Chu Changxing, dressed as a groom, nervously meets Qi Fenglian's imposing military officer brother, Qi Taiguo. Despite initial apprehension, Qi Taiguo accepts Chu Changxing after seeing his sincerity. The family, including Father and Mother Qi, meets Chu Changxing and seems pleased with him. Xiao Yun, however, expresses melancholic feelings about potentially having a stepfather.

Numerous children resist their parents forming new families, believing only their biological parents are ideal and harboring resentment towards stepparents.

At fourteen, soon to be fifteen, Xiao Yun, a middle schooler, carries the weight of her parents' divorce from years prior. This experience has significantly shaped her, granting her a maturity far beyond her peers.

Responding to Cheng Su’s words, she stated, "Whether I agree is secondary; my mother's agreement is what truly matters."

"Oh?" Cheng Su inquired.

"My father already has a son and remarried some time ago. My mother has dedicated years to caring for Xiao Bao and me, foregoing remarriage out of concern we'd be disadvantaged, a sentiment I understand. Initially, I found this arrangement quite acceptable, even wishing she'd never remarry so Xiao Bao and I could care for her in her twilight years. However, as I've grown, I've seen her sitting alone at night, with no one to confide in, and I realize she must be quite lonely. I pondered what her life would be like when Xiao Bao and I eventually mature, find our own partners, and establish our own families. It occurred to me that it would be beneficial for her to find companionship. Now that this attentive uncle has appeared, so be it, let her marry. As the saying goes, if the sky intends to rain or a woman desires to marry, who can possibly prevent it?" Xiao Yun articulated with an air of adult-like sagacity.

Cheng Su let out a soft chuckle, remarking, "You're familiar with this saying?"

"I do engage in reading," Xiao Yun replied. "I'm genuinely alright with the situation; after all, I'm practically an adult. Should I find myself unable to get along with a stepfather, the worst-case scenario would be me attending boarding school. My primary concern is Xiao Bao's potential unhappiness. He is still quite young, and he will be living with them for a considerable duration!"

Cheng Su laughed, asking, "So, what's your overall assessment? Is Uncle Chu treating you well?"

"He's acceptable!" Xiao Yun responded with a shrug. "However, they aren't married yet, are they? True character is revealed over time. Before marriage, everything appears wonderful because the commitment isn't yet sealed. But after marriage, over an extended period, one truly ascertains whether the relationship is good or not."

Cheng Su clicked her tongue, pondering the source of the child's remarkable composure and wisdom.

"As long as he is good to my mother, that is all that truly matters. For us children, as long as things appear smooth on the surface, that suffices. After all, we are not his biological children; why should he treat us as such?" Xiao Yun added, "Provided he cherishes my mother throughout her life, Xiao Bao and I will undoubtedly hold him in high regard in the future."

Cheng Su smiled, inquiring, "Since when did your heart grow so accommodating? What about your father's side of the family?"

Xiao Yun emitted a sneer, stating, "I cannot rely on my father's side. His current partner is exceptionally domineering. My grandmother is entirely under her thumb, too afraid to voice any objections. And my half-brother, if I so much as interact with him, she erupts as if I intend to cause him harm – it's truly preposterous. She dislikes my presence, and I harbor no affection for her either. Were it not for pity for my father, I would refrain from visiting them."

Cheng Su raised an eyebrow slightly, advising, "Parents make their own choices; harboring grudges is unwise, for they remain your parents."

Xiao Yun nodded, emitting a sigh, "Given the circumstances, it's best they lead their own lives peacefully."

Despite the young girl's outward strength, Cheng Su perceived an underlying current of loneliness in her words. She gently patted Xiao Yun's shoulder and said, "Let's cease this discussion. Children ought not to be burdened with adult affairs. Concentrate on your studies. Now, go assist me in setting the table so we may dine!"

Xiao Yun, with a smile, readily agreed and took a cloth to wipe down the table.

Cheng Su shook her head, uncertain whether to express sorrow or admiration for the girl's profound maturity. Reality had evidently compelled her to mature prematurely. If the family had remained intact and harmonious, why would a child possess such deep insights at such a tender age, seemingly having seen through the complexities of life?
