ten meters, the rabbit finally sensed the threat.

Su Lin let out a sharp howl and kicked his speed into a higher gear.

The male rabbit began to flee in a blind panic, darting without a clear path.

However, because Su Lin was prepared and naturally faster than his prey, the rabbit stood little chance.

The ten-meter gap was far too small for the rabbit to escape Su Lin's reach.

As he closed in, Su Lin leaped into the air, unsheathing his razor-sharp Wolf Claws.

He descended with a heavy pounce, his claws striking the male rabbit's neck with precision.

The impact combined 30 points of Strength with a 60 Speed bonus.

Such a force would injure even a full-grown Arctic Wolf, let alone a small rabbit.

The sound of snapping neck bones echoed as the pounce landed. The lead rabbit collapsed into the snow, twitching as blood leaked from its face.

Su Lin didn't stop to admire his kill; he immediately pivoted to chase the others.

The remaining rabbits had finally reacted and were scattering in every direction.

Several younger rabbits, however, were far too slow to escape.

Survival of the fittest.

Su Lin showed no mercy to the young ones, pouncing forward and shattering their spines with his heavy paws.

....

Thirty minutes later.

"Roar!"

The long, echoing howl of the Arctic Wolf, paired with the blood-stained snow and rabbit carcasses, marked the end of the one-sided massacre!

The harvest was significant.

He had successfully killed six Arctic Rabbits in total.

One male, one female, and four juveniles.

After surveying his prizes while panting from the exertion, Su Lin walked over to the male rabbit's body and sank his Fanged Teeth into the meat.

"Ding! The host gains 1 Evolution Point for consuming an Arctic Rabbit."

Encouraged by the system's voice, Su Lin began to eat even more hungrily.

"Ding! The host gains 0.8 Evolution Points for consuming an Arctic Rabbit."

"Ding! The host gains 0.6 Evolution Points for consuming an Arctic Rabbit."

.....

While every food source provided Evolution Points, the initial intake always yielded the highest amount.

The rewards would diminish as he continued to eat the same type of prey.

By the time he finished the male rabbit and one of the young ones, the system notification had dropped to 0.1 points.

"Roar!"

Su Lin howled, feeling full after consuming two of the rabbits.

He stopped eating and scanned the horizon. Then, he lowered his head to gather the remaining carcasses and began the trek back to his cave.

Su Lin was unaware, however, that his entire hunt had been witnessed by an explorer in a distant vehicle.

Inside the off-road vehicle, an explorer named Tiffany sipped her tea and peered through her binoculars in admiration. "Tsk, tsk, tsk... what a stunning, pure white Arctic Wolf. For a Lone Wolf to take down so many rabbits at once, its hunting prowess is incredible. It might even grow to be a true Arctic Wolf King one day."

Tiffany made the comment jokingly, having no idea which pack the wolf belonged to.

She was also completely unaware that the wolf she was praising was actually a cub only one month old.
