Devouring Evolution: I Reborn as an Arctic Wolf Chapter 4: Chapter 4 The Wolf Pack is Surprised.

Previously on Devouring Evolution: I Reborn as an Arctic Wolf...
Su Lin, now fully adapting to his life as an Arctic Wolf, sets out for a hunting expedition. Initially intending to join his parents, he instead discovers a warren of Arctic Rabbits and decides to target the dominant male. Utilizing his speed and camouflage, Su Lin successfully takes down the lead rabbit and continues his hunt, capturing several others, including young rabbits, with ruthless efficiency. As he feasts on his catch, his actions do not go unnoticed—an observer in a distant vehicle admires his prowess, unaware of his true age and origins.

To bring the four remaining Arctic Rabbits back to the den, Su Lin was forced to make two separate trips.

When he dropped the carcasses before his cousin, Wolf Sister, and the other cubs, he noticed a clear look of astonishment in their eyes, followed by admiring howls of wonder.

As members of the Wolf Clan, Arctic Wolves are mammals possessing a level of intelligence that, while significant, cannot be compared to that of humans.

Consequently, the fact that his sister and cousin could even manifest such visible surprise and respect was already beyond Su Lin's expectations.

Complex emotions like total disbelief or profound shock are likely exclusive to the human mind at this level of development.

"Ao."

Su Lin let out a low growl as he grabbed the body of an Arctic Rabbit cub and tossed it toward them.

Since he was the one who had secured the kill, his sister and the others likely wouldn't have dared to take a single bite without his explicit signal.

With his permission granted, the young wolves began to feast with absolute joy.

The little orphan wolf, in particular, ate with the most frantic energy.

It even attempted to steal meat from the weaker cousin—an act witnessed by Su Lin, who had been lying nearby to recover his stamina.

Rising to his feet, Su Lin delivered a swift blow with his paw, sending the orphan wolf tumbling three or four meters away.

"You’ve turned against me."

Su Lin let out an angry howl.

Between the furious roar and the heavy impact of the strike, the orphan wolf scrambled up and immediately began to whimper in a panicked apology.

"Ao ao ao."

The law of the jungle, where the strong are revered, was perfectly demonstrated once again.

After whining for a time and seeing that Su Lin had calmed down to resume his rest, the orphan wolf cautiously crept back toward the Arctic Rabbit.

However, it didn't dare entertain another thought of stealing; after taking a few humble bites of fresh meat, it slunk back into a corner.

It was clear that the cub who had once been the bully of the litter had learned its lesson.

Furthermore, a touch of confusion lingered in its terrified gaze.

It could not comprehend how the runt who could barely stand a short while ago was now able to overpower it so effortlessly.

Moreover, Su Lin had grown significantly larger than it.

Such tiny eyes were filled with immense bewilderment.

But no one was going to explain the situation to him.

Su Lin certainly had no intention of doing so.

Watching the orphan wolf retreat, Su Lin thought to himself, "Hmph, at least you know your limits."

The prey he had selected earlier was an adult female Arctic Rabbit weighing over ten pounds, which was more than enough to sate the hunger of his cousin and Wolf Sister.

Once that single rabbit was finished, the four little cubs all ended up with bellies as round as balls.

Su Lin set aside the two remaining Arctic Rabbit cubs for Wolf Mother.

....

Time passed quickly, and evening soon descended.

The Arctic nights were even more brutal than the days, marked by winds that chilled to the bone.

Wolf Dad, Wolf Mom, and several other wolves finally trudged back, exhausted from their hunt.

Wolf Mother was in a foul mood at that moment.

Today had been another day of meager rewards.

They hadn't managed to catch a single living thing, only managing to scavenge half a Seal that a Polar Bear had left behind.

The Wolf Pack currently consisted of eight adult Arctic Wolves: three males and five females.

Half a Seal was nowhere near enough to satisfy their hunger; it barely compensated for the energy they had spent searching for it.

Her own offspring would have to endure hunger tonight.

"Ao!"

Frustrated by this thought, Wolf Mother let out a bitter roar.

If things didn't change, the Wolf Pack might not survive much longer.

Migrating further south would be a better option, as that region was home to large herbivores like the Arctic reindeer.

However... traveling with young cubs was far too dangerous.

Additionally, that territory was more populated by Grizzly Bears and Polar Bears.

The Wolf Pack's current strength could handle one bear, but fighting two would be a desperate struggle.

Thus, Wolf Mother remained torn by hesitation.

Suddenly....

Wolf Mother’s nose twitched as she caught a powerful scent of blood.

It was coming directly from their mountain cave.

Only the Wolf Pack's cubs were supposed to be inside.

"Awooo! Awooo!"

Wolf Mother let out two urgent howls, causing the entire Pack to snap to attention.

Immediately, Wolf Mother, Wolf Father, and the other adults charged toward the cave as if they had lost their minds.

"Awooo!"

As the Lead Wolf, Wolf Father roared with a surge of murderous intent.

Inside the cave, the cubs—who were well-fed and resting—bolted upright in fear upon hearing that familiar, aggressive roar.

Su Lin was no exception.

Had Wolf Dad and Wolf Mom run into an enemy?

He scrambled up and sprinted toward the cave entrance.

"Awooo!"

With his high stats in Strength and Speed, Wolf Father lunged through the entrance. His white paws struck the ground so hard that shards of rock went flying.

"This...."

Su Lin froze in confusion as he looked at his enraged father, who was facing no visible threat.

What was happening?

He stood there looking dazed, while Wolf Sister and the cousin trembled with fear behind him.

Moments later, Wolf Mother and the rest of the pack burst into the den.

They scanned the area, and only when they saw the cubs were unharmed did their bristling fur begin to settle.

"Awooo!"

With a soft growl, Wolf Mother reached out and began licking Su Lin repeatedly.

The cubs were safe, which was all that mattered.

But then, where was that overwhelming smell of blood coming from?

"Awooo."

Realizing why his parents had been so furious, Su Lin gave a low howl and dragged out the two remaining Arctic Rabbits from the back of the cave.

Wolf Mother moved closer and sniffed the carcasses.

They were fresh. So the heavy scent of blood had come from these?

But how did they get here? Arctic Rabbits were notoriously difficult to hunt.

Could the cubs have actually caught them?

Wolf Mother turned a questioning gaze toward Su Lin.

"Awooo!"

Su Lin replied with a howl.

At that moment, Wolf Mother and Wolf Father did not move to eat the two rabbit cubs immediately.

On one hand, while they might satisfy Wolf Mother, sharing them among the whole pack wouldn't even be enough to fill the gaps in their teeth.

On the other hand, the eyes of every wolf were fixed on Su Lin with curiosity.

He was only a month old. How could he already be hunting Arctic Rabbits on his own?

Wasn't his growth rate unnaturally fast?

If he kept this up, wouldn't he soon be stronger than them?

The way the other wolves looked at Su Lin had clearly shifted.

"Awooo!"

Wolf Mother growled softly, being the first to look away.

He was her offspring, after all; she was simply amazed by how fast he was growing.

Beyond her surprise, she didn't overthink it.

She picked up one of the rabbit cubs; having recently given birth, she desperately needed the nourishment.

Later, after Su Lin and the other cubs indicated they were completely full, Wolf Father threw the remaining rabbit to the other she-wolves.

As for the male wolves of the Pack, they all returned to their spots in the cave and lay down to sleep.

After all, sleep was the most effective way to preserve their strength.
