Chiang Qing suppressed her fury after leaving the prison gate and headed to the women’s prison to visit her mother, Lu Shufen. Shocked by Lu Shufen's haggard appearance, Chiang Qing learned her father had lied about sending her to the United States, instead committing her to a mental hospital. She revealed Gao Hongbo secured her release, her face twisting with hatred at his name. Lu Shufen, noticing her daughter's lifeless expression, asked if he had done something to her.

Confronted by Lu Shufen's probing questions, Chiang Qing offered no words, yet her cold silence and the tears trickling down spoke volumes as a wordless confession.

At that sight, Lu Shufen instantly comprehended; her emotional barriers crumbled, sending her into heartbroken sobs slumped over the table.

What grave sin had befallen her? Her cherished daughter entangled with a geezer who could pass for her grandfather—the little one she'd nurtured with endless love now toyed with by another.

It pierced her heart like a sharp blade!

Lu Shufen's cries left Chiang Qing utterly unmoved. She simply brushed away a tear from her eye and said evenly, "Stop crying, I still have questions for you!"

Raising her head, Lu Shufen yearned to stroke her daughter's cheek but was blocked by the prison guard, forcing her to murmur, "Qingqing, Qingqing, my dear, you’ve suffered."

The family lay in ruins, members jailed, yet why should Qingqing, guilty of nothing, endure such agony!

A sudden pang of remorse struck Lu Shufen, its source unclear, no clear error identified—she simply regretted deeply.

"Stop crying!" Chiang Qing's patience snapped amid her growing frustration, declaring, "I don’t have much time left!"

Those words left Lu Shufen with little option but to dab at her tears once more.

"I’m asking you, do you know exactly where Grandpa’s old house is?" Chiang Qing pressed.

Lu Shufen faltered, perplexed, "What old house?"

"The old house Grandpa had before he made his fortune." Chiang Qing urged, "Where is it?"

Lu Shufen mulled it over briefly, "Isn’t it over in Jiangnan?"

That old fellow kicked off as a hawker, snagging a humble abode in Jiangnan, but success swelled the business, prompting a move—and that dwelling's probably dust by now!

"Are you sure it’s still there?" Chiang Qing’s eyes gleamed brightly, her voice urgent, "Do you know the address?"

"I haven’t been back in years, I don’t know if it has collapsed, it’s a small place, just over there..." Lu Shufen reflected momentarily before inquiring, "Why are you asking about this? I didn’t live there after growing up."

"There’s some business." Chiang Qing reined in her thrill, paused thoughtfully, then whispered, "Have you ever heard of Shen Rong?"

Confusion clouded Lu Shufen as she shook her head, "I don’t know. Qingqing, why are you asking these things? What are you planning to do?"

A wave of annoyance swept through Chiang Qing, prompting her to snap, "If you don’t know, then forget it, I’m leaving!"

"Leaving, just like that?" Panic seized Lu Shufen, "You’ve just arrived, and Mom hasn’t seen you in so long!"

"What’s there to see, now you’ve seen it? Back then, when Jiang Conghe said he wanted to send me to the United States, you agreed, and now, today, it’s all because you decided by yourselves!" Chiang Qing fired back uncontrollably.

Lu Shufen's complexion drained of color.

"I’m leaving!" With icy detachment, Chiang Qing spun around.

"Qingqing, are you really going back to that old bastard?" Lu Shufen's voice quavered.

"Where else could I go?" Chiang Qing let out a hollow, mocking chuckle.

"Go find Xiao Tian, you siblings, in the United States, wait three years, Mom will be out, we’ll all go to the United States and start a new life!" Lu Shufen blurted out hastily.

Chiang Qing tilted her head faintly, retorting, "If he cared about me as his sister, he would have already come to find me, why would I need to find him, and besides, where would I find him? What use is it to find him?"

Hunting down anyone proved futile—no soul could aid her, none could fuel her quest for vengeance. A fresh start? Ha!

Fresh beginnings held no appeal for her; she craved hauling them all into infernal depths, dooming everyone to shared torment in hell!

"Qingqing, don’t go!" Lu Shufen gazed in anguish as her daughter departed, a void gnawing at her chest, struck by the chilling truth that this goodbye might be eternal.
