Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife Chapter 1611 - 1612: Deciding

Amidst the biting winter chill, the entire family convened around the table, surrounding a steaming hot pot. Strong liquor flowed, and a palpable warmth filled the air.
As Qi Fenglian's chosen partner, and particularly after her previous painful marital experience, there was a natural inclination towards caution with Chu Changxing. The fear of repeating past mistakes, of leaping from one disaster into an even deeper abyss, was ever-present.
To deliver a stern lecture to Chu Changxing, Qi Taiguo, with his imposing presence, was the perfect man. His severe and earnest expression nearly compelled Chu Changxing to his knees, pledging unwavering devotion.
Observing this, Mother Qi worried her son might frighten the prospective son-in-law away. If that happened, Qi Fenglian might become even more reluctant to find another partner, potentially facing a solitary future. The thought sent a shiver down her spine. She quickly intervened, smoothing things over, and drew Cheng Su into the room for a private conversation.
"Taiguo seems fiercer than before, even more domineering. What's going on? You're his wife; you should persuade him more often. Especially towards this potential suitor, he can't be so aggressive," she confided.
Cheng Su offered a smiling agreement.
With both food and drinks plentiful, the family relished the occasion. Chu Changxing, his face flushed from the alcohol, departed with Qi Fenglian, having just managed to pass muster.
Following this, they saw Father Qi and the others settled into the guesthouse, preparing to travel to Guangcheng together the following day. After ensuring everything was in order, Cheng Su sent Xiao Qi to stay with Mother Cheng for the night. The couple then retired to their room to talk.
"What are your thoughts on this Chu Changxing?" Cheng Su inquired.
"He's not particularly outstanding, nor does he possess grand ambitions. However, he seems capable of settling down and living a stable life," Qi Taiguo responded with fairness.
This assessment perfectly aligned with Cheng Su's own perspective.
Chu Changxing lacked any truly remarkable qualities. The business strategies Cheng Su had discussed with him were met with little notable reaction. He simply operated a shop to earn a living, showing no desire for large-scale expansion. Content with having enough to eat and drink, he seemed satisfied with a simple existence.
Yet, it was precisely for this reason that Cheng Su felt he and Qi Fenglian were quite suited. Qi Fenglian herself wasn't exceptionally outstanding. If Chu Changxing were exceptionally capable, could she truly keep pace?
For a marriage to endure, the ideal scenario is often a well-matched couple. When the man is excessively strong and the woman too weak, or vice versa, the distance between them inevitably grows significantly.
Currently, Qi Fenglian and Chu Changxing appeared quite compatible. He had his own means of support, and his son had grown up. Qi Fenglian was not someone who indulged in luxury. A simple hardware store would provide a stable living, and in the future, if she wished to continue working, she could. Alternatively, they could manage the hardware store together, which wouldn't be a bad arrangement.
Cheng Su then remarked, "Looking at it this way, those two will settle down quickly." After all, they were no longer young.
Qi Taiguo, drowsy from the alcohol, added, "It's good for them to settle down. Big sister has been divorced for two years, and seeing her struggle to care for two children alone has been tough. Finding another partner is a positive development. Now, with this Chu Changxing, we don't expect him to be wealthy; as long as they can live peacefully and manage a shop, it shouldn't be too difficult."
Cheng Su offered a soft hum in response.
"The most important thing is that she is willing. Remember back then, big sister looked so dispirited; I truly thought she would never remarry!"
Qi Taiguo partially opened his eyes and stated, "Circumstances change, and people's perspectives naturally evolve along with them." He embraced her again and said, "Let's sleep now. We have to travel to Guangcheng tomorrow, and it's a long journey. Don't end up being too exhausted."
Cheng Su agreed, reached for the lamp cord, and the couple held each other as they drifted off to sleep.
