CLEAVER OF SIN Chapter 1171: Come Back Alive
Previously on CLEAVER OF SIN...
As Asher turned and walked away, before he could activate the Position Marker on the dagger, the location where he had just fought the Monkey and the Emovira instantly cracked like glass as fissures began to spread around, seeming etched into reality itself.
Asher’s footsteps came to a halt as, the next moment, the entire battlefield shattered instantly into shards, then vanished in its entirety. Asher found himself within the three-kilometer-wide space where he had first met the Emovira and Monkey.
’It seems that I wasn’t teleported to another location, but instead another separate Layer Of Space was overlapped upon the First Layer Of Space. It’s like how Cindralis’ Separate Dimension operates.’
Asher thought to himself as he arched an eyebrow at the revelation. Although he only knew of Azaron and Cindralis possessing such control over space, that didn’t mean that one or two others who possessed that same level of control didn’t exist.
But if these people had someone who could overlap space, why didn’t they just create a Separate Dimension like Cindralis did instead of going underground?
As the question echoed in his mind, he shook his head, deciding not to think too much about it. The artifact used by the Monkey to overlap space might just be a randomly acquired artifact; it didn’t prove that they had someone of such capabilities within their ranks.
Tracking the Mark on the dagger, he made his way back towards the Cadets and Corporal Sonya. Within a couple of short minutes, he appeared in front of them as he walked towards them.
Seeing Asher, the four Cadets couldn’t help but heave a sigh of relief. Even Corporal Sonya, who had always been calm, also couldn’t help but exhale with a deep sigh. Although Asher was a Cadet and treated as such, at the end of the day, he was a Wargrave, and a family member of his was the Commander of the Frontier.
If he died or entered something like a coma or received some sort of injury that couldn’t be healed, then the five of them were toast. Even if it might not be their fault, there was no saying that the Wargrave wouldn’t kill them and their families just to ease their anger.
But, aside from that, seeing Asher walk out barely a few minutes after confronting those two left the five of them a bit overwhelmed. He didn’t have a single injury on his body. Even if he was injured and could heal himself, his clothes should have been torn and ripped apart.
They didn’t doubt he had faced a Rank 8 Emovira and a Myth-Class Monster; they had felt their presence when Asher had first confronted them. They could only admire the power he possessed at the mere age of nineteen and do nothing else.
As Asher came to a halt, Corporal Sonya asked:
"Did you encounter any trouble, Cadet Asher? Any injuries or setbacks that we should be made aware of?"
Her tone was flat, but filled with a tinge of concern, her black eyes meeting Asher’s purple ones.
Asher shook his head as he replied to the Corporal in a respectful tone.
"No, Corporal Sonya. I’m perfectly fine, and I’ve handled both enemies."
He stated without going into details of how he defeated his opponents.
Corporal Sonya nodded her head as she received confirmation. Without missing a beat, she asked the most important question.
"Did you find out any important information from the two? We need something we can report back to the Higher Authorities."
Her tone was brisk as a light frown appeared on her face for a moment as she asked.
She needed the information; it was one of the ways to replace their Life-Saving Orb and also gain contribution. Not that she needed the Life-Saving Orbs, as she had over seven, but such information could add to their contribution, hence aiding promotion to the next Frontier Rank.
Asher didn’t hide anything he knew, as there was simply no reason to do so.
"I only found out they were paid to stay here about a month and a half ago. As for how long they were paid to stay, I don’t know, as they didn’t say."
He explained calmly as he repeated what the Monkey had told him earlier.
At Asher’s words about the Emovira and Monkey being paid, Corporal Sonya couldn’t help but frown. The fact that those two were paid meant that nothing good was happening below them, and anyone who paid them was certainly higher in Life Rank and power ranking. If they weren’t, these two would just kill them and take whatever the other party was supposed to pay with.
As for what the Monkey and Emovira had been paid with, she didn’t ask, as she didn’t exactly care. Knowing such things wouldn’t help them in any way.
As she was lost in her thoughts, she passed the dagger Asher had given her back to him. After a moment of silence, she began to speak once more.
"We will retreat from here and instantly report our findings. We will be using our Life-Saving Orb, as if we go back the way we came, we will be killed on the way back."
She ordered as she made her decision as a Corporal.
While the Tenth Sun might be able to handle the Monkey, there was nothing to prove that he might be able to handle anything higher. Although she wanted to say behind and send the Tenth Sun down the second underground space so they could have more information and increase their contributions, in the end, she knew when to take risks and when not to.
She wasn’t a greedy person and always made rational decisions at all times.
At her words, Cadet James, Cadet Iris, Cadet Jasmine, and Cadet Ken heaved a sigh of relief as they could finally get to leave this place.
But Asher felt like staying; he wanted to see what was underground. Before he could speak and give his piece, Corporal Sonya turned towards him as she spoke.
"Cadet Asher, you will be staying here."
Her tone was calm as she instructed, knowing that Asher never wanted to leave with them. So instead of the Tenth Sun going rogue in his first deployment and risking insubordination, she might as well just order him to. She could only bank on the Life-Saving Orb and the dagger’s teleportation ability he had explained to her earlier.
"There is an extremely high chance that those beneath us haven’t found out about us, and with our departure, they might just move to another location or escape at the fear that the Vice Commanders and Commanders might make their way here."
She paused for a moment as she explained to make sure the Tenth Sun understood every word that left her lips.
"Your job is simple; gain as much information as possible, eliminate as much as possible, hold them back as much as you can, and finally... come back alive."
She stated in finality as she stared at him. As for how many of her orders the Tenth Sun could pull off, she didn’t particularly care. She was only giving him a reason to go there, also ordering him to come back alive, that was all.
Besides, if they stayed, they would only get in his way. It was best they left while they still could.
