Su Qinglan sees a large group of sub-beastmen seeking refuge and work. While initially excited by the prospect of recruiting them for her plans, she maintains a cautious demeanor. She learns they have been living in hiding in the forest, struggling to find enough food and fearing unknown plants. The sub-beastmen express curiosity about the cooked food sold at the city gates.

The other sub-beastmen nodded in agreement.

"That’s right. We’ve heard about it, too."

"If we could buy cooked food, we wouldn’t have to worry so much about preparing every meal."

"I’ve also heard that people in the city grow vegetables and eat them with meat. We don’t know how to do that."

One of the elderly females sighed.

"We’re so far behind. We don’t even know many of the things that other beastmen take for granted."

As they spoke, their expressions became increasingly embarrassed.

They wanted to eat better food. They wanted to grow vegetables, gather fruits without worrying about poisoning themselves, and learn how to prepare delicious meals. They wanted to give their children a better life.

But how could they do any of that when surviving from one day to the next was already so difficult?

If someone could teach them how to grow crops, they could have vegetables to eat.

If they could learn how to cook, even the small amount of meat they managed to hunt would become more delicious.

And if they could find steady work, perhaps they would no longer have to worry about whether their children would go hungry tomorrow.

Wouldn’t such a life be wonderful?

Su Qinglan listened quietly, and the excitement she had been suppressing grew stronger. These people were not only looking for food. They needed work, guidance, and a chance to learn new skills.

And she happened to have plenty of work that needed to be done!

However, she still did not make any promises. Instead, she looked at the crowd and asked, "You said that you’re willing to do any kind of work?"

"Yes!"

"We are!"

"Female master, we’ll work hard!"

"We won’t be lazy. Please give us a chance!"

The moment Su Qinglan asked, everyone hurriedly answered, afraid that she might change her mind.

Su Qinglan nodded.

"All right. If you’re willing to work, I’ll think about whether Dragon Beast City has any suitable jobs for you."

The crowd became excited.

But before they could celebrate, Su Qinglan continued, "However, I can’t promise you anything right now. I need to understand your abilities and decide what kind of work you can do. I also need to discuss how to arrange things properly."

The sub-beastmen immediately quieted down.

"So..." an elderly man asked cautiously, "Does that mean you’ll consider helping us, female master?"

"I said I’ll consider it, didn’t I?"

"Yes! Yes, you did!"

"Then please wait here for the time being. Don’t wander around or cause trouble. If I find suitable work for you, I’ll ask Rao to bring you to me."

Su Qinglan glanced at Rao’s female before adding, "You can also ask Rao to pass along any important information. But until everything is arranged, don’t enter the city without permission."

"We understand!"

"We’ll wait here!"

"We won’t cause trouble!"

The group hurriedly nodded, afraid that even one careless word might ruin their chance.

Su Qinglan looked at them for another moment before turning around.

"All right. We should go now."

Hu Yan immediately followed her, while Lin Muyu and Bai Ling exchanged glances before hurrying after them. The four of them soon walked away, leaving the group of sub-beastmen standing in the forest.

For a while, nobody spoke. Then, a young female’s eyes slowly filled with tears.

"Does this mean... the female master has rejected us?"

The elderly sub-beastman sighed. "We can only wait."

"But what if she never comes back?" another man asked anxiously. "What if she was only saying that to send us away?"

The moment those words fell, the hope in everyone’s eyes dimmed. They had already been rejected so many times. They had learned not to expect too much from anyone.

Even though Su Qinglan had not refused them directly, they could not help worrying that they would end up disappointed again.

Meanwhile, Rao’s female stood among them, her face pale.

She had been the one who told them that Su Qinglan was coming. She had also been the one who had tried to stop them from gathering here.

Now, not only had they disturbed Su Qinglan, but they had also made her situation more difficult.

What if Su Qinglan became angry with her?

What if she decided not to help her family anymore?

Thinking about that possibility, the female’s eyes immediately reddened. She hurriedly looked at Rao, who had just come out of the cave with another bundle of belongings.

"Rao..."

Rao turned toward her. "What’s wrong?"

She bit her lip, tears gathering in her eyes.

"Did I make a mistake? I told them that Sister Qinglan was coming, and they insisted on waiting here. I tried to make them leave, but they wouldn’t listen."

Her voice trembled.

"Now they’ve disturbed Sister Qinglan. What if she becomes angry with me? What if she changes her mind about giving us a house?"

Rao stared at her for a moment before gently patting her head.

"Don’t worry."

"But..."

"Sister Qinglan isn’t like that."

The female looked at him anxiously.

Rao continued, "Didn’t you hear what she said? She told them to wait because she wanted to consider what work they could do. If she didn’t want to help them at all, she could have simply refused them."

"But she left..."

"Of course she left. Does she have to stand here all day and talk to them?"

The female was speechless.

Rao chuckled softly and patted her head again.

"Don’t overthink it. Sister Qinglan is different from the other beastmen. If she says she’ll consider something, she’ll give it proper thought. And if she says she’ll arrange a house for us, she won’t take it back just because a few more people showed up."

He glanced toward the path Su Qinglan had taken. "Besides, she has never treated us badly. We should trust her."

The female wiped her tears and nodded slowly.

"Then... our house is still there, right?"

"Of course!"

Rao answered firmly, although he also knew they would have to wait until Su Qinglan made the arrangements.

"Now, hurry up and finish packing. We still need to move into the city."

The female finally smiled a little.

"All right."

As the two returned to the cave, the large group of sub-beastmen remained where they were, watching the direction in which Su Qinglan had disappeared.

They did not know whether she would return. They did not know whether their lives would change. But they had been given a reason to hope.
