Chronicles of Forgotten Extra Chapter 365: The Weight Behind the Name, Lumyn.
Previously on Chronicles of Forgotten Extra...
Flying desperately across the sky was a certain white dragon, with an entire pod of gigantic leviathan whales chasing after her.
Barely hanging onto the tip of her tail was a black-haired, golden-eyed boy, making it look as though the dragon was using him as bait to fish for leviathans.
And judging by the way those damned creatures kept leaping out of the sea to swallow the poor boy whole...
They were absolutely falling for it.
Never mind the fact that only a few minutes ago, Alden had thrown himself into the heart of the Dragon Empire to save this utterly ungrateful dragon.
"At least fly a little higher, you damned lizard!"
He screamed at Aemirya just as another leviathan lunged toward him. Instead of flying higher... That damned woman dipped even lower.
Only at the very last instant did she shoot back upward, just before the creature’s enormous jaws could swallow Alden whole.
"You know," She said calmly, "you should really be careful with your words, especially when you are hanging onto me for your survival."
"Is this how you treat your savior, you damned princess?"
Alden snapped.
"You should count yourself fortunate that I’m even carrying you." Her voice remained perfectly composed. "You cannot begin to imagine the horrors a Voidmaw can inflict, even upon an Ascendant."
A faint smile tugged at the corner of her lips.
"So, in a way... I am saving you as well."
"Don’t forget, you were the one who threw me here in the first place." He argued as Aemirya merely laughed awkwardly.
"That is but a minor detail." She waved it off without the slightest shame. "And besides, these Voidmaws wouldn’t have attacked us if you hadn’t been arrogant enough to make those strange gestures at them. They are actually quite peaceful... unless provoked."
This time, it was Alden’s turn to laugh awkwardly.
"Minor details. Haha."
In truth...
He had simply remembered something he had learned long ago.
Seeing those enormous whale-like creatures, he recalled that such beings were supposedly intelligent enough to understand sign language.
So he had tried using a few signs he knew.
... How was he supposed to know those particular signs were offensive enough to make an entire pod chase him across hundreds of kilometers?
"In any case, have you figured out where we are yet? Or at least where you’re even heading?" Alden changed the subject as Aemirya finally climbed high enough above the clouds to leave the relentless Voidmaws behind.
After a brief moment of thought, she answered.
"Although I have never left Dragothoria myself, from everything I have read... and judging by the migratory route of the Voidmaws at this time of year..."
She glanced toward the horizon.
"We should be somewhere east of the Human Kingdom of Rosarco."
Alden frowned.
He barely had to wonder as Aemirya started explaining.
"That kingdom is a relatively small nation located in the northern reaches of the Human Continent." Aemirya continued calmly. "They are said to be rather barbaric, constantly waging war against the beasts of the north in their pursuit of supremacy."
She paused for a moment before adding,
"I do not know much beyond that. And honestly, even the information I have could already be outdated. Dragons rarely concern themselves with the affairs of humans and they only bother updating their historical records every few hundred years."
Alden nodded absentmindedly as he finally managed to climb onto her back, the wind rustling past his medium legnth hair.
"We will have to do something about your appearance and your name once we get there. I assume a dragon wandering through the streets isn’t exactly normal, right? And using your real name would only make it easier for those elders to track us down."
"Hmm, that is true." She nodded slightly. "But I can alter my appearance to hide my horns. As for my name..."
She fell silent, thinking for a moment before turning her head toward him mid-flight.
"What do you suggest?"
Alden thought for a moment before finally opening his mouth.
"How about an entitled, overgrown lizard-brained prince—?"
Before he could finish his sentence, Aemirya suddenly rolled her body mid-flight. Gravity immediately claimed Alden.
"WAIT—!"
He plummeted straight toward the open mouths of the Voidmaws still cruising beneath the clouds. Just before he could become their lunch, Aemirya dived after him, caught him neatly on her back and climbed back into the sky as though nothing had happened.
"What were you saying again?" She asked innocently. "The wind was rather loud. I couldn’t quite hear you."
"Tsk."
Alden clicked his tongue but decided not to argue about the dragon princess’s blatant abuse of authority.
For now. Instead, he began thinking seriously about a new name for her. Though, when had he ever been good at naming things?
So he simply looked around.
Clouds, the endless sea and then... The bright, annoyingly radiant sunlight which seemed almost as irritating and rude as the dragon princess beneath him.
A smile spread across his face as a name appeared in his mind.
"Lumyn. How about Lumyn?"
"Hmm. Lumyn..."
She quietly repeated the name to herself as a small smile appeared on her face.
"That sounds nice." She nodded to herself. "So, Lumyn it is. I will be Lumyn from now on."
She seemed surprisingly happy over something as simple as a fake name.
Alden chose not to comment on it. Instead, he simply lay back and watched the setting sun as the gentle sea breeze drifted past them.
He would finally set foot upon the Human Continent once again, where he hoped to find at least some clue to the whereabouts of his missing fragment.
After all...
He was certain that, no matter what kind of person his mother was, she wouldn’t have left him with absolutely no clue...
Or so he hoped.
